Vons offers what they call the«Pick Three» meal in the deli The implication is that the meal is a deal for $ 6. It is not. In fact, it’s a rip off. Both Albertsons and Vons are now using a small 3 section box for this, with the“side“selections being a very small spoonful of the salads. You want potato wedges? You might get 5. And the deli people are just chock full of attitude over it. NO! You cannot have any more than what amounts to about 1⁄8 or less of a lb. for each side selection. Yes, you do receive 2 pieces of chicken. and at the LA Cumbre location its very good. But come on. I resent that they have essentially cut the portions in half, or worse, and keep up the lie that this is some sort of a deal. I finally figured out if I just buy everything seperately for the same about of money I get A LOT more food. Shame on you Vons and Albertsons.:( My trust in these stores has really taken a nose dive.

Well at least its not Haggen. I felt it only fair to write a review for Vons as I have done for Haggen. Vons on State is like playing pacman. The isles are super crammed but the quality of seafood is there for sure. Got swordfish last Sunday and I have not had better. Have never done swordfish sushi but this piece would have worked just fine. No water mess in the bag because it was really fresh never frozen! I think that Vons has been pressing hard these past few months but they have not strayed away from their impossible store lay out and that is why I give them a 3. They have improved quality and I greatly appreciate that.

Believe me, I hate writing a scathing review, but I gotta call ‘em as I see ‘em. And this is over the course of several visits. I’d give this store zero stars if I could. Customer service, even on the most minute level, is a foreign concept here(except the bakery, they are very helpful). I came in today and was looking for refrigerated salsa. I asked a clerk working some product where it was. He pointed to his Vons badge(I wish I caught the name of the idiot) and said«I work liquor». Then he turned his back to me and muttered sarcastically«I wish I knew», and then went about his business. At least he could have either helped me find the product or ask another employee who MIGHT know where to find it. No, he didn’t give a shit! I can easily cite examples of attitudes of this kind throughout the store, but I don’t feel like writing a long review. The checkers are ok, but generally, the clerks on the sales floor are total D bags. I only go here because I don’t want to go to Haggen.

The store’s selection isn’t bad for its size, but the consistently poor service at their deli warrants a 2 star review. I’ve attempted to purchase a breakfast burrito here several times, and every time they have been out of potatoes. I have been able to purchase sandwiches, but they have been out of many of the advertised ingredients. The deli workers generally seem angry when bothered to fulfill the duties of their job.

Why is it so DARK? I was there at 9:30AM and felt unwelcome, as though I was shopping in overnight security lighting before they let in the public. I asked at the register why it was so dark and the cashier did not know. I went home and researched it online and found out that Vons had deliberately darkened its stores to add to the ambiance. I wrote a letter to the Von’s President indicating that creating the feeling in the customer that he/she is unwelcome was probably not their goal, but can bew the effect of shopping in this lighting. They sent me a gift card for $ 25 and promised to add more lumens. I was very impressed. I have not noticed a change in the lighting.

Meat Jackpot. I have said it before… I’m cheap. So, I head to Vons and immediately check the clearance area in their meat department. Some pretty amazing deals can be had here. Today was 3.5 pounds of 80⁄20 ground beef for $ 2.50…that’s about 70 cents a pound. Needless to say… it’s gonna be burgers tonight!

When i walked into this Vons i noticed that half of the lights in the store were shut off. It was so dark in the back it felt like a downtown alleyway after midnight. The store looked really gloomy I felt depressed as i was walking around looking for the things I needed to buy. I visited this Vons before and it was never like this. Must have been one of those days, anyway i only recommend you go here if you absolutely have to. Try Gelsons or Trader Joes instead they’re much better than this.

Vons La Cumbre, eh it’s alright. I prefer the Montecito or Carpinteria Vons. This location is within the La Cumbre Shopping Center where there are a lot of great stores and places to eat. Located very near the 101 freeway this is a quick stop in the beginning of SB. They have a nice floral section and the store is always clean. I have never had a killer wait here, I just prefer my local Vons locations.

I was shopping at this same store in the La Cumbre Plaza on State St on Sunday, April 29. The man who checked out my groceries, Anthony, wasn’t very friendly but oh well, I had other things on my mind, like my mom in Hospice care. I was making purchases for her. I paid for my groceries and he put them in bags but left them in a pile on the counter. He immediately turned to the next customer, a co-worker, who must have had a wild Saturday night because they were discussing her neck. I was mildly annoyed. I went around the counter to reach for my 3 bags and gallon of water. I couldn’t reach the handles so my groceries were falling out of the bags and also tearing due to the crappy quality. ANTHONY, completely disregarded my struggles. Apparently Deli girl was more interesting. Finally, frustrated I started grabbing my items one at a time and started throwing them in my cart. What a frickin jerk ANTHONY!

Everyone deserves a second chance, eh? Anyways, the staff here were helpful & friendly while my family and I visited here to stock up for the pre-thanksgiving crunch. Thanks, Vons in La Cumbre(if you have time while you’re there check out the chi-chi shops in the mall. Coach, Louis Vuitton, Williams Sonoma, BCBG etc. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Tiffany… the list goes on and on(I guess SB can support it.)?

I have always liked shopping at Von’s grocery stores… but after a recent trip to to a Von’s in Santa Barbara, I am in the process of re-evaluating my opinion. This particular Von’s is dirty on the inside and out, the clerk was dis-interested in providing any kind of common courtesy like«Hi, how are you?» or «You look like shit, but have a nice day»…I am rambling a bit, but I have come to expect a much higher level of friendliness when I shop at a grocery than I received at this Von’s. Moreover, when the clerk did speak to me, he only asked if I had a Von’s card and I said no. Later, I realized that I lost out on a couple of dollars of discounts if I had the Von’s card… but the clerk never bothered to remind me to fill out an application so I could save some money. I know… it was my responsibility to ask for a card, but… this is what clerks do all day long… I would have thought it would have been on their mind much more than on mine… oh well… so when in Santa Barbara, avoid the Von’s on State street… you can do a lot better going somewhere else.
