My Buddy Rick just started at this cool barbershop… great place, its clean, everyone is friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. Rick has great style and will be bringing my son to get his ears lowered here too! Overall great place to get your hair cut, styled or whatever! Cheers!!!

Cute lil shop on the corner with Valerie doing an awesome job! Shop is small with just a couple of chairs but has a very open feeling… and If there is a wait at all, it’s worth it. With the mix of older and newer Nautical décor as well as the photo tribute to her late father, this makes this lil shop seem like home. If you just want a hair cut/​shave this «would» be a good place to go but if you want «The Best» then you «should» head to SHELLBACK !

Sean has been cutting my hair for several years and always does a great job. He takes his time and makes sure I’m happy with the cut. Very knowledgable about hair cutting and music. Shop is small but cozy.

Great little shop! Came in today for a haircut. Sean did my cut, gave me great advice on the upkeep of my hair and took his time making sure it was perfect! Great price! Great service too! Good olde fashioned barber shop off the beaten path. I will be back for sure, and will tell my friends about this place. Highly recommend!

Came in for my first cut at Shellback Barbers, I saw Sean. He gave me a nice clean cut for a great price. I’ll be going back to this neighborhood barber shop.

Nice location in town. Simple, small, clean barber shop. Go see Sean. He’ll take the time to make sure your cut is done right. No Supercuts express cut here. It was my first time visiting the shop since Sean moved over to cut here. I’ll be coming back.

came here to get a haircut, Valarie was very nice and gave me a great cut. The shop was clean and had a warm feel to it. Its a smaller shop but I like that because all of the attention was focused on my haircut. After leaving I received a lot of compliments from friends and family. I will be back for sure! Excellent little shop. Valarie is a great barber and gave me and my son an excellent cut. My son squirms around (he’s 21 months) yet val was able to produce a great cut. The shop is on the smaller side but it makes for a more intimate experience. This is the place to go to in San Pedro for Traditional cuts. I recommend this shop very highly and will be returning.

Valerie is a fantastic Barber. She is well trained and has a good hand. The haircuts are always on point. I travel all the way from Whittier! She also introduced me to Layrite pomade, which is my new addiction. Great prices, good cuts, great service.

My stylist moved away so I was in search of a stylist/​barber that could do a scissor cut on my short hair. Apparently they are hard to come by. I tried a few (thank God my hair grows fast) and was about to give up and just change my whole style until I found myself at this shop. For one, I thought it was pretty cool having a female barber cut my hair since most are men. Two, parking was easy (not so easy w/​my original stylist). Three, she ACTUALLY did a great job at scissor cutting! No lie… I loved it. Thank God I found her shop cuz I really didn’t want to change my whole style. She’s an awesome chick and a great barber. ParKing is difficult tO finD, thIs iS a vEry sMall shop after loosing mY stylist I wAntEd tO fInd a good pErsOn tO cUt mY Hair and Son’s hAir, obviously VALERIE, wAs not thE righT Barber. I came here because of Unilocal reviews and I fell for the hair cut pictures that were posted here again. Looking for a new place for my boyfriend and son. This place is very small and claustrophobic, the shop doesn’t have and old school appearance rather than it just looks old. Parking was extremely hard to find because of all the apartments in the area. My son went in and came out with a not clean cut, and it wasn’t blended in to well either. It’s been very difficult finding a barber in San Pedro. I have been to several barber shops and I tried giving this place a shot because of the positive reviews it had on Unilocal.I wasn’t too pleased with the work and that’s why this my rate.

Conveniently located within walking distance to my home and Valerie always gives my son a great haircut! I recommend her and Shellback Barbers. I believe the price is $ 15 for a boy’s cut.

Just got my first haircut from Valerie today. She did a FANTASTIC job. I have been wandering alone in the barber desert since I moved to San Pedro and away from my old barber. I have had crappy haircut after crappy haircut, but now, finally, I have a new home. Regarding an earlier review, yes, she is in fact all woman. I assume that she’s been so her entire life, but I didn’t want to pry. Believe it or not, her gender did little to nothing to affect the quality of my cut. What did affect the quality of my cut is her mastery of her craft, ability to communicate back and forth with me, and her extremely pleasant demeanor which made the entire time there interesting and enjoyable. She’s also got badass tattoo sleeves, and that’s gotta mean something. Get down there and give her a try!

I had the same barber and he passed away recently he had been in that shop almost 30 years plus. After trying three different barbers. I was so happy to see his shop re open .This little shop. And the pizza place are breathing new life. Into the old Alma market building. And I met Valerie. She is the barber. More than 20 years experience. There were some plaques on the wall for the Coast Guard. Maybe she cut her there I did not ask. It was my second haircut By her. I wanted to see if the next one was going to be as amazing as the first one. Nothing but compliments. Well I have to say this is actually the best haircut I’ve ever had. Thank you so much. You have created a customer for life. I work at a five-​star hotel and every day we have lined up a check our fingernails and everything. I was told to stand in the middle of the room and the manager said look at his haircut it’s clean and neat. It was one of the best compliments.

Valerie, is no Ray. The Mop shop with Ray was much better.(now renamed Shellback barbers) Came back here for a haircut after trying out a couple other spots in Pedro after Ray got sick and passed away. Valerie, left me with scratches all over the back of my neck, my neck has been sanded raw almost bleeding, side burns were uneven, her demeanor was awkward. One thing I do not like is when business owners solicit. Unilocal reviews. I will not come back. Hard to find a good barber. Remember when barbers were Men. It should of stayed that way.

It’s with great pleasure that i write this review for Valerie and The Shellback Barber Shop. Never met anyone more passionate than Valerie when it comes to cutting hair. She a delight to talk to. Loved to hear her stories of growing up a Navy brat and amazing relationship to her Sailor father, the inspiration for her shop. I wish her the best of luck.
