SUPEREXPENSIVE, same product elsewhere is half the cost. Little signs everywhere warning you, don’t touch, you break you buy, kids are mischief, don’t turn in the light, don’t open this door, no refunds! Blah blah! Goes to show you the business model of this place. On the other hand it’s a great store to get ideas, see selections then buy somewhere else.

They’ve got just about everything one can find on Amazon at a 30% price premium. Great selection, friendly staff, super expensive. You can spend hours here looking at everything they have. If I’m going to pay through the nose, I’m going to do it at Sur La Table at The Gateway. Moreover, it seems like they have twice the selection in half the square footage. Then there’s RESCO or Standard Restaurant Kitchen & Supply. Even Bintz is a good choice. Perhaps not for small applicances but for everything else, save your money.

I don’t know what to say about Spoons & Spice. I love it so much, yet it’s pricey, so I really don’t do a lot of actual buying. But of all my cookbooks, my favorites were purchased here. And when we needed new – and good-looking – salt & pepper shakers, the best looking ones I could find anywhere were here. So, Spoons & Spice definitely has it’s place. But I usually go in looking for something, and leave thinking I should see if Target sells the same thing for less.

This is one store I usually avoid because it is really, really bad for the budget – mainly because I think I need pretty much everything in the store. This last visit I went in for cupcake liners and came out with cute paper loaf pans(for gift giving), a cupcake plunger(for filling cupcakes), cute cookie cutters, an oven liner, a special fillable pen for drizzling and writing on baked goods and I think something else as well. Oh yeah, special dishes for diipping bread in oil. Of course I wanted to buy some Le Creuset bakeware, fancy silicone spatulas, gourmet peppercorns, a popover pan and special liners for baking muffin tops.(I already have a muffin top, so I passed on those.) Prices are a little higher than average, but it’s a one-stop-shop, so it is worth it sometimes!

My first trip to Spoons N’ Spice was a quasi-religious experience. I probably spent a couple of hours pawing every kitchen appliance, pot, pan, cookie sheet, silpat, and other cooking treasure in the store. This place has almost everything that a serious home chef could want, and probably a lot of things you didn’t know you wanted until you saw them on the shelf. It’s located in Sandy Mall, so there’s plenty of parking out front. The store’s organization is a little haphazard, but it’s basically lots of little clusters of like-items together. All the KitchenAid stuff together, a cookie cutter corner, a few racks of aprons, cookware on a baker’s rack, and so on, and on, and on, and on. The upstairs level has mostly canning and preserving items and a decent selection of cookbooks. Most items here are geared to the serious home chef, rather than the professional kitchen. It’s really about the variety of items offered(Aeblskiver pan, anyone?) under one roof. The scale definitely falls more towards the spoons, rather than the spices. There are some harder-ish to find spices there, but they seem more like an afterthought. I’m fine with that, but I can imagine being disappointed if I went in search of some exotic spices. It’s probably a good idea to call and talk to them if you’re after a specific item. Chances are they’ve got it, and three things like it, in four different colors. However, I’ve gone twice in search of specific canning supplies and twice not found what I was after. Not that I mind walking around a kitchen-themed Disneyland, but I was in the neighborhood both times. Great for the kitchen enthusiast, or the perfect place to buy a gift for someone who fits that description. I’ve not been to the other location.
