ADULTBEVERAGESANDLIVEENTERTAINMENTINTHEBEAUTIFULOUTDOORS BACKGROUND: The building in which our restaurant has been once home to the El Nido Hotel & Busy Bee Café. The hotel opened its doors in 1936& primarily catered to fisherman, railroad workers, locals & travelers. Seventy-five years later new life was brought to the building and Bay Roadhouse Bar & Grill has made a commitment to serving delicious, high quality food at fair prices to hungry locals and travelers alike ever since. Centrally located right on State St. in the popular area known as The Funk Zone, and just a couple blocks from the beach, we are easily reached from anywhere in town. Surrounded by local wineries and just across from the historic Santa Barbara train station we are perfectly placed for those in town just for the day, or for those who have been here for years. Enjoy a varied selection of food and drink served with a great attitude. And with indoor and outdoor seating, fireplaces, TV’s, a kid’s menu, free corkage, and PARKING!!-there is something for everyone. STATS: Open 11 a.m. — 10 p.m. Indoor & outdoor seating Live music The About page of the website needs some work EXPERIENCE: After saying farewell to The Crew at the train station across the street, a friend and local invited me to hang out for a while. We started out here at Bay Roadhouse where we met up with a couple mutual friends. Sitting outside enjoying the perfect warm with a slightly cool ocean breeze we enjoyed some brew and live music. They don’t have a wide selection of adult beverages, but they are reasonably priced and we all found something that satisfied our palate. Our server was tentative and kept our water and other glasses full. This is a perfect spot for track travelers to stop after a train ride from where ever it is they came from, as well as waiting for their ride out of town Not to mention, it’s beach and pier adjacent. Also, it marks the start or end of the infamous State Street.

Horrible service and tough steak made for an unremarkable experience. Meat was way underdone and the accompanying rice pilaf lacked flavor and had clearly been cooked hours before it was served. On the up side, the wine selection was reasonable and the glass was full.

Like other reviewer’s i don’t get the minimal star reviews. Maybe i just hit a night when the stars aligned. My gorgeous wife and i were wondering around looking for a place to eat in the Funk district and passed on a number of places because the vibe wasn’t right. By happenstance we stumbled into Bay Roadside and despite the poor Unilocal reviews we stayed because it felt right. The Chargers were on the big screen getting the ass beat, beer was on tap and the grill was open. What could go wrong? Nothing, that’s what. Wifey had the Summerland salad and i had the Shrimp taco’s. Both FANTASTIC! Being from San Diego i know my tacos and i know when a Chef loves his craft and puts his heart and soul into his food. These were amazing and the salsa was extra awesome. The Summerland salad was a favorite of the Waitress(always a good sign) and Wifey said it was fresh, crisp and yummy. Happy Wife, happy life. Great service topped off the great evening, hence the 5 stars. Sometimes you just have to blow off Unilocal and takes a chance. We are glad we did.

I don’t get the 1 star reviews. And I’m glad it’s right by the train tracks– perfect spot to hoist a few while waiting for the train back to SD! Santa Barbara reminds me of downtown La Jolla; stuffy when it really shouldn’t be. It’s a college town by the beach. Lighten up already. Bay RH was an oasis for us. Not wanting to eat a microwaved burger on the train, Bay RH offered super strong drinks, very fast and attentive service and good prices. 100 yards from the train station, this is the spot if your Amtraking it. WHENYOUGO– the focaccia chicken BLT is a star. Lots of TV’s, full bar and good oysters. I’m ready to catch the train north right now!

Me and my friends came here on Sunday and we were there for a total of 10 minutes. We’re not from the area so we stopped in because it’s close to the beach. We walked in to be greeted by the bossy and unfriendly bar tender woman. She basically yelled at us and told us to sit anywhere. We end up sitting outside where we had the horrible pleasure of 2 old hipsters playing whatever they called it music. I jumped on Unilocal and read reviews and wanted to leave. The entire menu didn’t seem appetizing and the prices left an even worse impression. Only positive that came from coming here was leaving and finding Barbarians down the street. I’m glad I didn’t eat here since the food that other patrons had didn’t look all that great.

On vacation in Santa Barbara recently, we asked our hotel for a recommendation for dinner. They told us about Bay Roadhouse. The food was terrible. I couldn’t even cut my steak. Really bad food and way overpriced. Did I mention they are right by the train tracks. We ate outside and the trains just kept coming.

Overpriced and low quality food. Need I say more? Ok, I will. I had fish tacos that were seriously the saltiest damn things I had ever tasted. Inedible. Having said that, this is a good place to go when you are hammered drunk and need crappy nachos.

My first time in Santa Barbara, we had the whole weekend planned out down to where we were going to eat. Hunger strikes and its 9pm where to go where to go? So we set out on foot in our going shoes(bad idea) so we end up at this bar… not busy at all… great have a snack and head back to the room! We had the norm burger and fries… pulled pork sliders and a side salad! Burger was a frozen patty with already placed grill marks on it… french fires we so soggy and floppy… not good at all Pulled pork sliders the buns were so hard i couldn’t even eat them side salad smothered in ranch Our waitress was super nice and super sweet but that was the only good thing about this place!!! The bathroom was NASTY alsekkkk

Nice outdoor patio but its filthy inside. Had a beer and wings. Gross on the wings. Frozen out of the bag then fried and served with old produce. Overcooked. Disappointment.

If there’s ever a reason not to return to a place it’s because of unreasonable prices and lack of quality. I purchased a ceviche appetizer which came in a small martini glass. I expect my onion, tomato, jalapeño and cilantro to be chopped into decently small and equal sizes, especially if they are charging $ 12 for a sample size. Also I’ve never had celery in a ceviche, which could have been interesting had they not made it the main ingredient. My ceviche was overflowing with celery. The prices were irrational, I was charged $ 12 for a small ceviche, meanwhile my friend got a good size flatbread for $ 10. That just doesn’t make sense to me. Would not recommend this place to a friend, nothing about this place was impressive.

Came here the other night to use a LivingSocial deal I had purchased after experiencing this place for a work event. The food is good and so are the drinks, but on this particular night the timing was off. I was happy that they acknowledged the timing was off and apologized. Makes me think this isn’t standard. The reason I say the timing was off was we were seated and ordered drinks. Those took quite a bit to get there. Then we ordered an appetizer — fried oysters, and two entrees. I got fish tacos and my boyfriend got the seared ahi tuna. In what seemed like a few minutes, the ahi tuna entrée came out. They came by later to say that my fish tacos would be out soon and that the fried oysters were coming out now. It was just odd for him to eat his entrée, then get the appetizer, then have my fish tacos. The server also didn’t know where to bring the food to, he was going to other tables asking if they ordered our food until we finally raised our hands. I got the feeling he wasn’t the typical server and maybe the busboy. Food was very good. Loved the fried oysters with the spicy sauce. My fish tacos were great and very large. The ahi tuna was great, and I loved the garlic mashed potatoes with them. Drinks were tasty — of the tropical variety. Overall I enjoyed the place, we were able to sit and look at all the old photos of Santa Barbara on the walls, and it was cozy by the fireplace. Like I said, I appreciate that they acknowledged the timing was off, or else I would assume that was normal. Probably just an off night. Would come back for the food.

This place is so underrated. My friend and I were passing by one day, and fish enterprise was closed, so we stopped by bay roadhouse! Let me tell you. This place was fantastic! Their clam chowder bread bowl was amazing, their calamari is on point, and their service is great. Extremely welcoming and accommodating, especially for large groups. They check on you consistently, and are very attentive. This place deserves more business! Love it! Did I mention the full bar? YEAH. Amaze.

The food was okay. The service was poor. The décor was uninspired. All I can say really is, «meh.» The ribs were fall off the bone tender and served Kansas City style. That was neat. The mashed potatoes were better than what I can make at home. The guacamole burger oddly was missing guacamole, and was prepared well done. That wasn’t so neat. Our drinks arrived in that state between cold and warm. That wasn’t so neat either. Meh.

My friends and I couldn’t get a reservation in any nice restaurant, and after walking for a while, we finally decided to just eat at the first restaurant that was open and could take us. Now comes Bay Roadhouse Bar and Grill. The food was decent, definitely bar food. It was nice to sit out on the patio, they had live music playing. Overall fine experience, the food was priced right. I wouldn’t come back and I wouldn’t recommend this place, but if you’re hungry, this isn’t terrible. We had: clam chowder — ok fish tacos — the rice that came with it was delicious calamari — wouldn’t recommend jambalaya — ok french fries — good service — good

Went to Bay Roadhouse last Sunday for lunch. It’s conveniently located across the street from the Amtrak station and we were waiting on our train. We sat out on the awesome patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Our server Jennifer was fantastic. We were not sure what cocktail to order and she recommended the Tipsy Tiki(dark rum, pineapple juice, coconut rum, etc.) It was so delicious(and strong), so we ordered a second. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich for lunch which had fresh pico de gallo and avocado slices on top. My husband ordered the Focaccia Chicken BLT. We both loved our lunch and we will definitely go back next time we are in town. Thank you Jennifer:)
