Food is still consistent and fresh here. Note to owner or Martin: it’s time to clean the vents. It’s like a dust parade where the air vents are :)

I was introduced to Yan Can Bistro when I moved here a couple of years ago. It was my go-to place in the area for Asian cuisine. Over the last 18 months the quality of the food and service have slipped badly, as has their cleanliness(which was not great to begin with). Until management takes an interest in correcting their issues and getting the quality of the food back up where it should be I advise going elsewhere. Panda is a better option, more consistent quality at a lower price, or Ume(1st& Trimble).

This place was terrible. First of all the waitress gave my husband and I attitude when we came in as if we were bothering her. Then we ordered potstickers, pad thai and red curry with chicken. It was so gross we could not eat a second bite. We just left our plate uneaten and left the restaurant. This place needs to close down. It’s unacceptable. Im embarrassed for them.

Ugh! I hate it when I’m Hangry and then am further disappointed… it’s terribly sad:( So I order the kung pao chicken and there’s 1 table of 3 ahead of me. I take my number and grab a seat and wait. Single guy places order. Couple places order. 10 top places order. And then I wait. And wait. And wait. Everybody gets their order before me including some of the 10 top. I’m looking around trying to get someone’s attention and BINGO. Finally! I hear the expediter fire my order and it’s ready in less than five minutes! Well the euphoria did not last. Dry big chunks of white meat chicken and way too many water chestnuts. EPICFAIL! At $ 11.00 a plate this dish was not worthy it. Panda Express makes a better Kung pao chicken… seriously! Do not waste your money! Yan Can’t Bistro — is what the name should be.

I come here regularly for a late lunch. The Melaka curry chicken is my go-to dish. Love it. Co-workers have taken other dishes and they said they liked them too. Staff is friendly when you order at the counter. They had a special once, mapo tofu, that dish was a miss for me, it was too salty.

Had horrible experience! Their veggie szechuan dish was inedible. Old frozen veggies, over cooked dry tofu and greasy sauce… totally a turn off. Wonder why they call it Fresh Asian cooking. Will never ever go back. Waste of money.

This place used to be very good. I came here for lunch and the food was aweful and bland. There are better places to eat Asian food than this one. They just lost a customer.

Went here for lunch last Saturday, we ordered a chicken salad that looked and tasted as if it was saved from the night before, lettuce was wilted… This place gone down hill

Looking for a place to eat in the plaza before going to Safeway, I decided to give this place a chance. I really don’t like the fact that I had to order at the register first. It is more like a fast food place than a restaurant. Nothing on the menu sounded good to me so I went with Mongolian beefs with white rice. The rice were a little dry. Beefs were ok. Big portion. I could not finish half of my dish.

I would equate this to a sit down version of bad Chinese fast food. Singapore Tomato Shrimp: The shrimp didn’t taste fresh at all. The light coating to make the sauce stick just made it taste very stale. The rice was burnt and there weren’t any cups for water. Mango Beef: Burnt rice again here but the flavors were better than the shrimp. Still not something I’d go out of my way for but not terrible.

I came here for lunch on a weekday. The food was awesome and the service was good. We got the food minutes after ordering it. Good to have such service specially on a weekday when you need to rush back to office after a quick bite. The quantity served is good for the price. I will surely come back again here.

5 stars because this is the third time I have eaten here and it was consistent with quality. The Cashew Stir Fry Shrimp is my favorite and I highly recommend it

Chicken Teriyaki !! Worth the try. Little on the sweeter side. Beware, your tummy will stuffed. I had for lunch, good ambience. Relaxed.

Beurk! This place tastes like dog food. It’s overpriced and the portions are worse than any restaurant in the Bay Area. Why did Martin Yan put this restaurant here. There are better places to eat in the same shopping center. This place is rather far from any place that people live. I drove 20 minutes just to get here and it was a waste of gas as well. Martin Yan is good at making a TV show but this place is bad to all means. I have seen better food in Texas and other parts of the Bay Area that beat this. I no longer eat again here after using up a few gift certificates that I got last year. Again the portions are really dissatisfying for the human mouth but good for dogs due to the size of the plates. It could be worse by now. mAvoid this place at all means.

Ordered the beef noodle soup, was beyond disappointed when the server brought me a bowl of oil. The beef felt like it was over cooked– tough and lacked flavor. The broth felt very oily and lacked flavor. There were tons of chilis floating around, but It wasn’t even spicy. Very disappointing.

We got some take out from there tonight. Unbelievably awful. The chicken salad had huge pieces of barely cooked chicken, so we couldn’t even eat it. The garlic noodles we ordered were completely tasteless. The broth in the soup was the only thing with any taste. Unfortunately, everything in it was added late so it had no flavor at all. We used to dine in there a few years ago and it was pretty good. Then a whole new crew came in and the experience went downhill quickly. We stopped going at all for quite awhile. A few months ago I stopped in for some take out and it was actually ok. I thought this might be a good way to get around the lousy service. After tonight we are DONE. The food was so questionable, we ended up throwing it all out. Yuck!

I’ve been going to Yan Can Asian Bistro semi regularly for a few years now. I’ve only ever ordered one thing here. The Spicy Beef Noodle soup(Combination with Shrimp and Chicken). This dish is absolutely awesome. The beef, chicken and shrimp are always very tender and super flavorful and the broth is fantastic. ** I can’t say that this would be considered«Authentic» asian food from any particular country. But the dish that I’ve ordered has always been fresh and very tasty! Highly recommend!

Yan Can conjures up expectations of exceptional Asian food like the food he whips up on his TV program. Unfortunately, this food was just typical Americanized Asian food. My General Chan’s chicken is their version of the General Tsao’s chicken and was OK, but not remarkable. My grandkids shared a plate of orange chicken with brown rice and carrots. Again, this dish was just average. My daughter had the Garlic chicken dish which she stated was a little bland. The dining area was clean and the staff friendly. The only notable décor item was the three cute Asian teapots nestled into their own little niches. If I were blindfolded while eating, I would swear I was eating at a PF Chang’s chain restaurant. Not a bad thing, but not what I expected.

It’s just glorified Panda Express that isn’t as good… I’ve been twice(not by choice) and both times I’ve been underwhelmed. I would’ve said disappointed but the food exactly met my expectations. This food was heavy, oily, had no real vegetables to cut through it. This is exactly why there is a perception of Chinese food being crappy junk food in the American conscience. Anyway I think it’s mostly that there wasn’t vegetables and whatever little that there was was drenched in sauce so that whatever nutritional value there had been had been undone and more by sauce. The food was just not great(and I’m a secret fan of Panda Express). BOTTOMLINE I am really not a fan whatsoever of this place and I feel like this place is just really really terrible. I do not think that I would ever recommend this place to anyone.

Sorry but… Yan Can’t… Gross food and the chicken dishes(we ordered 3) barely had any chicken. Nice service though. Love, Chris and Shelby
