The food was not we were expecting and it was not worth what we thought of. In fact they do not have much options for vegetarian and something like bhindi masala was worst i had in the history so far. I would recommend try something else. Also, the time to get food is something you can only manage on weekend.

They give you large portions. The ambiance is excellent. It’s a bit over priced.

I am used to spicy food, but the food here comes in mirchi paste. Should have asked for refund from the restaurant.

Came here for a company luncheon. It definitely can accommodate large groups of people, esp since the lunch is buffet style. There’s a good number of selections, with a lot of the traditional Indian foods as well as a few items on the vegetarian section(like about 3 – 4 items when I went). It’s pretty pricey for lunch, though. The ambiance is on the higher end, so that’s what you’re paying for too.

Disappointed in the quality of the food. The food does not seem fresh compared to some of the other buffet places(Royal Taj — $ 7.95/Sitar Express — $ 8.95) in the Valley. The veggie dishes were fine. The butter chicken was overcooked and very small chunks of chicken. Mango pudding was overly acidic, and was not very pleasing to the palate. For $ 11.95, I would recommend Royal Taj over India Gate, there’s no comparison.

Ate here with a friend and was actually pleasantly surprised by the food. We were a little late eating and the place was Practically empty so we did not know what to expect. We ordered the butter chicken and a lamb dish with rice and naan. The Butter chicken was pretty good but the lamb stole the show! Whatever sauce they put on it was amazing. It was a little mustardy tasting but it complemented the lamb wonderfully. Great little find!

I decided to come here with my family after hearing so many great things about the food(and the awesome level of spiciness) from when my family came here a few weeks ago. Needless to say, the food was quite delicious. I always love when Indian dishes are prepared in different tasting curries, because that’s how it should be. If I were only rating the food, I would give it a 5⁄5. We ordered palak paneer(my staple), bengan bharta, and vegetable dum biriyani– all were spicy and delicious, and I especially loved the biriyani. However, the waiters in a restaurant can make or break it for me, and, unfortunately, India Gate didn’t stand up to par regarding their service– I would give them a 2.5÷5 for service. When we entered, the waitress quietly led us to our table without saying a word, and again after we thanked her for the water she quietly walked away without reciprocating our thanks. What bothered me the most, however, was that when we asked her to pack our food, she didn’t pack the remaining biriyani we had left and instead threw it out! We didn’t even know because she took it all in the back to pack it up. It was not only frustrating that she wasn’t friendly or reciprocal regarding etiquette, but also that she threw away our food and that we had to pay her an 18% gratuity charge because we were using a gift certificate. Please teach your waiters to have better etiquette when interacting with customers, because we are the reason your business is running. Would I come back here? Probably only for pick up.

Being a huge fan of Amber India, I wanted to try to find new indian places that were closer to my new home in San Jose. The reviews here were mixed, but a few people raved about the butter chicken, so I figured it was worth a try. India Gate is one of the nicest looking indian restaurants you’ll find. It’s huge, making me wonder how they’d ever come close to even filling half the place up. And that’s not including the huge private rooms upstairs with the dance floor and disco ball. The first problem was when I got my water. The glass had specks of black on it that I scratched off with my fingernail. The water was close to room temperature. Okay, whatever, it’s just the water. I ordered a coke. I also got the butter chicken and onion kulcha. I’m a huge fan of Chicken Tikka Masala but the menu specifically pointed out the butter chicken as a specialty so I figured it’s probably similar enough, I’ll get it. The sauce was creamy, but not sweet at all as I was used to at my favorite places. If you don’t like sweeter butter chicken, maybe you’d love it. I didn’t. To make matters worse, the pieces of chicken were not particularly high quality. I frequently had unchewable bits of miscellany that I had to spit out, which I know is horribly impolite, so I just used my fancy napkin. The onion kulcha? Well, perhaps it would have been good, if it wasn’t completely overloaded with cilantro on the inside(which I hate). Sure, I didn’t ask them if it had cilantro, so I can’t really complain, but this had more cilantro than I’ve ever seen in kulcha. It was almost solid green inside. Seriously? In spite of the fact that I hadn’t eaten all day and was starving, I ate one piece of onion kulcha and less than half my butter chicken. I gave the rest to my less-picky dining partner, who would eat a shoe if you prepared it to look good. The good? It’s a nice looking place with friendly people. Sadly, that’s pretty much all the good. I cannot fathom how anyone would say this place has«the best» butter chicken. I’ve honestly had comparable quality at fast food indian joints, if not better. Next time I’m craving indian food, I’m not taking any chances.

UPDATE: I got to go to the lunch buffet finally and for the price they charge and the food that is available, it is practically a steal Unlimited naan and other dishes such as: breaded potato, tandoori chicken, tika masala and so much more

Great place for an Indian lunch buffet if you are around San Jose or Santa Clara. I tried lunch buffet recently and it was pretty good. They don’t have a huge spread like many other Indian places but most of the meat and vegetable dishes they had were done well. I liked the chicken and lamb curry dishes. Nan’s(Indian bread) were done well. The Indian tea(Chai) was the best. This place is good for large groups and if you are planning an office party or a large get together I would recommend this place. And lastly the service was also very good.

I went at around 1PM for their lunch buffet. Food was good except for one thing: nothing really lightened up my taste buds. All the chicken dishes tasted the same. Not much flavor. No spices.

I’m a little disappointed that the buffet doesn’t have chicken tikka masala every day(cuz it’s sooooo good), but the butter chicken is also outstanding — probably the best I’ve had. The wait staff is attentive and the Naan is very good too.

I give this place 4 stars on the lunch buffet but 3 for dinner. The Buffet has lots of items and seem to have more flavor/spices then other Indian buffet i have had in the area. There are lots of options including a nice cucumber salad and some sort of chicken tikki masala or butter chicken. Dinner was decent as well but the service at night was awful. Place was not busy and took time to get seated and get orders. When the waiter was there he was very friendly and would try to inform us about different dishes. The problem is time. From the time we ordered it took over 30 min to get served. Now I can appreciate it being prepared fresh but there was only 2 ppl in the place. If it was crowded I don’t know when we would have gotten our food. Over all I do enjoy the lunch buffet and even though might be a little pricey it is worth it.

The buffet was not bad; I’ve had better Indian buffets, but I’ve also had worse. Could have used some more dessert items though. That’s really the whole point of a buffet, at least in my mind.

Went here for the buffet the other day as a part of my ‘Let’s see if I really don’t like Indian Food’ programme. I got there within 30 seconds of them opening and the entirety of my visit, I was the only customer. And do forgive the spelling as I have no idea… The place is nice and obviously it was initially intended to serve mostly as a dinner place. The layout is a lot like those fancified 1980s French places, actually. It was comfortable and the layout for the buffet was solid, though I could see it being problematic if the place was full of folks. The buffet is big, much bigger than the other Indian Buffets I’ve been to. There were most of the standards. I liked the potato pakora, as well as the spinach pakora. The spinach was especially nice and light. The rice wasn’t particularly well-done, as there was a bit of flakiness to it that was at least slightly annoying. The daal was pretty good, as were whatever the Chickpeas in sauce was called. I had two large servings of that. The greatest disappointment was the Paneer, which was in a very dull sauce and the cheese was kinda rubbery. That was a big let down after the lovely Paneer at Shiva’s. The Tandoori Chicken was really good. I’m not usually a fan of it, but here it was delightful. There was another Chicken Curry that I didn’t catch the name of that I really enjoyed. The mutton was only OK, which is a shame as I love Mutton and there aren’t a lot of places for me to get it. The deserts? well, I wasn’t a fan of the rice pudding thing, and there was a weak fruit salad. The naan that they brought to the table was fantastic. I seriously devoured it and they kindly brought me more! It was so delicious. All in all, a very good buffet, especially for the 10.95 price.

Overpriced and mediocre. There are so many better Indian places around, I can’t see why anybody would want to overspend at this place. The only item on the buffet that was OK were the chicken wings, other than that, eh! I would do the Sizzler on the corner, before coming back here.

It was Arthur’s restaurant two years ago. Same location now it’s India Gate. It’s right next to my hotel. It’s 6PM local time, but 8PM Austin time. I was starving. I walked in and asked for one table. The hostess was wondering if I can stand their loud music because they have a big party there. There are total 3 tables guests eating at non-party area. The party is an India graduation party. So many Indians dressed up for this party. I ordered mango lassi and watched the party. I ordered lamb with cashew creamy sauce. It tastes pretty good. I was calling Matt during the whole dinner time, so didn’t eat much. The waiter was worried and asked me if the food is right. It seems an authentic Indian food, at least a lot of customers are Indians. Only one thing bothered me they charged rice separately even I ordered entrée.

My wife and I were looking for an event venue and were turned onto India Gate by my mother in law. I had never heard of it but when we visited the place we were pleasantly surprised when we ordered the mutton curry, paneer tikka masala and a dal makhni. I’m a pretty big mutton curry snob, so I can really say this place has done a great job with it and I can’t wait to get back to try it again. We also really enjoyed the paneer tikka — which was joyously creamy and tasty. The dal makhni was pretty good too. I give star for actual nice ambiance at a indian restaurant and impeccable service from their staff. Kulwinder the manager takes a meticulous attention to customer satisfaction. Will be bringing my coworkers here next week for a lunch buffet so we can share in exploring more dishes on their menu. Will update my review after the lunch and my event to share more!

Nary a block away from the digs I’m in from 9 – 5. I walk here when I want to kill some time and load up the gut on the buffet. MAINREASON: Take-Out lunch Buffet! When I do it right I get about 3 days of lunches in those miraculous Styrofoam containers. Its $ 10 – 12. Can’t go wrong there, can you? They also give out Frequent Diner cards that get you 20%. Not sure how you get them other than showing up a lot. I got one my first visit, probably due in part to my natural ability to flirt awkwardly. I have no complaints about the food itself. Naan rocked, Dal was great, the Tikka Masala was average(not spicy enough for me). The Pakora and paneer were good. uhhh… I can’t recall what else I get, as it usually ends up in a giant mix in the takeout box. If you’re in the area, hit it up for lunch. If there is a better place, come pick me up and educate me.

I came here for dinner and was 20 minutes late because my iphone ran out of the battery so I lost the GPS… I eventually found the place but my friends were upset… But okay, you guys probably don’t care too much aba that… My first impression when I walked in … THEPLACEISHUGE … but there were no one inside … besides my friends… I became skeptica … was thinking to myself… either the food horrible… or it dies out on a Wednesday night. Surprisingly the food was better than i thought it would be… I got the chicken biryani… with garlic naan… The lambs were my tastier than the chickens… The garlic naan was my favorite, everyone should get that. Definitely better places somewhere… mMMm yum naan naan naan naan naaaan naaaaaan…
