Key Lime Pie is delicious, as suggested by the cute RHCP woman. Excellent service from the very nice gentleman.

I’ve been here several times since I’ve moved in the area now, expect to wait in line because there is always a line even on a Monday night at 10:30PM, but it is DELICIOUS! Staff seemed frazzled because it’s busy, but that’s expected. Try the hot fudge, it’s delicious and you won’t regret it!
Will have to come in for more than just ice cream next time, the place always smells like bacon and the BLT looks awfully tempting.

I grew up in Marin County and have been going to Double Rainbow for a long time. They’re one of the latest open places that isn’t a bar, and the only place I can get a vegan milkshake, vegan thai iced tea, vegan affogato, etc etc. The workers are always friendly, the prices are very affordable, and I love the quirky mix of people that frequent this place. I hope they stay in business for a long time.

NOSTALGIC
The best late night spot in Marin. My kids love this place. We make it a point to stop by when we’re strolling downtown San Rafael. It’s a great hangout place for both kids and adults, family-​friendly. Besides ice cream, there are fresh salads and sandwiches made with love. If you’re craving other sweets, they have pies, cupcakes, cookies, etc. There’s something for everyone here!
It’s one of those places you never want to see close. We have had many fond memories here. The tables could be cleaned off faster, but there’s always seating at the bar top. The owner is usually around in the daytime, very nice man. The ladies working the counter are accommodating and efficient. They bring the sandwiches/​salads to your table with a smile. My kids and I love their hot chocolate when it’s cold outside, hits the spot!

Really good ice cream, they have good flavors. Doesn’t usually have a super long line. Would defiantly recommend it.

Green Tea Ice Cream! Do I need to say more? You do not find this kind of ice cream many places. And the level of quality of the ice cream was delish! They had a line and two people working. The place was loud and that made for an uncomfortable environment. There are made notes all over that say there is free Internet but nobody could seem to get it to work. The gals that were working moved as fast as they could. One of the gals with dark hair seemed a little more stressed whereas the gal with the blonde hair was fantastic! She was smiling and moved like lightning the whole time! I plan to go back again when hopefully it is a little slower because I wanted to order food besides ice cream it just was taking to long.

I’ve eaten then entire menu at least twice. The friendly atmosphere is something that alone would keep me coming back but on top of that there’s tons of fun and colorful people, amazing food and the best vibes in the world. Bar none my favorite place to eat in the entire county.

I had a scoop of the «it’s a goody» flavored ice cream and it was DIVINE. It was sooo rich, creamy, and flavorful. This is a super cute and quirky retro diner with a great menu of coffees, shakes, ice cream, and some food items so it has whatever you’re in the mood for. I’ll definitely be back for more!

It was a very warm Sunday evening, 88 degrees at 6:45 PM to be exact. We had just left church and I suggested to my siblings that we meet up for ice cream before we head home.
I Unilocaled for a nearby ice cream shop and found that Double Rainbow was less than a mile away from church and we made our way over.
Parking in downtown San Rafael on a Sunday is awful, but I was lucky enough to find a spot a few steps away and I left the spot right in front for my sister since she has two young kids. My older brother, on the other hand, had to drive around for a good five minutes before he was able to find a spot.
When we showed up, there weren’t any customers in line so the 8 of us made our way over & asked to sample a few flavors. The young girl working seemed a little stressed when she saw our big group, but got more overwhelmed when new customers kept coming in. She didn’t seem very pleasant to begin with, but was even more unpleasant when the line started getting longer.
She got even more unpleasant when I told her about the 10% Unilocal check-​in offer, saying she didn’t know anything about it. I showed her the offer on my phone and she said «fine, I’ll give it to you since there are so many people waiting in line.» As if it was my fault that she wasn’t aware of the offer…
I decided on a small with the white pistachio & salted caramel which were both just ok. My son ordered the white pistachio & hazelnut latte, which I really liked. I tasted my nephew’s green tea and strawberry cheesecake as well, both were good.

I like this neat little place. The employees are nice. The décor makes it feel cozy. They’ve got great ice cream. Their coffee isn’t anything special, but good enough just to drop in and grab a cup. Haven’t tried the food here yet, so that will have to wait until an update. Overall I can see this becoming a good place to hang with friends or stop by late night. If you’re looking for great food, this doesn’t look like it’ll be what you’re looking for, but if you want a nice hangout, this seems perfect.

I’m a sucker for ice cream and rainbows. Thus, I’m always up for finding scoops of rich ice cream at the end of double rainbows.

The owner is just the nicest person! Their service is top notch and the food is just amazing! I have been a faithful patron for at least 15 years and will continue to come here as long as this place is still in business. My favorite ice cream is the coffee flavor.
I want to respond to the negative review about Eden. She is a sweetheart I used to take Kung Fu classes with her. She is the coolest and most laid back person ever! She doesn’t have an additude problem! I came in a couple of days ago and she served me my favorite ice cream flavor (coffee) with a smile.
There is also a review about waiting one and a half hours then not being served. I’ve rarely had to wait for service at this ice cream shop. I don’t think that Unilocaler isn’t telling the truth. My question is why would you wait in line for that long before leaving? That doesn’t make any sense to me. As for the yogurt machine, I really don’t care if they actually fix it! I am there for the full fat delicious ice cream they serve. Their sorbets are also amazing but I come for the actual ice cream. Keep up the good work Double Rainbow!

Ultra Chocolate ice cream!!! is so good here, granted the line can get a lil long, and service can be a little slow, but its worth it. The staff is friendly so it makes up for the slowness.
Its a retro lil place that has been around for a long while (since I was a wee annoying child).
The smoothies are pretty good (my sis loves the wild berry with raspberry sherbet) and the sundaes are huge.
Haven’t tried the food, but the ice cream is on point.

Small ice cream servings make me cranky, and when I’m 8+ months pregnant, stingy ice cream servings make me realllllyyyyyy cranky. I worked at an ice cream parlor one summer when I was a teenager, and I really do believe that generous servings are the best way to get customer loyalty. Anyway, perhaps the servers last Saturday were just chintizer than usual. I hadn’t been to Double Rainbow in awhile, but I don’t remember feeling as cheated in the past. My other gripe: every time I have stopped in – or even just poked my head in to check for soft-​serve frozen yogurt – since December 2013, the soft-​serve frozen yogurt machine has been «temporarily out of order.» Look, if you’re not going to get a new machine or fix the old one, just take it out of the place and take soft-​serve off the menu.

Cool décor. Love the local, retro-​bohemian feel of the place and the eclectic downtown San Rafael, but left feeling like I could have gotten better service and wish my dish would have been better. It was a standard experience outside of the local flavor/​décor.

Great place. Service was quick — which can be unusual. Great idea with trivia questions and lots of decorations and the cupcakes made the kids day!
This is a San Rafael staple so not much else I can say…

My friend Julie and I came here for ice cream after lunch. It’s a very big place with lots of tables and seats for accommodating guests.
They carry the Double Rainbow Ice Cream. It was my first time having it, but it was one of the creamiest ice creams I have ever had.
Service behind the counter is very friendly and make sure to show your student ID for a discount on your purchase!

Updating my review after eating tons of baked goods at this place and having a far better experience with them prior to my last review.
Their tuna salad sandwiches are bomb.
This place is a must-​visit for any form of basic human joy.

The Double Rainbow offers a variety of flavors. Ice cream lover? You’re covered! Lactose intolerant? Yup, this place checks out!
My favorite is the strawberry. I typically mix this with chocolate or with any of their seasonal flavors. I love their ice cream.
The guys behind the counter are sweet! (Heh) They’re very cute and incredibly helpful.
