Good food and decent prices especially given the super expensive neighborhood. We ordered chicken tikka wrap, chicken tikka masala and Chana masala. Everything(except wrap) comes with naan and rice.

Delish buffet. Cabbage dish was the best. Carrot dessert was yummy. But $ 3 for soda or tea?

I have been eating here since it opened, & I used to LOVE their buffet. I hadn’t been back in many months & boy has this place changed. The buffet is now HALF the options it used to be, the chai tasted awful, & the service was reprehensible. You can tell these young guys working are only there because they have to be, and seriously wish they were doing something else. The buffet food was old & unattended to, and there was no carrot pudding(my absolute favorite). Needless to say, I’m over this place :(

Very tasty! Have had several items on the menu and they are all good. We get take out from Sitar quite often. All of the staff is very friendly. All of the food looks and tastes fresh. My husband and I both had the Chicken Tikka Kabob last night and we were both raving about it. Perfectly spiced chicken with perfectly cooked vegetables. –Not too soft or too hard. Just enough oil without being greasy. Loved it. So happy we have a good Indian food place in Santa Cruz. *Oh and a side note: To my stupidity — I left my wallet out of my purse and was unable to pay when I was there to get our takeout. Since I was recognizable, they let me take our dinners and pay the next day. I was blown away by such kindness.

Ordered the vegetarian buffet, and the man at the counter neglected to tell me that drinks were not included until after I had already paid. To make it worse, I got SEVERE Food Poisoning from it. Don’t eat here!

Very bland food. No taste at all. Very less caring staff. I ordered chicken Tikka masala, it was the worst I have ever had… it tasted like curry nothing as close to the Tikka masala. I wonder how they came up with such food. Will never be back. They have stacks of dirty plates in the middle of the dinning room. That is so unhygienic. The glasses were full of stains. I just hope I don’t get sick after the meal. The good side was their Naan. It was ok.

This restaurant, from what I’ve had, isn’t really exceptional. Bland food and passable naan, if not that great. The rice was okay. Subpar service overall with a disinterested worker up front. There’s better out there.

We ordered the lamb tika masala and vegetarian buffet. The lamb was tender and the dish was spot on. We were glad to have it served with yogurt(?). While that was being devoured, we enjoyed the diversity of dishes from the buffet. The nan was great and all was plentiful.

Good food and friendly capable staff. I recommend the chicken tikka masala or a kabob. Usually very quick service, and a buffet too — great if you’re pressed for time. The chai is also very tasty. I’ve been in Santa Cruz for ten years and sitar has been delicious and consistent the whole time.

Word for advice if you are African American do not come this establishment. I have given this place more than enough chances to treat me like a human being. When I arrived at this establishment, I was greeted with an unfriendly look. The Indian hostess/cashier gave me dirty looks. I respectfully ordered one order of garlic naan. He continued to make unwelcoming facial expressions until I gave him cash to pay for my purchase. He then proceeded to make my bread without washing his hands. This does not seem major but I just handed him cash. That cash could’ve been anywhere. Before getting my naan, he made one more last dirty look then passed the bread to me. I felt so bad that I decided to write a review. Please don’t come here if you want to be treated respectfully and humane. I’ve been here three times and each time .I think a new cashier will be kind. NOPE.

I’m stunned that they are still in business. We ordered the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala. Talk about a salt lick! That is all I tasted. Also, my gf mentioned her dish was pretty bland which I also confirmed when I sampled some of it. I would never go back here again unless they change ownership or get their act together. I would say its one of the worst Indian meals I’ve had so far in my life! The employee taking our order has a very poor command of the English language.

This review is in regards to their customer service. Every time I go here they charge me a different amount for the same thing I order. They claim their menu is not current, or the prices are wrong. I found one menu on Unilocal, and then another menu they said was wrong was posted in their restaurant in front of my face. I work across the street and like their food, so I would be a regular customer, but me and all of my co-workers have experienced this problem, so won’t be going back.

I was super stoked to eat there, but as I was finishing off my plate I noticed that there were HELLA roaches!!! I informed the hostess, who acted as though they hadn’t known. Needless to say, they did not refund my meal.

Best Indian food I’ve had in Santa Cruz! I have tried the other two(Aroma and Malabar) but this is the only one I’ve come back to, and it kept the high quality. Lunch specials are great, they hit everything on point and deserve a little love! I feel embarrassed that I ‘shopped around’ because it was just wasted money and bad food… I should have stuck with Sitar!

Food is great but every time I come here, I get a bad attitude from the staff. Three different cashiers have been very impatient with a greeting along the lines of «what do you want?» Followed by tapping their fingers on the counter. Funny story time: While I was ordering, a young man walks into this place, trips, and knocks over a plate of dirty dishes breaking 3 glasses. He then picks the tray up and puts it in the right spot, walks up to the register and says«hey are you guys hiring??»

So. This is the oldest and most prominent indian restaurant located right downtown in santa cruz. If you are vegetarian you will love the lunch buffet. Not too high in price it’s all veg all the time. If you are a meatatarian you can add meat to anything on the buffet for a fee, but you’ll be better ordeing off the menu. Sliding a tiny plate of chicken onto your plate from the buffet is not the way to go. Service is decent-you’ll place your order at the counter and they’ll fetch it out. the buffet is of course self serve. If it was up to me I’d rate this place as a three or possibly a two star, however my partner informs me that if i want to sleep at night, I’d better do better then that as they really really really like the paneer tikka masala.
