1329 Salon and Spa

This was my first time ever getting my hair colored and I am also new to Santa Barbara as well. I was so anxious and worried about dying my hair a different color especially given that I am half Asian/​half white with dark brown hair. So I knew going in I didn’t want anything blonde, but I wanted lighter shades of brown. Sammi trimmed and colored my hair. She knows so much about hair and the unique style each individual may want. Sammi told me that just by taking a look at my eye color, eyebrows, skin tone, etc. that she knew right away the perfect color for me. She mixed a light chocolate color with a caramel color and I honestly could not be happier. I’ve been to many nice extravagant salons in San Francisco or even the suburbs of the Bay Area… and no salon can compare to 1329 Salon & Spa. I am also a complete perfectionist and always find something wrong with even the slightest of a trim. However, I’ve never been so satisfied my entire life with my hair because of Sammi. I feel more confident than ever. Sammi is so sweet, welcoming, and truly amazing!

I have to agree with all the other great reviews. I am new in town and was so fortunate to find these Unilocal reviews — I had no idea how I was going to find a new hair stylist. Sammy is definitely an expert and I was thrilled with how wonderful my hair looked after my appointment. Great color, great cut, and great style! Probably not the place to go if you are in a rush… good stylists are in high demand and typically double book to squeeze one client in while another is processing. Even better is that I can also get a manicure upstairs! One stop for everything… so perfect!

Waited 20 minutes for a pre-​booked appointment, and it looks like I’d be waiting much longer before we got started. Based on previous reviews, I’m not the only one to experience this problem. If you need a hair cut at the time you’ve requested it to be cut, this is not the place for you.

Sammi does it again. A shorter, blunter cut and a cooler blonde. Exactly what I wanted, exactly what I got. Thank you Sammi and Emylee!

I usually get my hair styled and colored at 901 in LA so I was nervous to try a new place. I was recommended to make an appointment with Sami at this salon by a friend and ended up loving the results! Sami is an excellent hairstylist! She listens and makes you feel comfortable before beginning your hairstyling. I needed more than a trim so I asked for long layers. I left the salon completely satisfied! I cannot wait to go back to get blonde highlights and another cut. :)

A friend of mine spoke highly of Sammy and I decide to give it a try. I always want to go a bit ash or blonde but I never have the guts to do so since it is always hard for me to find the perfect hair stylist. However, Sammy really is amazing. She is brutally honest, she told me straight ahead that she will not able to produce the same effect from the picture I showed her. What amazes me the most is that most of the stylists would tell you that they can do it, but Sammy told me that she cares about my hair even if that means she wont be making” big money” from my make over.
Anyways, I fall in love with my new look. My hair can be a bit dry but it is definitely not overly damaged. But it does take more time for me to get ready for work since I tend to stare at the mirror and appreciate my new hair color for a few extra minutes (definitely boost my self-​esteem…)
Give Sammy a try, she is honest and truly cares about your hair.

I did not enjoy my experience here whatsoever. I had called to make an appointment, but I still had to wait 45 minutes before I even sat in the chair. Probably the reason for the long wait was because there was only one woman cutting hair for the five people in the chairs. I don’t know why they wouldn’t hire a few actual hair stylists, although they had plenty of girls working the front desk. They were even the ones to wash and blow dry my hair (which was her holding the blow dryer at my head without moving or brushing my hair at all).
Not only was I not getting the attention I expected for the price I was paying, my hair did not turn out AT ALL how I requested. My hair was lopsided, but the cut was not the worst part. I had asked for balayage coloring, but what I got was overly-​bleached and very obviously incorrect highlights.
I will NOT be returning to this salon, and do not recommend it to anyone who wants a salon visit that takes less than 5 hours for sub-​par results.

This salon is amazing!!! Sammi is the best hairstylist I have ever been to. She always does the most amazing color and it always exceeds my expectations! She truly cares about your hair and takes her time with each client. I would recommend this salon and spa to anyone looking for a place to get an amazing haircolor/​haircut! They even do massage and nails too!

If I could post a less than 1 star review, I would! Sammi absolutely ruined my beautiful curly hair with gray highlights – the opposite of what I wanted! Even showed her photos & explicit about a blonde highlight, she left my foils in way 2 long (55 minutes) without ever checking them. She was too busy cutting another client’s hair. My mistake: never look at just first several reviews – look at ALL of them. Seems she did the same thing to other customers too! Beware curly hair brown with some gray gals – she will turn you gray in less than an hour! Evil, especially when she remarks that your beautiful curls are not beautiful, but too ethnic for her. Shame shame shame. She thinks she rectified it by refunding my overpriced highlighting job. Steer clear of this uncreative name of a salon. You’ve been warned.

Karen… she is a mystical hair mistress, a dynamic cross between a magician and a hair-​ygodmother. Seriously, I walk in with my hair looking depressingly like Tom Hanks’ hair in castaway before be leaves the island and I leave with my hair looking like I just won an Oscar for a movie called Girl with World’s Best Hair.
She used to work at a salon in LA and now SB is so lucky to have scooped her up. I just got my hair colored and I am just in awe, I honestly never imagined my hair could look like this, it is so so beautiful. I am also a bit anxious when it comes to my hair and Karen always makes me super comfortable. My boyfriend goes here too and we LOVE how she cuts his hair. There really isn’t anything Karen can’t do!

Larry took very good care of us yesterday! We had 2 couples massages. Salon great location in Santa Barbara!

I can’t stop raving over this salon. I found Sammi on Unilocal and saw nothing but great reviews, so I figured why not give her a try… So glad I did because she is the most fantastic, amazing, talented hair dresser in SB. Not only can she give one amazing haircut, but her coloring skills are crazy good out of this world. She’s also very personable & will totally listen to what you want. Ladies and gents, if you’re in need of a good cut and color… Look no further because Sammi is UHMAZZZINGGG at what she does! Never going anywhere else :)

I’ve never left a Unilocal review before, despite being an avid Unilocal user, but I decided it necessary to let those interested that Karen is the best hair stylist you’ll find anywhere. Highly recommend! She’s very nice. The women working here are goddesses; Karen’s no exception.

Sammi is amazing. I moved to SB a few months ago and was nervous trusting someone new to my hair. The first time I was there she took the time to understand what I wanted and explained everything she was going to do before she did it. My color had been previously botched and she was realistic about what she could do in one session and what to except. Needless to say my hair came out great.
Sammi is also very transparent about the maintenance your hair will need once you leave the salon. Knowing I didn’t want high maintenance hair she cuts it in such a way I can just blow it out and go without any additional styling when I’m home.
I’ve been to Sammi about 5 times since then and I completely trust her. I never loved my hair when leaving a salon and the weeks after but now with Sammi I do!
Highly recommend this place!

Sammi is a genius. She reads my mind and I leave with hair that I didn’t even know how to ask for!
The salon is chic, yet comfortable. Everyone is nice and there are also nail and massage services there. Prices reasonable.
I won’t go anywhere else!

Sammi is awesome! I was scared to go lighter and blonde, but she was really patient and comforting. I am very satisfied with my hair and it’s pretty healthy. One of the best hair stylists I have ever been to! Definitely would recommend~Sammi is super nice and informs you about your hair and how to take care of it after. Amazing service and great experience.

I finally found a home for my hair! The service you get here is exceptional, I booked an appointment with Sammi and she is a master-​did an amazing job with the balayage technique! Their hair products are top quality and you get a salon world class experience, highly recommend this salon.

Best hair salon experience ever!
I have asian hair so it’s really hard to get cool tone blonde hair because of my brassy undertones but Sammi did a wonderful job with my cool tone ombré/​balayage! I am more than happy with it and would recommend Sammie to anyone and everyone

Larry is an amazing massage therapist! I’ve been searching for someone who is great at their craft and makes you feel comfortable. He is intuitive and applies the correct pressure and finds tense muscles. In my sessions Larry has helped identify areas where other masseuses have overlooked, or not had the knowledge to
address. He is very professional, but above all, Larry takes a very personal approach to ensuring that you are satisfied with his work. I will be back!

I’m so happy I found Sammi! I came in today for a cut and color– it had been 6 months since my last cut and color, so it was time. I recently moved to Santa Barbara and was looking for a new salon. I don’t trust just anyone with my hair, so thanks to the other great reviews on Unilocal,I decided to give 1329 a try and I’m SO glad I did! There were several factors that made my experience so wonderful.
Frist, Sammi texted me the day before letting me know that she was looking forward to meeting me and that she reserved me a parking spot. This made me feel so welcomed!
Second, the salon is gorgeous and the staff is amazing. I was offered a beverage the moment I walked in and taken to the chair promptly. Sammi came over and took several minutes listening to what I wanted and looked through the photos I brought her. She explained everything she was going to do with my hair ahead of time and made me feel welcomed to tell her at anytime during my appointment if I wanted something different. Her assistant, Lindsey was also amazing. She gave me THE best shampoo and did a wonderful job with my blow dry.
Third, the time spent was completely appropriate. I have been to other high-​end salons where my cut and color has taken 5+ hours. I was in and out in 2.5 hours.
Sammi is a talented artist, who has trained among the top stylists in the world. She takes great pride in helping her clients create a hair style that brings out their unique beauty. I will certainly be back!
