My family and I eat breakfast here every weekend. Enough said! Needless to say the food is great. The employees are very friendly and easy to get along with. Food is delicious every time, and well priced. My favorite dish is the Spinach and Mushroom omelet from the breakfast menu! Definitely a nice place for breakfast.

They should rename this place GROSS. From the stinky breathed waitress with the disgusting attitude and mannerisms, to the thick layers of dust/dirt in the windows, right on down to the food. Everything was just GROSS. I just moved into the area and this was my FIRST time visiting this restaurant. When I walked in a mexican woman greeted us from her position at the register. I told her I would be back in a minute as I had to wash my hands and that of my baby. When we exited the restroom, I stood for a minute while she bussed tables and cashed out a «to go» order. She then directed us to sit wherever we wanted. I chose a booth. She gave us our menus and asked what we’d like to drink. That’s when I asked her if she wore gloves. IMMEDIATELY she got offended by the question and went to her manager(instead of simply saying«no, but I can wash my hands»). The manager came over and I explained to her that I’d just watched this woman buss tables, handle cash, take orders and never once wash her hands. The manager said she would handle my order and she washed HER hands before serving us. I ordered a waffle, sausage and hash browns. I ordered the baby pancakes, hash browns and sausage with two orange juices. The baby ate some of her pancakes and where she would normally eat ALL of her hash browns, she only ate half. I couldn’t eat more than three bites of the waffle and one sausage. The hash browns were horrible and GROSS. I can’t remember when I’ve had food THISBAD. The manager didn’t charge me for my meal, but she did charge me for the baby’s meal as well as the two orange juices that we barely drank. I will not visit this place again. I’d rather sprinkle some salt on a piece of cardboard than eat what comes out of their kitchen. And that nasty, filth of a waitress should’ve been FIRED. How the hell do you get offended by someone asking you to be HYGIENIC?

I just paid almost $ 7 dollars for a hot chocolate, and bagel with cream cheese. Won’t be doing that again.

A person took me to a Grinder Restaurant in Los Angels 18 years ago. It has been 18 years so I thought I might try Grinder another time to see. I was in San Pedro so I decided to give this place a try. I order the Liver & Onion as liver is suppose to be good for your health. When the order came, there was not that much on the plate as they were being stingy with the food. Just the standard Salad and Mash potato with the Liver & Union. And the food was not sizzling hot. It was adequately hot outside but lukewarm inside. Within a couple of minute, it was completely lukewarm then cold. At least Norm’s Restaurant in the City of Orange Liver & Union plate was plentiful but the food was not sizzling hot, but just lukewarm. They only miss 1 out of 2 and I did not return back to Norm’s in Orange when I was in Orange a few months later, after my 1st time there. While eating the food, I said to the waitress that I order the Liver & Onion due to the health benefit of eating liver. The waitress tells me that liver has lots of Cholesterol, implying the liver is bad for my heart. Wow, is she trying to drive me away from Grinder. She did not need to do that as I was not planning on coming back again, if not for at least another 18 years, since they were stingy with the food and it was not sizzling hot but just lukewarm. It is hard for me to find sizzling hot food these day, but now I can’t even find one that do not have a waitress that try to drive customer away from the restaurant. Interesting place but it will be another 18 years before I try going to any Grinder again.

«The Service Was Great — Food Was Average« Today I visited the Grinder Restaurant in San Pedro, CA. and had an OK experience. My server Jen was very nice and helpful as she came by my table with a big smile on her face, and did everything she could to please me. I ordered a very simple meal which consisted of 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, hashbrowns, and 2 pieces of toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly«over easy». I ordered the bacon crispy, but one piece was crispy and 1 piece was soft and soggy. The 2 pieces of toast were burnt, and the hashbrowns were very, very, dry with no flavor. The Grinder have been serving customers since 1968, so I expected a little more for the money than I received today.

The service was good. The food was very good EXCEPT they need to loose the whipped margarine and use REALWHIPPEDBUTTER. They have great tasting pancakes but the taste of the margarine ruins it. Use real butter it doesn’t cost that much more! I heard another table complain about it. They brought me small real butter squares that were so cold it took a while to warm them to spread on my pancakes. REALBUTTERPEOPLE! Not chemical laden fake stuff!

What a delightful little diner. Good food, fair prices, and good service. I had brunch, they had what I wanted; and it was under $ 7. The atmosphere is pleasant; not fancy. The service was fast and the server was nice.

Unfortunately this place is in a prime location but has not been updated in many years the wait staff are nice and the food is ok nothing great. But I still go there occasionally the prices are affordable. If they remodeled this place and added some good specials it could be really good

Breakfast tostadas are excellent, but the turkey burger is pre-made frozen. Service is THEBEST though!

We were seated immediately, the server was friendly and the atmosphere was a nice nautical theme. Only thing bad about the dining room were the bright lights hanging over each table. The people in the booth next to ours unscrewed the light bulb because it was so bright. I ordered the Fish and Chips and my husband ordered the Buffalo Burger. It took forever for our food to come out and our waiter joked that they had to go catch the fish. The buffalo burger was good. Many restaurants make them dry and tough to chew and that was not the case with Grinders. My fish and chips, however, were horrible. They were overcooked to the point of nearly being burned, Also, it was obvious the fish was cooked with the waffle fries because they had an overdone taste and some of the fish breading was in the fries. I had the regular fries which were meh. Not good, not bad, just meh. We’re not likely to go back.

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast this morning. The waitress was extremely nice and helpful… She’s been there for 28 years. I had an egg white scramble with with turkey sausage, spinach, tomato and Swiss cheese… It was yummy… Served with a side of fruit… I didn’t have toast as we sans the bread… Husband had a scramble with the turkey sausage, cheddar cheese and home fries… side of tomato and fruit. He said it was really good too… I guess so, he ate it all! And the serving was large! We would not hesitate to eat there again. If we lived in San Pedro…

Place was clean but pretty old. I ordered corned beef omelette but didn’t come out the way I wanted it. I could probably cook it better. But service was great. Our waitress was pretty fast and helpful. It was nice to try this one but definitely won’t be coming back unless I am really hungry!

I’ve been coming here with my family for as long as I can remember. Definitely a staple here in San Pedro. The food is always delicious. My mother and I sometimes come here and enjoy some comfort food. the burgers, wings, and chili cheese fries are delicious from what I heard. I usually get the garden burger with fruit and fills me up with a happy stomach. The staff is also very friendly as well.

My boyfriend and I came her after exploring the USS Iowa and we definitely enjoyed our meal. They have a killer double cheeseburger special and I swear it was the equivalent to the In-N-Out Double Double minus the fries(these fries were most definitely frozen). The service was great and our food came out quickly so we were happy because I was STARVING! The bathroom, sadly, was a mess so that was disappointing, but our waitress was so sweet and attentive. It’s good to know that there are places like this that are always open because, let me tell you, traveling through a WWII Battleship will definitely make you ravenous.

The place kind of reminds me of a Cocos. The Buffalo burger stands out on the menu, as I don’t see it served very often in other places. Went with a Jalapeño omelet. It was good, but nothing great or memorable.

I had driven to San Pedro to see the World’s Largest Rubber Ducky. After taking far too many pictures of the giant inflatable tub toy, I was a bit peckish. As I tend to do, I asked a cute lady working at the Maritime Museum where she would go in her fair city for some breakfast. She smiled, and informed me that while she was aware of only a few places, and she had only really visited the nearby Mexican establishments for her meals. But she had heard some good things about Grinders just across the street. So, I bid her adieu, and walked across the street to this little place. I remembered seeing it before, but always had my meal sights set on seafood meals in Ports of Call. I entered, and the place was quite busy. It took a few minutes before somebody even registered that I was there. Even then, the first few people to acknowledge me greeted me with ‘Welcome, I’ll help you in just a minute’. Eventually manager came over, and asked how many in my party. I let him know I was a walking party of one. He let me know it’d be a few minutes, looking past him, I noticed a few empty seats at the counter area, and inquired about them. He nodded and said ‘Go right ahead.’ I did. I sat down in a chair, and swiveled into place. Waitress behind the counter asked if I’d like coffee, and I graciously accepted. I picked up the breakfast specials menu that was inserted into a napkin holder and took a looksee. I was torn between two items, and when this happens, I tend to ask the people for a push in one direction or the other. Helpful waitress mentioned that she had experienced the chorizo & eggs earlier, and it was quite tasty this morning. She mentioned this because that’s what they used in the Jalapeño omelet. So, I was pushed off the fence into the yard of the Jalapeño Omelet. I asked for one, and with a smile, she jotted it down on her notepad. She asked me what I’d like as a side, and after she rattled off her list, I chose the option of white toast. She then took off to deliver my request to the kitchen. I then turned to connect my ipad to their wifi bubble. I fumbled around for a bit with the wifi bubble for the port of LA, but then asked a different waitress behind the counter, and she gave me the password for the restaurant’s wifi bubble. Before too long, my omelet was placed in front of me, and it looked good. I hungrily dug into it, and was instantly reminded of two things. One, Jalapeños are pretty spicy, and two, I never did ask for that cup of water. Waitress saw me flustering, and I gestured for some water to help with both the temperature heat, as well as the spicy heat. Waitress smiled and produced a cup quickly, which I hurriedly gulped down to quench the fires blazing across my tongue. We both said something about jalapeños being spicy, but good, and then I resumed eating. The omelet was good, as was the service. Since I’d skipped it so many times in the past, I’m really glad I finally had a chance to stop in here for breakfast. Good job guys.

Nice menu, delivered what they promised. Ordered off menu and it was fast, quick and tasty. Waitress was nice. The ambiance is Dennyish. It’s diner food but very good. Great and convenient if you are going to the Iowa!
