This is a old country style restaurant along Sierra hwy which has been used to for filming many a times. The servers are friendly and the service is good. I have eaten here many times. Today I had the Eggs Benedict with country pototoes. My food was great. My friend had Corned Beef Hash and eggs with hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy. He enjoyed everything however the biscuits and gravy was cold and sweet. Neither one of us liked it and the biscuit was not very good either. When we asked for salsa they gave us some warm stuff that did not taste bad however we like cold salsa. I say give this place a try for the most part it is pretty good. Just don’t order the biscuits n gravy… To me what makes a great breakfast place is the pototoes(good) Salsa(boo) and the biscuits and gravy(Not good). They have a lot to offer on the menu though and some very good dishes. Love the Iced tea too.

I had not been there before my visit last week. I dropped in with 31 fellow motorcycle riders on a Sunday. I called just and hour before arriving. They got us fixed up with a long table within minutes after arrival and they were packed. The service was tremendous and the food was great. In and out in an hour. I don’t know how they were able to pull it off and all with a smile. I will be back.

Found this place on our way up to Central California and it was a nice surprise. We had breakfast there and it was delicious! We arrived early and we were the only customers there but we were not disappointed with the quality of service and food. We will definitely be going back on our next trip out that way.

LOVE halfway house! Been coming here for years. My mom loved to bring us here because my sister and I didnt get any cell phone service so we would be forced to «have conversation». Best blueberry pancakes. Last time I went my friend got the Ruben and the corn beef was amazing. Its hard to find good corn beef. Had a bloody mary here and they make it with Sake and had a really nice kick to it. Highly suggested if you’re not in the mood for boring old IHOP or dont want to stand in line for 2 hours at other local spots

Came here for breakfast because we thought that the wait here would be shorter than going to Egg Plantation. However, when we arrived I think everyone had the same idea we did and there was a line out the door! Took about 20 minutes for a table of 2. We got seated right next to the bathroom which was kinda gross and busy and right underneath the TV so it was loud and hard to have a conversation. The waitress was very nice and speedy. I ordered a waffle and a bagel with cream cheese. Both are pretty hard to mess up. Waffle was pretty good. Bagel was standard. However my date got some kind of egg Florentine and he described it first as meh but later confided in me that it was just plain nasty, which was really disappointing! He ate one bite, pushed it around his plate and was done. But the real kicker is that the whole meal, without tip, cost us 30 bucks! Definitely won’t be coming back for standard/nasty food for that much money. +1 star, though, for the nice staff.

Only good thing about this place was they filmed Heart Break Ridge. Food sucks. It’s more or less a fake place that fills in selling food when not being used for filming. Mayor greasy comida(food). Only reason they have people is because they don’t know better and it’s the only place to eat near bye. Major disappointment. They just don’t have the heart of food. Keep driving to Ottos

It’s just an OK Café. Nothing special at all and for what you get the prices are considerably higher than other restaurants. I’ve eaten at little dive places and had better food for a lot less. Try the Waystation in Newhall it’s much better and compared to this place it’s a bargain.

I think I caught them on a off day… Stopped her with my son around 2pm and sat at counter. Both ordered vanilla shakes and I heard and saw the look of disgust when she said«okay but they take awhile», she obviously didn’t want to make them and promptly asked somebody else too do it, they were delicious by the way… I ordered a French dip and it was cold, dry and chewy and I barely ate half of it, The fries were good. My son said the bacon burger was good and he enjoyed the fries also. Great atmosphere in regards to the looks of the place. I will try it again but not the French dip, it seems like they might be more of a breakfast spot… 1 day later my son and I both have mud guts and the only thing in common yesterday was the shake here that she wasn’t happy to make us and makes me wonder if they did something to it…

The pork chop breakfast is wonderful. The staff is always friendly and quick to help. I also like the various photos of movies and tv shows that were filmed here at the location.

Ok, I’ve been come to Halfway House Café on and off for the past fifteen years, elven out of those fifteen years I was a nearby resident living in Agua Dulce. It was(and still is) on of my favorite breakfast and lunch joints to visit. The place is usually packed for breakfast, they have in my opinion one of the best tasting French Toast dishes in town! I’ve had my faire share of French Toast and this place make them real tasty! I’ve eaten other items of the menu and I’ve not been disappointed with any of my dishes placed in front of me. I don’t consider myself a food snob like some of my friends are, thankfully they are not on my friends list here. Even some of the food snobs I’ve been with here have really enjoyed this rustic countryside palace of a food joint. I say try everything on the menu once, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.

Half Way House is located in the middle of nowhere, which makes it an interesting place to visit. When you pull up to the building you feel like you just took a time machine back to the 1930’s. Aesthetically, its amazing to look at from the outside. There have been numerous movies and TV series that have filmed here since the 1960’s. Including recently the show Sons of Anarchy. As I walked into the diner I was approached by a young waitress and promptly taken to sit at a table. They have some TV’s up on the wall and a lot of old, funny signs all over the walls and ceiling. I ordered the eggs Benedict with french fries. As much as I love the outside of the Halfway House Café, the food does not match that love. It is simple, a quick and dirty breakfast dish. The french fries were okay, but they were a room temperature when they arrived instead of hot. Prices are average and portions are also average. I’m going to give Halfway House Café 4 stars because it is truly a unique experience to come here for breakfast and that makes it well worth the trip.

A great find in the middle of nowhere! It definitely has a country feel to it. The service is friendly and everybody seems to know everybody. :) I saw a lot of sandwiches being ordered, so I’ll have to try that next time. It’s just the typical diner type breakfast stop. solid food. I got pancakes and biscuit/gravy. While the gravy was good, the biscuit wasn’t as fresh and soft as I would have liked it… a little dense for my taste.

Stopped to eat here after playing paintball down the street. Typical diner food, nothing to write home about. I had the tuna melt and it had American Kraft-like cheese, which didn’t taste great to me. My husband had the buffalo burger and he was warned that the meat was very dry and it was. But my brother had the western burger and loved it. So it’s hit and miss. It’s a quaint diner with funny decorations and nice service. We’d swing by for breakfast if we were in the area, but I wouldn’t say it’s somewhere you go out of your way to visit.

My father has been eating at Halfway House Café since the 80’s. A few years back, we happened to be driving through the area so he introduced me to this charming little café. I instantly fell in love. Aside from the very obvious historic value, this café offers exceptional food and service every time I visit. The waitresses are always very nice and down-to-earth. I concur with the previous Unilocaler who described one of the waitresses as having a «tough girl» attitude. Anyone who has ever been here knows who this is and she’s great. The food definitely has more of a homemade vibe to it which is very fitting for this type of establishment. I usually stick to the lunch menu but I have had breakfast as well. The breakfast entrees are typically very generous. The lunch entrees, on the other hand, are usually average portions. That being said, it can get quite pricey depending on what you order. My favorite aspect is the atmosphere. I almost always sit at the bar, it’s just always been my preference. I feel as though you get attended to more often at the bar as well which is a plus. This is a popular location for various movies, TV shows and commercials. I have encountered film crews scoping out the café, making measurements, etc. for whatever they plan to film there. So there is always a chance you could witness something pretty exciting on your visit. Halfway House Café is one of the few places that I don’t mind going out of my way for. Great atmosphere, good food and even better people, I highly recommend checking this place out if you haven’t already.

First time here on a recommendation from a friend. This looks to be an historical road side diner and doesn’t disappoint. Our breakfast was definitely made with a home cooked flair. Not huge portions. Not inexpensive, either. But the owner, who served us, was friendly with a tough-girl attitude; fun to banter with. Three stars instead of four for the spartan atmosphere, the portions and the prices.

This place looks more like a movie set than a great lite hideaway in Canyon Country. This is a place you come to for good food and large portions. The people are great but the place was built in 1931 and still looks like it! The breakfast was great. I ordered eggs Benedict with a truckload of hash browns. Couldn’t believe I are most of it. Service is good but the servers are really hustling so don’t expect a warm conversation. They get the job done and they are friendly. I will definitely be coming back!

Located in the middle of nowhere on Sierra Highway in the very tip-top of Canyon Country sits the famous Half Way House. Appropriately named, this little western-style diner is half way between Lancaster and Downtown LA. It’s been utilized in countless film and television productions including Georgia Rule, Space Cowboys, Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny, King of Queens, Sons of Anarchy and many, many, many others. While I was working in the area for a couple weeks, a friend and I stopped in for an early breakfast(they open at 6am, seven days a week) before heading to set. It was a Monday morning, and we were surprisingly not the first people to show up. When I pulled off Sierra Hwy. there were several people sitting on the benches out front while waiting for the doors to open. Crazy! They obviously have some devoted fans! The interior is like a western saloon with a long bar/counter, vintage signs hanging on the walls, and a bunch of signed head shots from the celebs that have frequented the place over the years. It’s fun walking around and looking at all the historic photos of the local community as well! The menu has every breakfast favorite you could want. They have lots of pancakes, waffles, eggs, French toast, and all the sides like bacon, sausage, and hash browns. It’s truly a wonderland for the breakfast fans like me. I ended up getting two pancakes, two scrambled eggs, and two sausage links. The pancakes were amazingly fluffy and very tasty. Usually, I’m a waffle fan, but for some reason I had a craving for pancakes, and I loved these ones! The sausage and eggs were great too, but the real shock has how good the coffee was. It’s no secret that diner coffee is usually a toss-up, but I really liked the brew here and you can even purchase one of the souvenir mugs if you so wish! Even though we could have chosen to sit anywhere, we chose the counter simply because that’s where they shot Pick of Destiny. Since the place just opened when we got there, the super sweet waitress had plenty of time to talk with us and answer as many of our filming questions as she could. Next time I’m working in the area I’ll be sure to stop in for the pancakes again!
