Average dinner with average service. The wait staff was unintentionally hilarious — our waiter bought us 3 waters yet there were 2 of us… i ordered a biscuit with my meal and it never showed up… and when the waiter asked us «how everything was?» I replied«biscuit?» He than said«great, glad everything is good… let me know if you need anything else» haha I couldn’t help but laugh at that! So i had to flag down another member of the wait staff to get that clarified I still hadn’t received my biscuit and i was done with my omelet… Will go back here for for a good laugh! Prob not the food.

Bummed about this place. I heard about Gaffey St. Diner from the Food Network on the Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The food looked delicious. When ordering one of the items that is referenced from the show(and also on Unilocal), the waitress had no clue what I was talking about. It was just interesting, since the item was one of their«signature» items from the show. She had to go ask the back, and she came back and said«we don’t have that right now». Ok then. so I ask about waffle with berries, which is on the menu. She said«Let me ask if we still have that». She goes back, asks, returns and says«we are out of berries». It’s fine if you’re out of these items, but it’s annoying when the wait staff seems to be clueless of what is offered or what is available. I ended up ordering the country breakfast, which is mediocre at best. Never got any refills on coffee or water. Had to flag the wait staff down to pay our bill, when they were just sitting around and we were one of few in the restaurant.

My boyfriend and I decided to eat here yesterday. This was my second time. The very first I ordered out the country breakfast and it was delicious. I dnt know if they changed cooks or what but the food was nothing to brag about. The Garvey wasn’t the same as before it just didn’t do it for us. The staff is excellent, very sweet and attentive. Coffee was decent as well

+2 ½ Stars +A friend insisted on coming here, despite all the recent negative reviews. +Came in around Lunch time. Only one other person was there. +Dude that sat us swatted at a fly with the menu before he sat us and handed it to us. +Other than that, the staff was nice. Sort a pet peeve of mine when it’s a family run place and they are all sitting at booth hanging around. +Food was a bit pricey. +I had a Mushroom Omelette. It was pretty good. Lots of mushrooms in it. Nothing real special. +Not the most convenient location.

Update: Dropped down to 3 stars after my last visit. Service wasnt that great this time around and the syrup on the tables tasted weird. Last time I go. They need new management. Really good breakfast food. This place gets packed on weekends but it’s worth it. Omelets and pancakes are delicious. Service is always prompt and it’s just a food local spot for breakfast. Recommend for sure.

Me and my wife use to come here when the original owners were here. Today is Dec of 2015 and we were shocked at how poor the quality was. We were so sad at the lack of professionalism. My wifes potatoes were cold and the cook and waitress brought me burnt pancakes. They brought my grandaughter sausage instead of bacon. I hope they up thier game and not rely on the Diners, Drive ins and Dives that gave the actual review based upon the integrity of the original owners. We wont be back. We are so sad. Guy Fieri should come back and take his face down from the sign in front. We miss the Original Gaffey Street Diner!

Been waiting at least 3 years to eat at this place. My egg wasn’t cool all the way, so I ask the server to take it to the cook not chef, to properly cook the egg, allot can be expected if the cook doesn’t know to cook an egg, let’s move on, the eggs comes back but just burn from the bottom leaving the top raw. Fuck it. lets move on. Start eating, disappoint right away. The potatoes bland, gravy bland. No Bueno. The places looks like an office instead of restaurant. The new waiter was friendly but I guess was the only one, regardless. There is not silverware in the table, I wait for 5 minutes. At this moment is has been 10 minutes food is kind of cold by now. :(. I don’t think I’ll be coming back but hey guys don’t be sad or mad about this review just improve yourself. Good luck and fuck guy that guy sucks! Pow!

Came here for breakfast the the food was amazing. Friendly staff and although there was quite a wait time, the wait was definitely worth it!

This restaurant was empty at noon on a Sunday. Need I say more? Food was bland and overpriced. Our lunch’s tab came out to be $ 50, without ordering any drinks, for a party of four.

That’s a really bold statement for them to say«world famous gaffey st. diner.» It’s super over priced and the food is horrible. The only thing i recommend eating is the biscuits and gravy.

Just left this place. It is extremely casual and family friendly. Parking is located immediately before the restaurant and not the best. The slots are straight and there is only one entrance/exit so it is dangerous. I would rather park around the corner on the street and walk in. Food:We both ordered pancakes w a side of bacon. While the bacon was not the best it wasn’t the worst. I did not have coffee but my mom did and said it was great. Both sets of pancakes were good. Service was adequate everyone was nice but twice we had to go in search of cream for the one cup of coffee as they did not provide it for our table with either filling which is highly annoying. Presentation of the food was nothing special but being a diner I did not have high expectations. Since the food was ok we will be back.

My first time here and my first time trying eggs Benedict. I’ve heard eggs Benedict are delicious and I love a runny poached egg. The waitress tells me they’re out of ham and to see if I want to substitute it with something else. So since I’ve never tried it before, I have no idea what’s good with it or whatnot. So she gave me bacon on the side. Basically I got a poached egg on top of a biscuit and waaaaay overloaded of hollandaise. Disgusting. My first impression of eggs Benedict was not a good one. I do not recommend it here.

Sooooooo sad, you can tell the new owner has his family operating the business, and its not working. I wanted to run after walking in seeing that something had changed. The worn out booths, my granddaughter would not even sit on, the old lemon I had to ask for, yuk ! The food was not the same, the waitress, and the young son sitting back in the corner.. . Sad :/

I eat here at least once a week and I’ve never had anything disappointing. The omelets are huge, the hash browns are crispy on the outside and tender in the middle, perfect. I had the pozoli(some Latin soup I never heard of) was the BOMB… tender pork in a chili base broth, radish and shredded cabbage… If you haven’t been here, go… They were on TV ’ S Diners and Dives so that says it all…

So my GF took me to this diner around lunchtime telling me the food was pretty good. She ordered spanish rice with scrambled eggs and I ordered the country fried steak. Both plates were so bad that we left whole portions of food on the plate when we left. The spanish rice tasted like it was stale and was pretty hard, so we took a few bites and left it. The country fried steak was like paper fried steak because the patty was crunchy and as thin as drawing paper. The mashed potatoes were KFC«made from powder quality.» I rarely complain, often choosing to send my GF text messages while we eat rather than complaining to the waiter or owner, but in this case we actually complained and just got a «Sorry.» Breakfast items are better, thus 3 stars. Please avoid the spanish rice and country fried steak though!

After visiting the USS Iowa my friend suggested this place for lunch. Wound up having breakfast for lunch at 1:30. Service was quick and friendly. Ordered the special. Corned beef hash & eggs with biscuits & gravy. I’m not a big girl and the portions were enough for 2 of me. Very tasty corned beef hash and buttermilk biscuit w/gravy. Eggs are just eggs. Took home half the hash & biscuits and ate the next morning. My friend had the chili verde & eggs and had no complaints. The interior is clean but nothing special. They have a number of flat screens with various games on.

I dislike kicking a man while he is down, but Gaffey St. Diner is begging for a few more blows. This is my second time there, shame on me, them and Guy Fierri. You walk in and the place looks like heck. White tile floors, white booths and a strange two room layout is a poor first impression. We were seated in time by a friendly and polite bus boy. Breakfasts at the table over looked big and appetizing. We got water immediately but the server took way to long to take our order. Asked for side of biscuits and gravy to come out first. I guess she thought carry it first because the rest of it came out with one walk to the line. The chicken fried steak was neither steak nor chicken fried. It’s fried on the flat top. It was some kind of meat but not cube steak, perhaps left over carne asada. My first bite was fat another dry like jerky. My daughter at 11 is savvy enough to agree. The home fries were burnt, I asked for well done so maybe that one is on me. The eggs were cooked over medium properly. The waitress, new apparently never came back to check on us and forgot two orders of toast. I asked the hostess about it and she wanted to retake the order. Just get my New server please. «Oh sorry.» then after a while she comes back with almost toast because the toaster is on the blink. No working toaster in a diner??? So we sit around yapping about the disaster, consider making a dash but just paid the $ 52 no drinks! The hostess was standing up at the door shoveling food in her mouth like the famished. Tacky. My wife had a chorizo Omelette which tasted fine. Her home fries, not well done looked boiled. GSD, needs an intentionally set fire to collect insurance then retire.

Located right off the freeway, this diner is great when you want something quick and easy. They’ve got your typical diner options(eggs, breakfast burrito, sandwiches, etc). Portions are fairly big and prices are fair($ 8 — $ 11) and they’ve got a board of daily specials you can check out as well. Overall, the place was cool, but nothing to go out of your way for.

I like coffee. I like good coffee. Coffee that doesn’t taste like cardboard or from a box and coffee that doesn’t taste like dishwater. When a restaurant’s coffee tastes like it was an afterthought, something that isn’t worth spending a few extra dollars or tastes like it’s «good-enough-to-get-by», I tend to rate the restaurant lower. This is that restaurant. The food is decent. Huge portions, large enough to share. Fresh ingredients. The menu is a predictable diner menu. The food here is «safe». My belly is full from a short stack and bacon, typical breakfast food — I’m not a huge fan of breakfast. It was good, but not perfect. He however, said the biscuits and gravy were the best he’s had in years. Light, fluffy and airy biscuits — not the heavy brick type biscuit that restaurants serve(you know the kind that are heavy enough to settle in your stomach like a lead brick)? These were in fact perfect and served with a delightfully good gravy, nicely spiced and spotted with chunks of sausage. Yes these were quite good and I don’t even like biscuits and gravy. He had the John Wayne. Way too much for him to finish, but he made a dent in the potatoes and eggs and that’s good enough for him. It was the biscuits and gravy that satisfied his hunger. The coffee was bad. I have nothing more to say about it other than I wish restaurants would consider better coffee vendors or at the very least a better brand. Even S-Bucks(of which I’m not a huge fan of burnt beans) would be better than the tasteless brown stuff served here. Service was swift, friendly and attentive. Location is good — easy to find and parking was available(street or the small lot.) You won’t be overwhelmed by the décor or look of the place, but you’ll like the food good enough.

With a friend visiting from Phoenix in tow, we headed over to San Pedro to drop off some«not so nice chemicals» at the at the haz-mat drop off center and I figured this was a great excuse to stop here for breakfast. I remember a few locals mentioning this place, but I also found it on a list of spots Guy Fieri visited with his Diners, Drive-in’s & Dives show. Turns out this was in the first group of places they visited when the show first started 9 or so years ago.
SERVICE: The hostess was very friendly, happy, bubbly and was always smiling, plus she was constantly buzzing around doing something. I loved her energy! After being seated our server came by to take our orders. After the food came out, our server came back once to drop off the bill and that was it. More water would have been nice, but it wasn’t meant to be. DECOR: Plain(blank) walls, poor layout, «low rent» furnishings, boring. FOOD: Both my buddy and I looked over the menu, but then decide to go with the«Homemade corned beef hash & eggs»($ 9.25) from the«specials» board, because it sounded really good. Once our meals arrived, we dug in. As I was eating my thoughts went from enthusiasm to disappointment. This corned beef hash was more like potato hash, as 90% of it was large chunks of overcooked potato. What little corned beef there was remaining tasted like it came out of a can. This«special» — wasn’t. OVERALL: Unfortunately, for both food and décor, just 2 stars, very«meh». Only because of the super bubbly hostess, I’ll make it 3 stars. I’m sure the locals love the Gaffey Street Diner, but this«Diner» is a «Dive» that I see no reason to go back to.
