8÷20÷11 Tried the Ceviche de pescado, the host mentioned it’s what«put them on the map»…ordered the lomo Saltado and aji di gallina a shredded chicken simmered in bread, milk, and walnut… The service overall was great and the place was very clean and nice!

Overall: Just spoke to a couple of people who came here previously and they said the ceviche used to be good before ownership changed, but now the fish isn’t fresh as it used to be. Food: + Verde Pescado Cerviche: I don’t know why people were raving about this dish this so much. They obviously have never had real cerviche. It wasn’t spicy and it taste like the fish was fully cooked almost. I was so disappointed because the cerviche is supposed to be slightly raw! + Lomo Saltado was better than other restaurants, but I wouldn’t come back for it. Its still reminds me of the Vietnamese Shaken Beef rice dish and that has more flavor and is half the price. We paid almost 40 dollars for both of these dishes. Never coming back again. Even our water tasted like it was tainted with some type of melon… or we hope it was melon and not just the taste of bacteria infected sink water!!! Service: The place was nice and very clean and we got our food in a timely matter, but the food itself… I will not be returning. Environment: This was a clean place.

Food is a SOLID4 stars, initial service was sad, server was great though. The bathroom, just skip it. Some may say my 2 stars are unjust since it really dropped due to the initial service and restroom experience, but I think I should review the establishment as a whole. With that said the FOOD is awesome. We came here late Friday night, closing time said 10:00PM we arrived at 9:15PM, while seated, I noticed they turned their signs off and said close at 9:30…just an FYI. The men’s restroom was horrible… yeah I know, men’s bathrooms are usually bad, but this was due to negliect. check out the pictures I posted. I attempted to turn on the water the and handle came off, looks like it’s been off for a while and someone just keeps PLACING it back on top, It also seems like they decided not to buy anymore paper towels for their dispenser and instead, put the ONE roll of toilet paper on top the the hand towel dispenser, so if you actually dared to go #2 in that filthy bathroom you would use the same one… lucky all I needed to do was wash my hands… F@#K there’s no soap either!!! I guess maybe you don’t need the cold water handle after all huh? When we walked in no one greeted us for a good 2 minutes, servers made eye contact but no one came to seat up, the sign clearly said«please wait to be seated». To the right two employees dressed in white was talking to each other an either didn’t see us for 2 minutes or just didn’t care. I like to wait just to see how long bad service can be, kinda like my personal social experiment. I finally spoke up and asked if we were going to be seated or if we should just seat ourselves. One of the girls in white looked up, smiled and said she would seat us and said something about having a large 15 people party as an excuse for ignoring us… that table was done eating, no employees were actually tending to them… what a sad excuse. Their bread was warm and fresh, the green Aji sauce was flavorful but not spicy at all. I really liked the sauce from Inka Grill MUCH better. We started off with a Chicharon De Pollo, it was absolutely the best appetizer I’ve had in a while, the little strips of chicken was perfectly flavored and fried up, the Creamy Aji dipping sauce and red onions make a perfect combination. For $ 8 I was hoping for more piece though. The Arroz Con Pollo was good, but the chicken that was in it was dry and didn’t have much flavor. The Tacu-Tacu Con Bisteck had really good steak, a bit on the thin side though. the rice and beans that came with it was really good. I could just eat that by itself!

I am literally craving this place right now as I am writing this review. My friend and I just got off of work together and we are always hungry and decided to check this place out since we were closeby. We decided to get two different items and share the both of them so we can sample both items… we got: –Lomo saltado: I loved the sauce and the fries in this… I could pretty much eat fries as a meal by itself. I liked this one a lot. –Filet Mignon fried rice: So good and flavorful. The fillet was actually really tender and good. My friend and I pretty much drenched the green sauce all over our food and we used nearly the whole bottle. I am used to sauce bring a bit more spicier and I usually prefer it being spicier but theirs wasn’t spicy at all, but it was pretty good still. Portions were decent and it is on the pricier side here… it was about $ 15 for each dish. Service was very attentive though… They continually checked on us and we got our food really fast. Not the best Peruvian place that i have tried but very good! I will definitely go here again.

The staff is great, the décor and ambiance is warm and relaxing… but the food is just ok. I feel bad but the green sauce, lomo saltado in both dteak and chicken just didn’t blow my socks off. The first bread basket was hot and there was a nice crusty crunch, the 2nd basket was cold and chewy. Another minor bummer. It worked for my Peruvian fix but it didn’t satisfy my craving. Now I’m looking for another one; suggestions anyone? :)

Geesh, how much more delicious can you get?! Been here 3 – 4 times and have never been let down by DX. Moreover, every single dish we order is absolutely delicious. The locale is clean and the décor is not too busy(which tends to happen with Latin American restaurants). Plenty of booth seating as well as tables to accommodate large parties. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Even when all their tables are occupied, they take the time to keep checking up on you once your food is served. NOW, ONTOTHEFOOD: Empanadas: O M G, ok they deserve another one, O M G… So so good. They have them with chicken, beef, or spinach. Their competition(across-suite) also serves these flavors but aren’t nearly as flavorful in the filling or as flaky in their crusts. YuMmy! My favorite is the Chicken Empanada Chicken Anticuchos: This is a skewered dish of grilled chicken BREAST.(Yes, Chicken Breast, not chicken thigh like most other restaurants.) They serve it with some grilled potatoes and grilled corn. The chicken is marinated in some delicious magic sauce! THISAPPETIZERISAMAZING. So very tasty, so very tender, so very moist. I am in love. Picante de Camarones(Spicy Shrimp): Very very good shrimp with potatoes in a white wine sauce and steamed white rice. I admit I wish more shrimp were added, but the potatoes compensated. This plate is very mild in taste, no flavor of any component was over-powering. Saltado de Pollo: I’m sure many people have reviewed this because it’s the most popular dish in any Peruvian restaurant. It is, of course, super delicious and will leave you wanting more! I have not tried any desserts yet! When I do, I will update my review :-) WILLDEFINITELYBECOMINGBACK

— Locale Destination — It’s on Bristol St and W Sunflower Ave in Santa Ana. It’s in a corner of shopping mall across street from South Coast Plaza with other restaurants. It’s a bit tucked away but inside is clean and neat. There’s outside seating, as well. Attentive service. — Gluttony Expedition — Picante de camarones: Spicy shrimps with potatoes. Nice flavors but not so many shrimps in it. It’s not bad but won’t blow your mind. Amarillo ceviche: Tons of fish come with it. Light and lemony. Not bad. It’s not like the ceviche you would expect at the Mexican restaurants. The side vegetables like Yucca won’t excentuate the fish… Interesting but meh. Empanada(beef): Its shell was not so hard, the stuffing was decent. — Conqueror’s Deduction — It’s a very regular practice by Peruvian restaurants — a little overpriced. Whichever Peruvian places you go, entrée costs like $ 15 or so and won’t blow your mind nor your taste bud — when it comes to flavors and quality. This is not bad, but it won’t WOW you for +$ 20 unlike the panini(+$ 10) at Amelia’s Espresso & Panini in Santa Monica.

Okay… This would have been a 3.5 star review, but as the food is spectacular, my rating was bumped up to a four. the sangria. Wow, wow wow, what a disappointment! I know, right? It tasted like boxed wine, and had no fruit. hello? I thought this was a peruvian restaurant? My party was helped by three individuals. Two didn’t speak english. Authenticity or pure inconvenience? you make the call. By the time we had ordered. we were a little annoyed, but then the food came. Wow, wow wow! It was so good, I can’t even put it into words. My advice? Come here for the food, not the drinks. Oh, and if you luck out, just point to what you want on the menu to communicate :)

I like how in this part of Orange County, you can drive a mile or so in either direction and end up in either Irvine, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, or Santa Ana! I didnt realize Santa Ana was this close but I was craving some good Peruvian one night after work and my trusty Unilocal app came up with this place a mile or so from where I was. I always had this image of Santa Ana being ghetto but I guess there are nice parts of the city just like in any other place and Dx Peruvian is located in the better part of Santa Ana. Dx Peruvian is located in a complex near the mall. I dont know which mall it is but Im assuming its the Santa Ana mall? The interior of Dx has that loft like feel with cement floors and open ceilings. They were bumping some cool latin music when I walked in and the place was pretty much filled so I knew it was going to be alright here. It did take a little while for someone to approach me as I watched one of the bus boys clean off the table next to me. He finally brought me out a small sliced loaf of bread in a basket and the green aji sauce. Thank goodness cause I was pretty hungry by this point. The aji sauce wasnt as thick as Ive seen at other places and also didnt have quite the spicy level that I like. I decided to order the Saltado de Pollo which was a pretty good choice. I really liked that the fries were crisp on the outside but very soft on the inside. I liken them to miniature baked potatoes which was really pleasant to eat. The flavor of the dish was truly delightful. However, I wasnt fond of the fact that they serve the dish with a small scoop of rice which was not enough for the nice sized portion of the main dish, I thought. Also, I felt a little funny in my stomach afterward which I attributed to them probably leaving the aji sauce bottle unrefrigerated. Since the primary ingredient of aji sauce is mayonnaise, you definitely need to be sure it doesnt stay out in room temperature for too long. Other than that, I enjoyed the dish I had as well as the ambiance and so Id be willing to go back here again.

I went there because I purchased a UnilocalDEAL *Thank you Unilocal* One more Reason to Love you! Great Deal and awesome place. Going to DX Peruvian was a great experience, I’m definitely going back :) The place is hidden on a strip mall close to South Coast Plaza. The place was kind of busy but we didn’t have to wait and got a table immediately. First we got some warm and delicious bread. The green sauce was SOOO good better than other Peruvian places I have been. The servers were quite busy, so we had to ask 3 times for butter(maybe it was a sign from heaven… DONOT eat butter :’() and 2 times for water. To drink I tried to drink Chicha morada, but they ran out * I know it was a busy day! but chicha morada in a Peruvian place? gimme a break, it’s like a McDonalds ran out of coke.* We started with some Empanadas de Espinacas, nice and crispy with a nice tangy dipping sauce. We also had some Cristal(really good beer!!) As a main course I had Saltado de Mariscos, it was a bit spicy for my taste but still tasty. Dessert: Alfajores to go. The portions are quite generous, I already had a box with my leftovers and then a box with the alfajores :) because of my gigantic sweet tooth Overall this restaurant is really good. Not fancy, but quite decent and really authentic with all the flavor from South America. As I said at the beginning, I’m definitely coming back. Highly Recommended!

I received this message from the owner: This is not the case at all… and you will recall… we discussed this at the time you brought this to my attention. We are a very successful restaurant and growing… yes we have lots of kinks to work out Your comments are misplaced… and poor shot your attempting… and a cheap shot to promote another restaurant… comments like this are flagged and watched. I say thank you for the feedback… stick with your Mario’s …sorry we are not perfect… good luck and God Bless **** Sir, I’m not trying to take a «cheap shot» or «promote another restaurant.» I just shared my review based on my personal opinions. If you’d like to flag my review, by all means please do so. I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong and I stand by my initial review.

Why didn’t I know about Unilocal Deal of the Day? =(My lunch was okay but it would probably be better if I bought YDotD. We shared filet mignon lomo saltado and chicaron de calamari. Filet mignon lomo saltado: this was the most expensive lomo saltado I ever ordered. I was expecting a tender lomo saltado for $ 14.95. It was chewy but the sauce was very good. Chicaron de calamari: $ 9 appetizer that was served with red onion, tartar sauce and lime wedges. It was kinda crispy and kinda good. We got complimentary bread with super green sauce like other typical Peruvian restaurants. The bread was cold but its sauce was very good and strong. Wine & beer served here. 3.5 stars! Dx Peruvian restaurant is kinda yummylicious!

My boyfriend and I came to dinner here after buying the groupon. THe food was whatever and the prices were slightly too expensive. I ordered the steak, and it was extremely fatty, but it was still good. The rice that came on the side was tasteless, the salad was fine, and the fries were soggy. My boyfriend ordered the seafood paella, and he said it was pretty plain and it was just«okay.» The reason I gave DX2 stars instead of 3 was because of the service. Our waitress was fine, but the owner of the restaurant was too overly attentive. He came by every 5 minutes and would awkwardly ask us if we liked the food and if we wanted anything else. It was impossible to focus on my food, or the conversation I was having with me boy because this guy kept coming over to ask us questions. It was literally too too much. I would probably never be back, especially since the main reason I went there was because of the groupon.

Reading the favorable reviews left by Unilocalers and my Unilocal friends, I was so excited to buy the Unilocal Deal of the Day a few months ago. My sister and I both were free, so we headed there for dinner last night. Let’s say, it was a miserable time. It started off nicely with a nice gentleman greeting us and taking us to our seat, but then it went downhill from there. The waitress was nice, but wasn’t very attentive, and didn’t come around a lot. We didn’t know what we wanted, so we told her to give us a few minutes, but those«few» minutes turned into more than a few minutes. At this point, I was agitated and finally waved her down to take our order. We ordered 2 empanadas, chicken and beef, lomo saltado, arroz con pollo, and ceviche mixto. I also ordered the passion fruit drink that started with M. The food was pretty blah and wasn’t that impressive. The lomo saltado tasted like bo luc lac, just the meat was sliced thinner, the rice bland, and the fries were lacking, meaning, not to many fries on there. The arroz con pollo, cilantro rice with chicken was like eating rice soaked in oil, not pleasant. It was the worst of the two. Ceviche mixto was just okay, nothing special, pretty typical. Worst thing was that I ordered two empanadas, and the waitress told me she would go check and see if they had any chicken or beef left. She didn’t even come back to tell me until I inquired when we were already eating our meal! We ended up with Spinach empanadas which weren’t so bad. I liked the crust of the empanadas, just not the sauce that goes along with it. The only saving grace was the Green sauce that they give at the beginning of the meal with bread. That was the best thing we had there, seriously… couldn’t get enough of that. Also, this episode irked me where the credit card machine went down and there were still many diners still eating. Seriously, who carries cash these days? In times like these, they need to get the manual credit card swiper, just in case of a power outage. I was so disappointed with the service, the credit card thing, and the food.

Pros: Lomo saltado Cons: Long wait on Fridays, a little pricey 3.5 stars Kristin C. got a deal on Groupon for this place so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, it seemed like everyone else got the Groupon deal too. On a Friday night, we ended up waiting 40 – 50 minutes for a table for 4. Besides the wait though, the food here is excellent. I ended up getting«Tacu Tacu con Bistek»($ 17.95) which was a steak served with plantains, rice, beans, and an egg. Kristin C. got the«Lomo Saltado»($ 14.95) which is fries, rice, and pieces of steak. Very tasty. The prices are a little higher than other Peruvian restaurants I’ve been too, but the food here is still pretty good. Overall, worth checking out, but if you’re short on time on the weekend, you might to look for something else.

I bought the Unilocal deal and took my bf and brother to eat here this past weekend. The waitress was friendly and brought out water and a basket of bread with the green sauce. I have to say, I was disappointed in the green sauce. It was lacking in spice and the BAM factor I was so hoping for that I get from Marios in LA. =( Ordered Yucca a la Huancaina, Lomo Saltado, Tallarin Saltado with Chicken, and Arroz con Mariscos(Seafood Paella). The food came out quick, steaming and delicious looking. Servings are a lot smaller than other peruvian places and quite a bit more expensive, especially since we ordered from the dinner/weekend menu, but everything was delicious. Yucca a la Huancaina-3.5 stars. It was basically big potato slices covered in a cheese sauce. The yucca was crispy and the cheese sauce was a nice compliment. It was creamy yet light and mild in taste so it wasn’t overpowering Lomo Saltado-4 stars. The filet mignon pieces were delicious. Very thick, juicy and tender meat with tons of onions, tomatoes and fries. Tallarin Saltado with Chicken-4 stars. It is basically spaghetti with chicken, garlic, tomatoes cooked in a light soy sauce. The noodles were delicious and the chicken was juicy which is a feat for most places. Seafood Paella-3 stars. Although, this dish was tasty, it lacked in the seafood aspect. There were a whopping total of 3 mussels and scattered pieces of other seafood but it was so minimal that I can hardly remember what else was in it. Overall, great tasting food with good service. Come by and check this place out for yourself, but maybe look out for a coupon because it’ll cost you.

Finally!!! Groupon has not steered me wrong this time!!! This place is legit! Started with the calamari– light and crispy pieces of yumminess. I liked the addition of corn nuts to give it another texture and dimension to the dish. The lomo saltado was delish! It can be described as a Peruvian version of Vietnamese Shaking Beef. Stir fried beef slices with veggies and rice, peruvian twist is the addition of french fries! MMmmm! The paella was good as well. A HUGE portion. Service was nice and the owner was apologetic that their A/C wasn’t working and flies were swarming in the restaurant. Kind of gross but we dealt with it. 4 stars.

Conveniently located just across South Coast Plaza almost next door to Thaso’s Greek Island Grill(which I still need to try). I thought it was kind of odd that there was only one party there when we walked in at peak dinner time. The staff was less than enthusiastic and the ambience was very dim and quiet. Almost depressing if you ask me. Why would anyone want to eat there?! We were immediately given the bread with the spicy green sauce. Dx makes the green sauce with a bit more of the spicy kick than Renzo’s and the consistency is a lot chunkier and thicker. I prefer it this way because it makes it easier for picking up more of the sauce! The lomo saltado was very flavorful packed with thick slices of beef, fries and purple onions. Some of the fries were burnt to a crisp but the rest were mostly greasy. It was my friend’s first time eating Peruvian food and out of all the dishes we ordered, she said this was her favorite. The residual soup/sauce went perfectly well with the white rice. Unfortunately, we ate up all of the meat because it was so good so I was left with eating the rice and the sauce. The chicken fried rice was a bit of a disappointment. Nothing special and overly greasy. The amount of chicken included in the rice was pretty sad but we had to all suck it up and eat it! The portion was very generous though. The tallarin de mariscos was probably my favorite dish for the night only because I love seafood. They don’t skimp on the expensive stuff for this dish. You get scallop, mussel and big pieces of shrimp. Pair that with their yummy sauce and pasta made al dente makes my tummy very satisfied. Overall experience was decent. Seeing as how there are plenty of other Peruvian choices in the area, Dx has fallen way down on my preference list.

CEVICHEDEPESCADO Very very good. I like just getting the ceviche as my meal after working out. It’s healthy, filling, and so tangy. The fish is very flavorful and soft and comes in huge chunks. The limes are amazing and they use a lot of onions, but it doesn’t overpower the fish. The best is the Peruvian corn nuts. I ask for extra because i like having some in each bite. This is my favorite dish here. CHOROS A LACHALACA — STEAMEDMUSSELS I’ve never had this before, but the mussels are amazing. It’s like the ceviche, but they keep the shell on. Comes on a plate with about 8 large mussels, filled with lime juice, tomatoes, chopped onions, and corn. Amazing appetizer dish. We each ordered an appetizer as a meal because its quite large. EMPANADAS I like the Argentinian empanadas better on Harbor. Here, they have beef, chicken, and spinach. The outside pastry is good. We got a spinach and a beef. My friend loved her beef one, and i thought the spinach was pretty good… but not the best. You get 2 for $ 5, not a bad price.

So we found this place on a rainy sat. night, no wait & very close to S. coast. Walked right in & was seated immediately. The bread & green sauce is awesome!!! I don’t remember the name she said for the green sauce but it had a good kick & was delicious!!! She even gave us a little to go thing of it! Soo good. We got the Ceviche de Pescado $ 10 which had tons of fish!!! The little fried corn pieces were a nice touch. It’s basically all fish on top of lettuce w/onions and corn pieces. Very good portion and good as well. For the main course we got Filet Mignon*Lomo Saltado*(Steak)…$ 13 which we saw had the most review. It was very good. Lots of meat and w/the sauté tomatoes, onions & fries were an interesting combo. It could have used a little kick but it was good! We enjoyed everything we got & would go back! Service was good and everyone was friendly too.
