Heard so much about this place for years and didn’t feel it. The food was adequate but not great. The place is a bit run down. The booth seats are worn out and it’s like you’re sitting on a bucket cause you go down and never come up. The service was slow but friendly and the décor is like a low budget 70’s movie. I will say that the prices are low and they have a pretty sizable parking lot so it passes the test in my book but I’m not too excited to go back.

Teach the cook how to make chicken fried steak it’s Not dipped in egg batter fools and hash browns shouldn’t be burned on the top black and the bottom raw. our waitress could have smiled once. nice old school look is why I left a star.

Enjoyed a hearty meal at a historic Santa Clarita Valley café. Good food, warm hospitable service and reasonable prices! My breakfast consisted of a short stack, hash browns, scrambled eggs, orange juice and a bottomless cup of joe. All reminiscent of a good old home cooked meal like mom makes. I look forward to my next visit.

I have lived in Santa Clarita for 6 years and came across this place on Groupon! It is by far my Go to place now. The food is excellent and made fresh, the staff are always friendly and the wait time on the weekends are always decent. I come here with my family and we always never pay too much for the 7 of us. Definetely one of the best Mom & Pop shops in SCV Special shout out to our waiter… Yessenia

Wow! What an historic LA area eatery like; Philippe, Musso & Frank Grill, The Pantry. But wait, at some 130 years up and running since 1886, Saugus Café out distances them all in Los Angeles County. And Friday, May 6th being my 61 birthday kind of makes me a bit historic as well. So with hunger hitting me pretty hard, after dropping my wife off for her bus to work, on approaching this fellow dinosaur. I decided to finally stop by for an early breakfast. I mean, I have been living in Saugus going on some 10 years now, so well overdue. Stepping through Saugus Café’s door is like stepping back in time. A friendly greeting put me right at ease, and with only 2 other patrons there were plenty of tables to choose from, and lots of counter space. Receiving a menu, I scanned it for maybe 15 minutes. I was also directed to the chalked in wall menu. I first ordered a cup of hot chocolate, then decided on the Country Fried Steak, with 2 Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns and the Small Stack of Pancakes(2). And some 20 minutes later, I was woofing it down! Classic diner breakfast comfort food. And no, I wasn’t able to finish it all. But what I did manage to finish I enjoyed.

My girlfriend and I have been coming here for years and always have great food and great service! We love the cozy home-town feel and friendly staff. As the oldest operating restaurant in California, it definitely has the charm of a classic American diner. I highly recommend the famous eggs Benedict!

What happened to this place? I have been coming here since 1973 with my father now with my son. Service used to be personal now we are all numbers. We walked in sat down the one counter waiter was slammed with taking orders 4 other server working like sloths just looked and made conversation while we stood for 5 minutes waiting for the old plates to be removed and counter to be wiped. One was leaning on back counter waiting for new coffee pot to fill, guess she can’t multitask and clear the counter while the next pot brewed. Maybe it is a new policy to have a coffee brewing monitor and 3 supervisors. There she is again standing in front of coffee machine jiggling handles watching pot fill. if I owned this place she would be looking for a new job. Adding to this review as I received a response concerning pagers??? What I had no interaction with pager system. I sat at the counter with my son. Maybe staff should read review and contemplate what prompted the post. When employees stand around talking and watching coffee brew while patrons stand at COUNTER waiting for dirty spots to be cleared while 1 server handles 3 others is the lack of customer service. They had more important social issues to attend to. To be clear some servers busted their buts while others just stood around. Maybe they thought«not my job» «not my station» but in the end manager on duty that day has no handle on business focus or it wouldn’t have happened. Most good establishments everyone works hand and hand so that if anyone of them get backed up the others pick up the excess! Those slackers in question did and do what they do because the precedence has been set.

My son and I decided to eat out for breakfast and stopped by Saugus Café. They were busy but we still got great service. We ordered the Belgium chocolates chip waffles with bacon, hash browns & coffee. Everything was superb, the service, food, and atmosphere. There’s great history at this café since it’s been at this location since September 1, 1887 I highly recommend this place!

Old school since 1886. Skip Denny’s and ihop and check this place out instead. It’s nice to sit down in a time warp restaurant enjoying dinner and checking out all the old memorabilia on the walls. The prices are reasonable and the food is good, not the best, but good. We ordered our meals and didn’t have to wait long to get our food served.

I think this place is great for what it is. Big menu, good food, wholesome. It’s a diner so you know what to expect. I was presently surprised and if I had to choose between coming here or going to Denny’s or something I would definitely go here. We came in for breakfast last time we were in and it was great. Very affordable, and no hiccups or issues with freshness or service. I love the feel of the place. My boyfriend thinks it stinks(literally) but what do you expect with 40+ year old carpet and walls lol? I would recommend Saugus Café to anyone looking for a filling meal at any time of day. Open 24 hours is always a plus!

5 in our group burned again. Needs a new owner and/or manager. Inconsistent quality and your food will be cold. Eggs were cold and smelled like rotten fish. Full cocktail bar in the back room that you can eat in and accommodates large groups even if you aren’t drinking booze. The Bulgarian bartender is very moody and her service can suck at times. Most the time in fact. They need a new bartender. We love the restaurant employees, the girls as sweet as sugar. Understand they can get slammed with customers all of a sudden after a long, slow week and service may get spread thin and you may experience a wait. Ya deal with this with a warm heart and patience. They’ll probably get your order wrong and it will arrive cold and they know it and don’t care. They just got a write up in Westways Magazine that didn’t mention how bad this place has become. We won’t return until their are some big changes.

So. One star. It was terrible and I have always wanted to try Saugus café because it’s been here way before j was born. But sadly it is terrible! I got something super basic and they failed at that. The ham was super dry, hash browns was pure onions and burnt potatoes, eggs were eggs lol and their pancakes were super salty. I will most likely never come back. I have always fucked with way station here in SCV so way station erday.:.

I don’t think Saugus Café needs another review. We’ve all been there. We all love it. It’s an SCV staple. If you live in Santa Clarita and haven’t been here yet, what are you doing? Get up and go try it right now. It’s a timeless diner with a friendly but authentic staff that makes you feel like you’ve gone back to a simpler time. I would love to show my appreciation by throwing up another 5 stars. Keep it going, Saugus Café, you guys are great.

I’ve been here before but it’s been awhile, so as I was running some errands I figured why not try it out again. The service was great, plenty of staff. The ambience is a vintage diner. The menu is affordable. I just ended up getting the simple 2 egg breakfast. My plate was hot when it came out. Eggs were cooked good, hash browns needed some flavor. A little bland. It also has big onions in it, so if you don’t like onions be sure to tell them. I would give them another shot, maybe try something different or even order lunch next time.

I thought this was a nice place. I’m not a big fan of steak but I got their«Famous Saugus Steak». I was not impressed with it but I thought the customer service was really good contrary to a couple reviews I read on here. Given that this place was so old, I thought it would feel like steeping back in time but it seemed relatively modern. So if you’re looking to experience something old timey you will probably be disappointed but if you’re looking to a place that’s like a diner, I think this place is right up your alley.

Every time my husband and I try a new breakfast spot, we always order the same thing. Country fried steak and eggs for him, corned beef hash and eggs for me. We were in the area and found this spot. The country fried steak had good flavor and crunch, but the gravy was awful… it was way too sweet, and didn’t taste like much. The eggs didn’t taste the freshest, but was okay. The hash browns lacked flavor, and weren’t sliced thin like most hash brown potatoes. Corned beef hash had good flavor, but the beef had a thick paste like texture, rather than meat. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Good service here, but mediocre food.

Large menu to choose from. Took us maybe 10 – 15 just to figure out what to order… So we ended up trying some sandwiches. We split a tuna melt & a roast beef club with fries & onion rings … Sandwiches were decent… Maybe the flavors were a little dull for our taste. Ambience — I would say the place may need a light facelift soon… Food quality & flavor — decent but maybe needs some more umph in the flavor & some fine tuning on textures. Service — the waitress was on top of it all. Convenience — I love the fact that it’s 24 hours & the location is quite convenient with parking… you never know when you will get hungry!
