Four of us ordered Salmon with Vegetables listed as Chef’s specials was below par, Chicken with vegetables and the green beans were so so. Would give it a 1 star rating.

The last few times we have ordered take out food from Uncle Yu’s, we have found the food to have been bland and not up to the standard we have experienced over the past 25 years.

This is a great, high end spot. I had the Szechuan Beef lunch special and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Hard to beat. Andy kept me company at the bar and we traded favorite San Francisco Chinese food restaurant stories. Uncle Yu’s can hold its own with the best.

Amazing food. Always loved this place, Hopefully always will. Unfortunately when I came in, me and the person I was with felt forgotten about. There was one person who looked like a bus boy that ended up being our server, and took 10 minutes to get a waiter to our table. Overall the food was very good, but service was sketchy.

I’ve been coming here since the mid 90’s. It is always very good and many of the original staff members are still here. Diverse menu and a touch of class in this restaurant. Fantastic lunch menu too.

This is the go to! Great place for special occasions, dining people from out of town or even the on the go pick up! I’ve had many family style dinners here and have yet to find a dish that I’m not crazy about. I’ve had great service experiences and would highly recommend a try.

It looks like the reviews from a couple of months ago worked since our party if 10 had a great meal last night. We have won ton soul, egg rolls, yu-shiang chicken, asparagus beef, citrus shrimp, lettuce wraps and mixed chow mein All were great. Service was attentive and friendly. A very good and reasonably priced wine list also helped the evening. We will definitely be back

The food here is pretty good! But the service is great. The owner is super nice and all of the waiters and waitresses are kind and attentive. Also, the wait for your food is very short! Really nice restaurant, I definitely recommend it!

Was in the mood for beef chow fun today, since this Chinese restaurant was closest to where we were at the time we decided to give it a try. Man what a big mistake that was. I have eaten a lot of beef chow fun in my life and the beef chow fun by Uncle Yu was by far the worst. First, for the price, that beef chow fun portion was on the small side. Second, which was most important, it tasted horrible. The beef chow fun was super salty with a lingering sour taste. The green onions was still raw… it’s like they don’t know how to make Chinese food.

I LOVE this place! Uncle Yu’s is awesome and their Mai-Tais are delicious. My boyfriend and I often eat here. The service is great and the atmosphere is just lovely. We always leave a few pounds heavier.

Food = good, nothing to go crazy about but good! Price = Overpriced… i ordered a side of broccoli and they charged $ 10 Customer service = blahhhhh, you stand in front of them, they tell you to wait while the regular that walked in after gets seated. the front desk/cashier/ordering spot is nothing but pure confusion. there is no communication between the employees on who is helping who. if you are not vocal, you’ll be standing there while the staff tries to figure out which end is up.

EEKS indeed. Sad… I remember this place being better! It’s a nice white tablecloth restaurant with good atmosphere for lunch… if you like super salty or super sweet Americanized Chinese food. The Hong Kong style noodles have no trace of authentic Chinese food. It was definitely an American style stir-fry on top of pan fried noodles. The food was SUPER salty. The Yushian eggplant was super sweet. EEEKs! I highly recommend going elsewhere if you are looking for authentic Chinese food. This place has definitely catered to the American palette. Mommy Tip: Bring toys for kids, lunch takes a bit. High chairs are available.

Me and the SO wanted Chinese food on Christmas Eve so we chose this restaurant because of the positive reviews. Upon arrival we ordered take out. The restaurant has a very upscale feel to it so we were expecting something special. We ordered vegetable egg rolls and tofu with vegetables. On the way home, I had visions of thin tofu strips sauteed with generous amounts of snow peas, green beans, peppers, zucchini, asparagus, carrots, broccoli, bok choy and mushrooms. As I took out the very carefully packed food, I began to salivate. Was I in for a surprise. The egg rolls were greasier than I expected. They should have been drained better. Okay, egg rolls have to be fried. It happens sometimes. However, the real kicker was the tofu with vegetables. This dish was basically huge chunks of tofu(lots and lots) with a couple of mushrooms, some bok choy, and spartan quantities of snow peas and sliced carrots, and I mean spartan. The first thing I thought was where’s the vegetables? Also, huge chunks of tofu make for unpleasant eating(chomp chomp). The dish should have had sliced tofu. Very disappointing. A huge waste of time driving to this restaurant. Won’t be going back next Christmas Eve, or any day of the year for that matter.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant I’ve been to. American-Chinese food is generally unhealthy. But Uncle Yu’s Restaurant strives to make their food healthy without losing taste. Their dishes are made to order, so you can customize your order to your liking. For example, my kids love beef and broccoli. But they like the broccoli more so I ask for less meat and more broccoli. My boys also like the fried rice, and I’ll ask for extra egg and and peas. You can almost call this a gourmet dining. They have an excellent wine list, they have awards for the past few years for their selection of wines. Service is also great. The waiters and waitresses appear to be friendly and also know their dishes. Honestly, I haven only ordered my food«to go» but the food has always been delicious and appealing to the all the senses. I recommend the broiled eggplant with oyster sauce with an order of white Jasmine rice and a cup of tea or wine. I can only award 4 stars this time, because I’ve never eaten at a table. The next time I go I’ll sit at the table and be able to award a full five stars.

This is my Oma’s favourite spot to take the family out for dinner when I’m in town. She loves the white table cloth and napkins which makes it classy. The food is not authentic by any means, but it fits the area well. They have a good variety of vegan options and the food is not greasy at all. While the sauces seem a touch bland for me, I love spices and spicy foods so I can be a bit heavy as a critic on that. While I’m usually more for authentic food than Americanized, I do really like this place. They make pretty good cocktails too. I’d ask for a Manhattan. Yum. The service is fast and efficient. They are not the friendliest staff, but they are by no means rude or aggressive, more rushed. I would normally give the place 3 stars but since my Oma is such a fan and I love getting together with her and out of the house, I have to give it 4.

Each time I’ve come here, I always feel so dirty. Why? Cause it’s so unauthentic and so Americanized that I kind of am sad, but a lot of coworkers love this place so I bow to their whims and likes. This time I ordered the shrimp & scallop with vegetables with brown rice for the lunch special. It came with hot sour soup would was not hot in temperature and not sour enough. Did I mention this place is very Americanized? So I had to ask for chopsticks and the chopsticks they gave me were the wooden takeaway kind. Wow. Sad. The shrimp and scallop dish was good. More vegetables than actual shrimp or scallops. But the flavor was pretty good. Made me feel like I was eating something healthy. The service was ok. I always feel like there’s this contempt from the folks that own this place. No smiles just kind of angry all the time but I guess they can get away with that as well as price things a bit more as they’re in San Ramon. Overall I would never come here, but like I said… I only really go here because others make me.

After doing my research about Uncle Yu’s to figure out if they were a safe place to eat at I finally decided to give them a try. They have a gluten free menu built right into their regular menu and after sitting down and speaking to the waiter I learned that all the items on the gluten free menu are dairy free as well. I am really glad my dad was there with me, because I had a hard time understanding his accent at times. I browsed over my options and a lot of them are very similar just with different variations of meat and vegetables in a similar sauce. They listed the ingredients to the gluten free sauce at the bottom of the page which was nice. I ended up with the Chicken with mixed vegetables in a light brown sauce and my dad ended up with the lemon chicken(not gluten free). Unfortunately you have to pay for rice separately here which was an additional 1.50 per person for white rice or 1.75 for brown rice. We both ended up with the white rice and the food came out relatively quickly. I liked that they brought me out a bottle of gluten free soy sauce without me even asking. Upon our dishes arriving I was surprised at the portion sizes. They were quite large which was nice. The chicken in both our dishes was all chicken breast which is the only way we would have really liked it so that was good. My dish was pretty bland, but it was gluten free and dairy free so I was happy either way. Wish they would have had a soup option that was gluten free or a little bit more variety on the types of sauces for the gluten free dishes, but either way at least they offer something.

On Saturday, 8÷9÷14, my girlfriend and I ate at Uncle Yu’s for lunch. We originally wanted to try the Livermore location but San Ramon is closer to where we live. Atmosphere/Décor: The restaurant is pretty nice. There’s plenty of tables to sit at. The bar area is small. I like the Chinese décor throughout the restaurant. The white statues of a man and animal looked pretty cool. Food: My girlfriend and I decided to order the Lunch Special served with Hot & Sour Soup, fresh vegetables and choice of: steamed rice, brown rice, pork fried rice or vegetable chow mein. I went with the Broccoli Beef lunch special(Beef slices stir-fried with broccoli and carrots) and pork fried rice. The Broccoli Beef was really good. The meat was tender and had good flavor. The sauce tasted really good as well. They give you a lot of broccoli and meat. The pork fried rice was decent. I usually don’t order pork fried rice because I’m afraid of the pork being too fatty or tasting old. This wasn’t the case with this fried rice. The pork actually tasted good and fresh. The rice was just okay. I actually liked the fresh vegetables that were served with the lunch special. The cabbage tasted good. My girlfriend ordered the Orange Chicken lunch special(Crispy chicken with orange peel in a spicy sauce) and vegetable chow mein. She also ordered a side of white rice. She liked the food a lot. She said the chicken was very tender and the sauce tasted good. I noticed they use white meat for the Orange Chicken. I tried a few bites of her Orange Chicken. The Orange Chicken was really good. The chicken wasn’t dry and the batter had a nice crispy crunch to it. My girlfriend said the vegetable chow mein was simple but tasted really good. I’m a fan of their vegetable chow mein. The noodles were cooked perfectly. Sometimes simple is better. My girlfriend said the white rice was fresh and it tasted good with the Orange Chicken. Service: Our waiter was average. He was very quiet. He took our orders in a timely manner and our food came out fairly quick. Overall: I liked Uncle Yu’s. The food was good and it tasted fresh. I felt very clean and light after I ate my food. The lunch special is the way to go. It’s under $ 10 and you get a lot of food for that price. If you want some good Americanized Chinese food give Uncle Yu’s a try.
