Last night 4 of us went to Sand Point from Schweitzer mountain to have an Idaho Steak. Vintage Steak House, décor right out of the 60s with lots of Tiffany lamps and wood etc. meal was decent but what stood out was our incredible waitress, Morgan. She’s a friendly efficient waitress but when she heard that we were stranded because the only 2 cabs in town were out of service she said she was getting off work soon and would drive us home! What a life saver! It’s a long drive up a very windy mountain road. Thanks again Morgan!

Wonderful service! Accompanied by a perfectly cooked meal. My group enjoyed the prime rib, rib eye and new York steaks that were cooked perfectly. The waitress was courteous and well informed on what was involved with the cooking process of each item on the menu that we asked about.. Wish we could stay longer in Sandpoint to try out the other meals.

Love the ambiance… lots of wood with a cozy feel during the winter time. Their salad bar is my favorite! It’s like the salad bars I remember as a kid! It’s delish with a cup of soup which is also part of the salad bar option!

Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Excellent hamburgers, but they should get rid of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich from their menu. It was pretty bad.

We were seated promptly our server was Leandra. She was very attentive and made sure our meals were to our satisfaction. We sat on the back patio which was very nice. Nicely decorated with lots of umbrellas to shield us from the sun. The specials of the day were wild Alaskan salmon and veggies, 24 hour rubbed tri tip and a rib eye steak. We had four people and we all ended up ordering one of each of the specials. in addition, we had the steamed clams in white wine and butter which was tasty! Don’t miss out on those! You can add the soup and salad bar for an additional $ 3.95 which is reasonable. Food tasty, service great, prices reasonable and ambience was great! don’t miss out !

We ate at Hydra on July 4 a tradition for us. My fillet mignon was cooked to perfection. Hubby’s crab legs were so sweet. Service was delightful. Lots of leftovers as options are large. We enjoyed this anniversary experience.

The Hydra was highly recommended as a place to get a great cut of meat. My two friends and I specifically went to the Hydra to cap off our last night of our 50 year reunion with good food and wine. If fact, we drove from our hotel in Coeur d’Alene to go there. The 2 rib eye steaks were dry and overly cooked, in addition to being thin. The prime rib was the same way; dried and overly cooked. The wine was nothing special… from what we could tell, you can purchase their brands in any grocery store for $ 7−10/bottle. The baked potato and green beans were… well, a baked potato and green beans. The salad was good but nothing special. Atmosphere was pleasant. Service was good: waitress was friendly and quick to respond to our needs. However, for $ 27.00 per steak dinner and about the same for prime rib, all three of us were extremely disappointed when we visited on 09÷22÷14.

We really liked the small town atmosphere. Salad bar was very good. Steak was super good and well priced. Server was attentive.

Dinner with family… My first time eating there and because I was dining with«seasoned» family members I immediately learned the prices have stayed regular however they have eliminated the salad and/or soup with the meal and you now need to pay $ 3.95 for. Dinner salad. Also the well liked(I was looking forward to it) salad bar has been eliminated. I agree with others that the décor could use some updating. On the positive, I had the shrimp & pasta which was ok, but for the price it would have been nice to have a salad included. Because so many changes took place I probably won’t be back and I’m not sure my family will either.

Salas bar was one of their best sellers. Now they got rid of it. When asked why the server said if we want salad we can go to Pizza Hut. Very rude. Only thing they got going for them is the mud pie. Would go there all the time but now they are off my list. Stay away if I were you.

We enjoyed our dinner here. The prime rib and steaks were cooked perfectly. We had a nice dining area that was private. The prices are fairly high… About $ 150 total for the four of us but worth it for the quality.

Growing up in this town, this has been fairly regular on our rotation of restaurants. However, in the past few years it seems to have gone downhill. First of all, the décor is very dated, it is dark and cluttered, but somehow it works. There are a lot of nooks and crannies that offer some privacy while dining. The bathroom has been updated so that it doesn’t seem to grungy like the dining area. They recently cut down the menu and eliminated my mother’s favorite: the salad bar. They also used to bring bread out, but no longer. The main thing that makes this place a little bit better is the mud pie alone. It is a huge portion and very decadent. We split the huge portion almost every time. The food is ok, I never hate it. There are some things that are better than others. The portions are very large, and the service goes a long with that — just ok. The prices are a little spendy for the quality, and what you can get elsewhere in the town.

This is my favorite restaurant in town. Good food. Good service. Fair prices. Everything from an awesome burger to filet mignon. Best salad bar in town.

Well, tonight was our last meal at Hydra. My daughter and I were both very disappointed with our entire visit. While I feel like our server tried hard to do a good job, it was very apparent that the 6 top table was a much higher priority to her. Maybe understaffing was an issue. Everything took far longer than it should have… From getting water, all the way to getting our check. When I told our server that the baby corn in the salad bar tasted like it was coated in baking soda, she said she would let the appropriate person know. Nothing else. Not even a comp of the salads we were led to believe were a side of our entrée, not $ 3.95 each. Ranch dressing and cream sauce was watery. Salmon in cream sauce was dry.(How?!) Silverware was dirty. Drink order was forgotten. Our family used to enjoy frequenting this restaurant, but not anymore. Sorry!

Horrible service and ok over priced food. My parents went here for their anniversary and the cook came out in the parking lot yelling at them because of an unfinished salad bar plate. Will never go back.

I’m not a big fan of the atmosphere or location of this restaurant but the food was good and made fresh. My parents love this place for steaks. I eat mostly seafood and enjoyed my plates. Found it comfortable for a casual night out with my four month old.

We were on a vacation road trip and found this charming place. I loved the décor in an old house with seating on various levels. Our table was sort of in the center with curtains around part of it to give the illusion of privacy. The service was OK(3 – 4 stars). We split a large New York Steak which was delicious(not cheap for the area it was in). I would recommend this as a stop and we would probably go back if we were in the area.
