Most amazing food served by 2 of the kindest chefs I have ever interacted with. Never was I dissapointed by any Hoshi’s food. If you did not get the chance to try before he moved I am truly sorry. I love Hoshi!!!

This food truck use to go to my company, but they recent stopped coming here. This food truck is always packed and their sashimi donburi is around $ 9 – 11, which isn’t that bad for the type of sashimi you get.

Amazing! This is the REALDEAL. The fish is very fresh, as good as you’d get in Japan, and the sushi rice is warm, just as it should be. I haven’t had cold sashimi on warm rice since the last time I was in Japan. We also had the squid and agedashi tofu. Add the friendly fast service and you can’t beat Hoshi On the Go!

After trying Hoshi On The Go at a Unilocal Event, I knew I wanted to return to eat more of their food. Luckily, Hoshi hangs out in front of the hard-to-find Hermitage Brewery Thursday through Sunday which enables you to have beer with your Japanese food providing you’re at least 21 years old. Look at my pictures to see the exotic looking Fried Ika(squid) which is 3 small pieces of squid served with hot sauce and a bit of salad + dressing. The Okonomiyaki French Fries is so named because of the topping: special sauce, mayo, seaweed, bonito flakes) on the fries. The Hamachi Don comes with 5 pieces of sliced hamachi over a generous amount of rice and a bit of seaweed salad and pickled sliced ginger. The salmon skin hand rolls at $ 2 each were tasty, but difficult to eat due to the seaweed so I probably won’t order that again. The guy in the truck personally delivers the food to you and takes credit cards! Hoshi and Hermitage are definitely a match made in San Jose.

Hoshi’s truck was a very pleasant surprising when I visited Hermitage Brewing. It looked decent enough from the exterior, but as I was ordering a beer the man behind the bar recommended the«kickass Japanese food.» It has the breadth and quality that beats most Japanese restaurants with food truck pricing. Most of the dishes are under $ 10, with an average price around $ 5 – 6. As other reviewers noted, Hoshi-san used to own a restaurant and that clearly shows. For my order I tried the Mentaiko spaghetti, with agedashi tofu and fried ray fin. Agedashi tofu came with good sizable pieces, and the ray fin had a great crisp bite with just enough meat to round it out. Frankly, the spaghetti is a steal for $ 7 — you get a lot of great tasting fusion flavors at once. It beats a lot of traditional pasta dishes I’ve had, which is kind of sad on their part. Nothing beats great seasoning and even greater prices. Plus, the sense of hospitality I received from this truck was easily around the highest I’ve ever seen. Hoshi is such a welcoming guy behind the window, plus he personally comes out to serve you your food on a tray. Who gets table service from a truck?! From what I talked to with the Hermitage guys, Hoshi arranged a deal to be at Hermitage pretty often. Which is great, because I definitely want to try more of his awesome Japanese eats soon.

TLDR; Fresh, delicious, authentic(Japanese chef), well-priced Japanese food from a food truck. Sugoi! Let me preface by saying that I used to be a somewhat regular customer at the actual Hoshi restaurant before it closed. After it closed, I wondered what Hoshi-san was up to. Fast forward to today, I was getting ready to walk thru El Nino round 1 from my office(Toshiba) and right outside is this Hoshi truck. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until Hoshi-san poked his head out. Huzzzzah! Food: The menu is, imo, quite extensive for a japanese food truck. there’s dons(donburi and the like), curry, typical japanese appetizers like croquettes/kaarage, and fusion(OKONOMIYAKIFRENCHFRIES!!!). There are a wide range of rice bowls with fresh sashimi, from Hamachi to Negitoro. One of the hallmarks of the Hoshi restaurant in Santa Clara was how delicious/fresh their fish is. This does not disappoint. ANDITSFROM A FOODTRUCK. I ordered the katsu curry, a winter time staple, and a spicy tuna handroll. I could spend another 500 words describing the flavors but will say: HALLELUJAH. MC Umami just did umami time on my taste buds. The portions are good sized, I’m pretty stuffed. Authenticity: Most of my japanese colleagues came outside to order food. This was similar but better than the bentos/bowls I’ve had outside offices in Tokyo. If you crave the real thing, and not a non-Japanese-ized appropriation: Find the truck. Flock to it. Follow it. Enjoy.

Really good Japanese food… some authentic dishes and some fusion thrown in for fun. Plus the truck is operated by really nice people! They helped out at a recent event and all the dishes were well received. We all shared some Takoyaki, French Fries Okonomiyaki Style, Chicken Karaage, & Edamame. And I downed my own plate of Spicy Cod Roe Spaghetti. Sounds weird and different, and it is. But it’s also quite delicious. I wouldn’t have ordered it until someone raved to me about it. Glad they did. So now I’m raving about it. Try it. Trust me.
