Food was actually very good! Service was horrible. Had to ask three times for my drink, twice for rice(and I was almost done before it arrived) and never did receive the side of hot chutney I asked for on the side. I also had to glag down the server for my check. The ironic thing is that when I walked in there was only one other party(and three servers); but during the couse of my meal four other parties came in… and they all left before me. My advice… stick to delivery.

This place has delicious food! It takes a while for the food to come out but it’s always piping hot so I’m gunna blame it on them cooking everything fresh, I rather wait for fresh food then get shitty old food quickly. The location sometimes is sketchy in the parking lot but that’s being picky. Overall good service, decent prices and super bomb food. Thank goodness there’s at least one good Indian restaurant in SLV.

Great food! Cute place! Service was a little patchy but they were quite busy. We will visit again.

Though few curries gave the hint of fish, the food was great if the fish thing is not a deal breaker.

Went in for lunch buffet. Everything was ok, I would definitely go to some other restaurant if there was time. Service was good. Food was ok :(

We were looking for restaurants in the area with high ratings and came across this place so we figured we’d give it a try. We were offered water as soon as we walked in, which we appreciated since we walked there and were pretty thirsty. However, the water tasted like it was from the bathroom. Then we ordered our food and drinks. The food was actually really good. I had a shrimp dish and he had a lamb dish. Both were good but the shrimp with peppers was definitely a lot more flavorful. The service was a bit slow. I had the chai tea with free refills but no one came around to refill it. We actually had to flag someone down for our check. Overall, a 4⁄5 because the food was really tasty :)

Nice atmosphere, good food, good service. Plenty of options for vegan and vegetarian dining. Free parking. I’d go back.

Your typical Indian fare. Flavorful, fresh and delicious. We ordered vegetable pakora which came out quickly and was hot and flavorful. For our meal we got a vegetarian platter that came with tea(chai), 4 entrees, rice, salad, kheer and yogurt sauce all for $ 18! Great deal. The one downside to me was the garlic naan. To me it had no flavor.

I am Indian and have eaten in Bay Area for last couple of decades. Went for dinner on Sun night. Place was very empty. The tables were neat and place is clean. Not a fan usually but loved their paneer tikka masala(so expect chicken to be good too). Okra and aloo gobhi we asked spicy and was good. Naans were good. Especially onion kulcha. Very tasty. I would go back again.

This place has a classy vibe. The buffet had a variety of choices set up aesthetically and I liked how there wasn’t the cliché butter chicken or chicken tikka masala for the meat option, but a delicious mushroom chicken. I enjoyed the paneer tikka masala the best and the garlic naan. I would definitely come back. P. S. This place is perfect for vegetarians, with a plethora of options to choose from.

Delicious! not too spicy, great flavor and quantity Ordered using Eat24. Arrived order was by cashier station, no signatures required. Easy transaction. Had Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Tikka Masala both were great. Ordered dinner plate of each and had enough for two, plus leftovers. Will definitely order from here again! !!

After having enjoyed the Royal Taj for years(even though there were things I found faulty), I was tentative about trying the new people moving into the business. We have found that it is very good, and are delighted to see that it has been cleaned up. Some days are better than others, but that’s life, and all in all, a good place. My favorite– Vegetarian Thali, which«gives» me a whole second dinner to take home and enjoy. The fish pakora appetizers are also delicious. Glad to have them around.

Fantastic Indian food, best in Santa Cruz by far! I’ve had a lot of Indian food from a lot of places in CA; the chicken tikka, Mali kafta and garlic naan/rice are expertly executed! Highly recommend!

People please think thrice before you come to this place. I followed the rating and reviews on Unilocal before I came here but I regret it as I didn’t realize that the reviews and ratings were very old. No choices in food and the buffet was very cold. Please look at the food before you sit down for eating

They are looting people in the name of Indian cuisine. Food literally sucks and I suffered food poisoning. The service is bad, food stinks, no flavor in food. Don’t try this place people, if you want to have Indian, this isn’t the place to be and it’s coming from an Indian.

we arrived with high expectations given the 4⁄5 star rating on Unilocal(based on 111 reviews). we left thoroughly disappointed. we ordered what we suspect is rather standard fare in the world of Indian cuisine … i) popadoms(2) ii) vegetable samosas(2) iii) chicken marsala — requested medium heat(1 to share) iv) rice(2) v) plain naan(1) our summary … i) small and, we suspect, old. ii) pastry was chewy and greasy. filling was virtually all potato although it did pack a punch from a spices point of view. worst of all, however, it was lukewarm at best. iii) lukewarm … yet again. in addition, sight nor sound of the medium heat(read: spices) we had requested. to describe the dish as «overly creamy» would be an understatement. it was at this point that we realised that a pattern was emerging … and we suspect we had the buffet earlier in the day to thank for it. in short, reheated leftovers that weren’t even thoroughly reheated. iv) we have never seen rice as shiny(read: greasy) as the basmati rice was placed before us … and it was lukewarm. v) whilst the naan was hot, it was not only very shiny(read: greasy) but also still raw in parts. the sad thing is, the service was actually OK. the staff were very accommodating even though it was Feb 14th, the restaurant was busy and we had not made a reservation. unfortunately, the kitchen let the front of house down with substandard fare. fare that we are confident in stating would have been shown up by the frozen meals one can purchase at the local supermarket.

I’m on the hunt for good Indian in Santa Cruz — Maharaja was just ok. not the best I’ve ever had, but certainly not the worst either.

We went back on another night with some friends. Ordered the same feast and a few other things. Again, everything was delicious. My only one criticism is that the tandoori chicken and meats that came with the feast were all VERY dry. In fact, most of it went uneaten because it was SO dry. I don’t know if it just needs more marination time with the yogurt or cooked at a lower heat. I don’t cook Indian so I have no idea, but it needs some revision. Other than that, I would totally still go here, but would just order other menu items.

I hope this is an anomaly as the people and service at Maharajah are very good. Having lunch that their sister restaurants in the San Jose area or we stop by for buffet at lunchtime for the Labor Day weekend. I noted that a couple of the dishes tasted«off», flavors not what we had come to expect. Within 30 minutes of paying the check, I was vomiting into a trash can and my wife found herself with a case of diarrhea in a public restroom(I couldn’t make it past the trash can). We noticed that the food was lukewarm, not hot. I suspect the food handling was not very careful. I wish them the best, but I would be very reluctant to return.

Friends a honest review here, this place has very limited buffet varieties and only one non veg curry which tastes sweet and completely Americanized . If you are looking for the best indian restaurant with the same indian spices and taste then Ross is surely not three over for you. Watch out !!
