The food was ok but the service was horrible! The hostess at the front desk, rude and obnoxious. She put us off from ever returning here again!

I have hands down never been treated so rudely by a restaurant. We dine in & do take out on cold evenings since we like their udon noodle soup, but tried their sushi to go one evening last week. The rolls came smushed in plastic containers too small for the rolls(we ordered 3), and by the time we got home(2 min drive) they had fallen apart. We called to ask what happened with our order, and ask if we could bring them back or get a refund since it was $ 50 worth of rice & tuna smushed together… the waitress passed us to the manager, then the owner who just kept shouting«container! container! container» and then hung up on us. Bottom line — we’ll never eat such terrible sushi again and nor recommend this to anyone.

NOTSOFRESH. The mackerel was stale, a couple of days past its prime; very expensive – $ 8 for two small pieces of nigiri; service rushed – in and out in 40 minutes, very focused in turning over the tables; many better sushi places around

What’s the big rush??? Clearing away the table while we’re still chewing! There were plenty of tables open at 6 pm on a Saturday, so what’s up with that? It’s nice to have attentive service but being OVERLY attentive makes it hard to enjoy your meal. Different servers would come up and ask us every 3 minutes how we’re doing, and if we wanted more beer 3 times during the meal! Food was very average. Fish was not super fresh. Lots of sushi rolls & bento box choices to pick from a large menu. Maybe more of a venue for families with little kids but not up to par for sushi aficionados.

4 out of 5 times the food has been very good. Generally very fresh fish. One of my favorite sushi places in Marin.

The bottom line is they try. That said, they could use a little help. The restaurant feels like they make more money from drinking nights than sushi. I like noodles, my husband likes sushi. We’ve been twice and were underwhelmed both times. The food never comes out even close to together, I watched my noodles get cold as the server ran around(not enough wait staff for the restaurant) and the pork in the Yaki Soba was super over cooked and fatty. Not good quality. Husband’s sushi was OK, not great. The high point is they want you to have a good experience, they are just missing the mark. I wish Kitchen Makeover would come whip them into shape!

We love Sushi to Dai For, and have dinner there most Friday nights. The sushi is fresh, the rolls are creative, and the service is amazing! Highly recommend. The Santa Rosa location is also good; we love it for lunch.

Love the Sushi here and have been coming here since they were located across the street. I especially like the Lion King Roll. They also have quite an extensive menu of bento items: tempura, teriyaki, salads, poke, sashimi, etc. A bit on the expensive side but you will be paying for quality. Which in my book is a good thing.

Absolutely the worst example of sushi or fish dish I have ever experienced, right in Marin? And SO expensive? Seems to be a bar with a fake sushi façade. The quality was like a fish place in the middle of a desert island at a gas station. Their seafood clay pot with crab, scallop and tofu was basically a few very small pieces of crab leg(which was overcooked and very little crab meet to even get one real bite), in salty broth with a little bit of soft tofu and the scallops were so tiny I could hardly find the four pieces, which they insisted were there. When I asked the waitress, where were the scallops in the«claypot»? and would she could add some fish? She answered that was exactly what came in every«package». A «package»? Fair is fair. When I complained to the manager about their«seafood» claypot having barely any seafood for a dinner dish? She said OK, we will add more seafood and she returned my dish with exactly the same pot full of nothing-ness with a funny look on her face. I then ordered mackerel sashimi for 13.00, and it was a tiny portion of dry, gooey in texture and smelled like an old sock and tasted like it too. I could not swallow it and had spit it out on my plate. Is this legal? I know SABA mackerel. One of my most favorite forms of of sashimi. I returned the Saba and I was completely done with needing anything else there. We ended up with 91.00 bill and don’t know what I actually had to EAT? The waitress and busser were super cool though. I liked them.

GARBAGE! The trash and slum of the sushi world. False claims of being anything that should even come close to resembling the Japanese cuisine of sushi. Japanese words that mean one thing in Japanese, but apparently mean something ENTIRELY different on their menu. Sloppy execution of rolls, and presentation. Their«spicy sauce» is literally siracaha spread on the plate. THEFIRSTTHING you see on the menu is a list of rules that you have to abide by in this establishment. Coming from a 9-year sushi chef, PLEASE do the culinary world a favor and stay away from this place so that they disappear from the face of the planet.

Eh… I may have a biased opinion since I’ve had sushi throughout the bay area. Sushi to dai for hits the spot when you are craving for sashimi. Service was okay and the food was alright. Sorry shishi to dai for, your sushi is not to die for in my book.

I’ve been a few times for take out when I have a sushi craving and dined in for dinner once. The sushi rolls are a bit pricey but consistently good. My personal favorite is the kamikaze roll, but I have yet to try one that I didn’t like. It’s not a top notch sushi place, but it’s certainly very good and I will continue to return!

I have been here several times, shocked I’ve not written a review! Downtown 4th Street so expect parking to be hassle if you’re dining on a weekend, but sometimes you get lucky. Everything is pretty good however I tend to favor the Candy Apples for a starter if I am dining with a friend. The rolls are large portion, so do keep that in mind when ordering, some are available in half sizes as well. Staff is usually right there when you need them, friendly and kind. I was there Saturday ½/16 late in the evening, after 8 pm service was very slow. Staff was busy watching the game on TV, had to flag someone down each time we needed something. Awful. Food was delicious. Every other time I’ve been there it has been wonderful, of course I will be back. Hoping basketball won’t be on TV :)

Ok, it’s a complex experience, eating @ Sushi to Dai For! Fun neighborhood, mediocre chairs, but booths in the back, if they are serving there when you go. Awesome rolls and specials. Definitely expensive. No Green Tea shakes or slushies, like Sushi Hana in Baltimore/Towson, MD. Big time, people-watching place, as it’s usually crowded. Open later than some. Across the street gets a ½ star higher rating. Hmmh! Well, we had hamachi sashimi — great but MOSTEXPENSIVEEVER: 3 thin pieces for $ 13…you do the math! But the unigai and dragon roll were so good. And undyed gari/ginger. Friendly service, though few people spoke English well enough to readily understand a word we said. Beer, cocktails, sake, etc., lemonade, and water to drink. Miso soup is excellent. They even served raw oysters. 3 TVs are perhaps too many. But I loved them when they were on the other side of the street. It’s certainly fun to walk around that town before and/or after dinner, maybe on a movie night to the Rafael theater. And after, go to Double Rainbow for the best Lychee and Green Tea ice cream! Perfect finish to a Japanese meal.

This is my top choice for sushi in Marin county. By far superior to other nearby locations although Kamikaze is a close 2nd. Sushi to Dai For is just amazing. Everything is always super fresh tasting and delicious. The specialty rolls list is extensive and creative. Plus the whole inside of the restaurant looks brand new due to the recent paint job and it looks like they recently got new tables too(I hadn’t been in for quite some time). The service is always wonderful also… warm and welcoming and efficient too. I went last Wednesday for the first time in years and it was just as good as I remembered. I got some green tea which was flavorful and piping hot. I also got some miso soup which was as authentic as you could get. perfect amount of salt in it. For sushi rolls I started with my favorite spicy tuna roll and the tuna was definitely A+ rating in my book – so moist it practically just melted in my mouth and the cucumber was perfectly ripe. I also got an order of shrimp and vegetable tempura. The batter was perfect – not too heavy, nice and airy and fluffy just as it should be. And the sauce was amazing too. Like I said just as delicious as I remember! Was too full for dessert but when I go back next I would love to try the melon shaved ice. Sounded so good! Can’t wait to go back soon for a second round‼‼

This the kind of place you go for fun, atmosphere and HUGE creative rolls. If you’re looking for sublime quality sushi, this may not be your place(although I found the quality to be pretty good). You’ll get to pick from a bunch of big-ass monster rolls – so big they offer them in half sizes(about the size of a normal roll in most places). The service can be hit and miss; catch it right and you’re golden. After getting stuffed to the gills(pun not intended) and drinking sake out of wooden boxes, who’d complain?

It’s not to die for, not even to come back for. Rolls are small for the price and the $ 15 rolls are about the same size as the $ 7 – 8 rolls. As for taste, «Kamikaze» was good; «Alex»(albacore w/green onion, ginger, and ponzu, topped w/albacore) was made with all chopped/macerated fish(low quality) that seemed to be waterlogged; «Giants» was forgettable and the mango sauce went undetected. I don’t know how this compares to other sushi spots in the North Bay since I live in San Jose.

Wonderful Sushi. But their cucumber tuna salad combo is off the charts. Nobody else has it. I love sushi and almost blacking out from the pain of the wasabi and I usually over order. Here I order the large salad and two rolls for the wasabi and I’m fat and happy. Good service and their beer is cold enough.

Deserves 3.5 stars. Nice selection of rolls and soups, as well as non-sushi options. Attentive service. Affordable. Large dessert menu. Great for families and groups of high school and college students(who already adore the place). Highly recommend early arrival for dinner to beat the happy loud crowd that fills up the place …

I came here among some colleagues for a post work function dinner. Overall ambiance is fine, parking is challenging as it is for downtown San Rafael always is. Not much else to comment about the surrounding area. FOOD: I ordered a Scuba roll per someone’s advice here on Unilocal.I was actually disappointed in the portion size and also the quality of the roll of the sushi. The moment I picked up my sushi, the sushi fell apart, which is a sign of the rice not being made correctly(not sticky enough) and also how tightly the roll was made. I was quite hungry still after eating, so after paying over $ 10, I was disappointed. OVERALL: I will have to say that I was disappointed with the quality of the sushi here for the price point. The service was what was expected of a sushi place. Nothing super above and beyond, but I did not experience poor service. Perhaps I am spoiled by my options in East Bay. I do not think I will be back here anytime soon and stay in East Bay for my sushi fixes,
