This restaurant has really gone downhill. This use to be one of my favorite restaurants but now it is less than mediocre. I have gotten«stomach problems» from eating here not once but twice — so it is sufficient to say that our family will not be eating here again.

The thing I like about Ruby River is I can go there and whatever I don’t eat I can resole my shoe with. I have 2 pairs of shoes with New York strip steak for soles, they grip and don’t wear out. Dogs chase me home but for the money I save I’ll live with it. They deep fry a baked potato and put all the fixings on it. Really have you seen America? Does it look like we need a deep fried baked potato with bacon on it?

Put our name on the wait list only to have a few friends of the hostess show up and she say then before all the others waiting. Then we ordered our steaks medium, they were both delivered very rare. I sent mine back to be re-fired, it was delivered by the manager, well done. The manager asked my husband if his was ok. Husband said it was very rare as well but had eaten ½ of it. The manager literally said«Oh well» as he was walking away. Not offering to make it right by offering a dessert or taking a percentage off the bill, nothing. I will NOT give anymore of my money to an establishment that does not respect their patrons.

Worst dining experience ever!!! Their service is the second worst in the restaurant industry and their filet is definitely the worst in the restaurant industry. My husband and I waited for 15min before a waiter showed up, and waited another 15min to get drinks. Their starters and sides are OK, but the filet is not seasoned at all !!! Worst steak ever in my life.

Waited 15min for our waiter. Waited more than 15min for the waiter to refill our beverages and water. The service is not professional at all. Warning: Their filet is wrapped with a Bacon!!! Definitely the WORST steak ever in my life. Not to mention the steak is not seasoned at all!!! I wish I could give a minus 5-star.

I’ve been going to this place for years. Their root beer is fantastic, and their entire menue is offered at a very good price. The only downside is that almost every time I’ve gone, my steak isn’t cooked correctly. My menu favorites: Root beer(made in the restaurant) Lettuce Wedge Jacketed Baked Potato Filet

Sometimes it just seems easier to give in than to continue making your case for really good food. It seems like every time I give in and go to a place I know I don’t appreciate, I end up wanting to ask those who encourage me to give in to pick up the check. Ruby River is one of those places. We hadn’t been to RR for more than a few years, so I thought there may have been a chance it would have improved. It’s likely going to be a few more before we come back. Here’s why… Appetizer: Coconut Shrimp with jarred orange marmalade were not cooked properly. The batter barely hung on in its gooey state, and was anything but delicious. The orange marmalade tasted cheap and old. Eleven dollars down. Entrees: Small Filet Mignon, ordered med-rare, delivered med-well, rendering it tough and chewy, and basically inedible for me. I thought about sending it back, but wasn’t interested in waiting another 40 minutes. The bacon wrap was floppy and greasy, and had to be removed. I get why they can’t cook the bacon to its fantastically crispy state, but why put it on there in the first place when you can’t eat it? Nearly twenty dollars down. The baked sweet potato side was by far the best part of my meal. The only problem was that I had asked for the butter on the side, as most places use far too much for my liking. It came with what appeared to be about 3 cups of mostly melted butter on it. I spooned out what I could, but just mixed in the rest. I’m not saying it wasn’t good, mind you. Just that it wasn’t how I ordered it. I also ordered sauteed mushrooms as a side choice, which never came. After asking twice, and being told, «Oh yeah, I’ll go check on those now,» I gave up. Hubby’s entrée choice was the T-bone, also ordered med-rare and delivered med-well. What the hell is going on at a steak specialty joint that they can’t cook a steak to order? Nearly thirty dollars down. I should mention that their Raspberry Lemonade is quite good. For $ 3.50 a glass(about 16 oz), it should be. We weren’t happy with the vast majority of our food, and although we tactfully let the waitress know it, there was no offer of a discount or anything else. All sald and done, our bill came to nearly $ 80. Mama is not happy spending that kind of dough for no joy. I’m through giving in to poorly cooked steaks. If we get coerced into coming here again, I’ll order an entrée salad. How badly could they screw that up?

Great food and awesome service! Gotta send a special shout out to our waiter Nick. We’ve gotten him a couple times and he is really great! Last time it was sper busy so he comped us a dessert and was just super nice so the wait wasn’t a big deal. Cocktails here are nice and strong! On a girls night out, we cherish that! It’s a nice treat before a movie even of you just want to grab a drink or two before the show. I like the lighting and cowboy /western atmosphere. It’s not cheap, but so much better than the freeze dried food at places like Applebee’s.

First of all they need to turn the intercom speakers down in the waiting area, talk about annoying. Second for a place that prides themselves on the best steaks in town, I hardly think steaks that taste like they were just taken out of the deep freezer and grilled are are the best of anything. I was very disappointed on this trip, as I’ve eaten here before and had a much better experience. I am not sure if they are under new management, new cooks, or what the issue was, but our steaks weren’t even worth finishing. We ate a few bites and decided to leave. At least the waitress payed attention to us not being happy and took one of the meals off our tab. Overall food was bad, but waitress did a great job trying to make it right with us.

Ruby River used to be our favorite steakhouse. The last two visits have been very disappointing. We were at the 4th S &7th E location, the service was beyond bad. Both times the server miss ordered part of our meals, took 15 minutes to bring drinks, and the service went down hill from there. This kind of service can’t make up for a good steak, especially when the prices have gone up.

I think 5 years ago I would have really enjoyed Ruby River. It would have felt like a fancy place to get a fancy meal. I suppose I’ve become a little bit more of a food snob, because I was pretty underwhelmed. We were invited here as part of a big group of great friends, so, no matter what, I knew I’d have a good time. That was the big positive. The restaurant atmosphere was sort of bustling and happenin’. I really did appreciate the big bucket of peanuts to keep us busy as we waited for our table. When I know I’m going out to eat I generally lighten up on meals the rest of the day, so I show up overly hungry. And patience, when it comes to food, is not my strength. The server did ok handling a big group. He was friendly and willing to chat about menu items, but seemed a bit stressed… so I didn’t feel like I wanted to bother him too much. It seems that the deep fried appetizers were pretty tasty, but ‘fried’ is pretty hard to mess up. I ordered the parmesan encrusted fish of some sort. Can’t remember exactly. The flavor was pretty good, but it was sort of rubbery. The server raved about the steak special that my husband ordered. There wasn’t a lot of comment while he was eating, so when he offered me a bite I was expecting to savor a delicious tender piece of meat. Instead, I just ate a mouthful of salt! Really bad. So, I guess my overall view is, if you’re going to go here, bring some great friends. That way you can have a a lot of fun while eating some food.

I was invited to a dinner her not too long ago, and realized that I’ve never eaten at a Ruby River before. So despite there being some other options out there, I was kind of looking forward to at least giving this place a fair shake. We arrived and had to wait about 15 minutes for a traffic-bound member of our party to arrive, so we took full advantage of the peanuts on the table. This is a bucket o’peanuts place, but not a toss ‘em on the floor joint. Just to clarify. The server was patient as we waited, took care of the drinks, and then took orders when they arrived. I ordered the special-steak-something-or-other. It was their homage to the Delmonico steak. Paired with some sauteed mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes. I know that seemed ambitious, because the steak was 16 ounces and the sides had some heft too. Steak came. First bide explodes with flavor. But I know it’s trouble. The flavor is salt. Second bite, first as same, but now I’ve reached my daily recommended sodium intake. From the third bite on, I just kept thinking how I wished they’d served me some steak with my salt. I finished the thing, because the guy next to me ordered the same thing and it was a pride issue, but I wanted to dip it into water from the Great Salt Lake to take the salt level down. Not pleasant. Sides were okay. Pretty run of the mill shrooms, but a creamy skiff of mashed potatoes that were not too heavy handed on the garlic(I wish the garlic guy would have been on salt shaker duty) rounded things out. We sat and chatted for at least an hour after the meal was done, so RR earns points for patience and for handling our large group. Other meals looked acceptable, although I don’t feel like I should go to a steakhouse and have to order chicken to come away winner.

I came here after hearing a colleague that claims Ruby River is the best steakhouse in Sandy. I was quite shocked upon hearing that, since I never had good experiences with restaurants next to that theatre, such as the Mayan. They are located at Jordan Commons across the street from the Megaplex Theatres. As with all other steakhouses in Utah, the place is packed on the weekend, so plan on ahead. After a long wait, we finally got seated. The place had a pretty good western vibe and the service was decent. Everyone in our party ordered a steak dish with different redness. Our order consists of Filet Mignon, Ribeye, and Prime Rib. When the food arrived, they all have one thing in common: overcooked. Medium ended up being medium-well and medium-rare ended up being medium. The seasonings were slightly low, some of us resorted to using A1 sauce for extra favors. I may have too much expectation for this place, overall, this was just an average steakhouse, and there are definitely better ones in the area. Perhaps the mistakes were caused by a busy weekend night, maybe I will return on a down day for another try.

This place is trying to be a cowboy steakhouse by using boots to decorate everything. Service has been good every time. The food is just alright. Probably your best choice if you’re also going to the nearby movie theater.

After a long day of boarding we decided to have some steak for dinner. Seeing as that this was the only steakhouse we could find in town, we had no other choice. The place was pretty packed, which is always a good sign. They offer free peanuts while you wait, which were delicious. Food was mediocre, service was friendly, but terrible. My soup was lukewarm, my chicken seemed like it was boiled then grilled on one side. It was also drowned in bbq sauce. The steak was also mediocre. Now the service was friendly, but oh so incompetent. Our waiter brought us bread plates, but never brought the bread. We were asking ourselves, «What are these plates for?» We soon realized it was for bread after we saw other tables with bread. He didn’t ask to refill our drinks. We had to constantly ask him to do so. Also we asked for A1 and tabasco and had to remind him 4 times to bring it. He brought it on a tray once with another table’s food, but forgot to give it to us and returned to the kitchen with it on the tray. When we asked for the check we had to wait 20 minutes. We finally had to flag down another waiter to get the check for us. I can see why this place has so many patrons. They have no other choice for steak in town. I know they don’t go for the quality of the food or service. I am so glad I live in LA and have countless dining choices.

I would not go back here, based simply on the food. Service was very good. I ordered a slice of prime rib. See my review of Kreis’ in St. Louis for how I feel about prime rib, so maybe this was just me being stupid. Anyway, what came was about 50⁄50 lean/fat, which is a little beyond what I would expect in prime rib. It was also(and maybe my fault for not asking for it without) coated in what felt like wet or frozen and slowly thawing grated horseradish. I’m not really a horseradish fan, and this had the effect of cooling the meat down and making it very wet. Not the most appetizing. A coworker ordered a New York strip, medium. He got one well. I mean, this bad boy was done. The server was very gracious in taking it back, and it was pretty rapidly replaced with another piece that was closer to rare than medium rare. Now, it was clearly fresh out of the broiler, so it probably could have sat and cooked itself a little more, but probably still not enough. Basically, he never did get it done to his taste. The waitress took it off the bill without us even asking, which was nice — my coworker wasn’t going to say anything about the second steak, but she could tell. So big points for the waitress — this isn’t two stars for her. Additionally, I feel like this was all a tiny bit overpriced, for what it was — a pretty mediocre cookie cutter chain steakhouse. If you have to go to a place like this, then pick something different. Although, my recommendation is that you do it right and go to a *good* steakhouse, whatever that may be in your area — Ruth’s Chris will do nicely.
