Back over at this store since Scotts Valley store is a wreck. Once again, there’s one employee that bust ass on the floor. Dude is always working and working hard. I had needed my blueberries. Garrett went out of his way to stop what he was doing and go in the back and get a case so I get five packages, then he put the rest in the freezer. He was stocking the freezer and just had not gotten to the blueberries yet. The following week there was Garrett again stocking the freezer. He saw me and got me my five blueberries once again. Then I was down another aisle and he came up to and asked me if I needed any help finding anything? I told what I was looking for and he looked through all the boxes that were on the floor to be stocked and could not find what I needed. The point is, he tried to find it, It just was not ordered. This dude is good and should go far with any job, because he works and has good customer service skills. There is one other dude that bust ass, but I do not know his name? If he’d there next Monday I will find out and post him as well.

I came here to kill time last Saturday. I decided to go for a walk despite the heat and after 40 minutes of walking under direct sunlight, I wanted to escape for a bit. A much larger, well lit, and organized store than any other locations I have been. Wandered around I did. Didn’t intend to buy anything but when I saw the aprons for kids, I knew I had to. Gavin will be 4 next month and he has been helping out in the kitchen. He now cracks his own eggs into the pan and stir whatever I have going on. We talked about baking a cake for the local fire station that evening so an apron is not just a great find but for a great price, too. Service was super friendly. P. S. We baked a chocolate bundt cake that evening. P. P. S. Gavin loves his apron!

Great deals of course… everything’s a dollar! They usually have a good selection of items and stocked shelves. I really like scoring on the all natural and organic foods they sometimes get and sneak into the shelves. Lonnnnng likes sometimes.

This place, like all other dollar places, is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, I can’t beat the price and I’ve come across great bargains here over the years. Examples include a dozen small framed mirrors that my housemate and I use to create a checkered pattern on a wall that needed to reflect more light. We’d looked into huge mirrors and art pieces.etc. that were all hundreds of dollars and instead we spent $ 12 and it was rad! Another example is glass candle holders, rocks, and sand I used to make ocean-themed centerpieces for an event that I can use again with other items. On the other hand, more than ½ the stuff isn’t even worth the $ 1 and I’ve shopped alongside some of the SKETCHIEST people I’ve ever come across in my life. One time I was in line here with a crackhead who bought 4 dozen generic brand 5 hr energy shots and I had to stand there for 10 minutes while she payed in change that she hadn’t counted out in advance. Ewww. But today, I experience excellent customer service and I’d like to give a special thank you to Veronica(I think that’s her name, I hope), Sky, and Luci for putting up with my high maintenance customer needs this afternoon. I went in and had them fill up 2 dozen balloons for me. Yes, that’s right, 24 orange and black Mylar balloons. Veronica(?) was the most helpful of all. When other employees thought they might be out of helium, she actually checked the tanks and played with the handles and investigated for me and then started filling the first dozen or more. Thank you, ladies! Sincerely, Pain in the Butt Balloon Bouquet Lady P. S. When I was leaving, I told you thank you for contributing to the good luck wishes for the SF Giants… guess who won the World Series tonight!!! Boom! You ladies rock!

When it hasn’t been my day, my week… or so fourth– I just head on down to dollar tree to do some serious retail therapy without actually really spending anything. Sometimes I’ll convince myself of household items I need, and so thriftily keep my household running with necessities from the dollar tree! Knick knacks, hair accessories, home décor, toys… toilet paper– it’s all here just waiting for your exchange of one dollar for absolute ownership. If I ever was to plan a themed party this would definitely be the spot for everything from serving utensils, to decorations to themed novelties. And alas, they actually sell buncha-crunch…you remember… delicious little clusters of crunch chocolate bars in a box.

word to the wise: if you see it, and want it, GRABIT. this place sells out quick! i went in, and they had orville redenbacher’s smart-pop popcorn for a dollar(typically 4 at the grocery store.) and i, being the dumby i am, grabbed one box thinking i’d come back later in the week for some. well, i came back, but i checked the ENTIRE store. the popcorn… was gone=[ my fault, can’t blame the employees or anyone else. so learn from my lesson, if it’s there one day, that doesn’t mean it’ll be there the next. seriously. the employees are funny and really helpful. and they have a great selection of candy and frozen entrees. chips and drinks too. everything you need for a party, including platers, streamers and forks. go here before the local grocery store, you’ll find some amazing deals! also, i think they get get the surplus of name brands from other stores. so you can find brand name goodies for super cheap≠] yay!

Yes, it’s cheap. And it is made cheap. The bottle marked«olive oil» turned out to be mainly soy oil when you read the really tiny print. If you get it home and it doesn’t work, they won’t take it back. Worst of all, the management was rude. Oh, and no bike racks to park a bicycle. I used to shop there all the time for artsy stuff, but not any more. There are other dollar stores in Santa Cruz and I go there now.

love the place. so glad there’s one in SC now. lots of great kitchen, seasonal and other basics for cheap! been there two days in a row(unusual for me, really) get home and discover I’m now out of aluminum foil. Guess I’ll be going again soon. This store is soo much more organized than the Watsonville one, that one always a real mess with so much crap on the floor. The Scotts Valley store is nicely organized too.
