Ok-so I rate the bartenders-spend most $$ there, Rene has been there throughout all the management changes.(That is more than a few!!) He is amazing and so pleasant. I come for the kickass margaritas, seems he is always the one making them, NOCOMPLAINTS

The bar area is fun but small. After hanging at the beach, it seems like all the volleyball players move the party to the bar here and boy is it fun. The food here is okay and or average. I feel the portion size is on the small side. The strawberry margaritas are probably the best thing going on here. We like to order a pitcher to start things off the right way. Parking can be a B*tch though if the parking lot is fun so beware.

I love the location and atmosphere of this little gem tucked away off of PCH. Never even knew it was there until a friend of mine suggested we go for a drink and bite to eat after a hike in the area. We shared an order of nachos with chicken. Good stuff! We also had their top shelf Margarita. We each ended up having two only to realize after the fact that we should have stopped at one because they kicked our butts! Granted, we are light weights when it comes to alcohol, but just sayin’. ;-) Until next time Marix Tex Mex…

I was so excited to come here after my friend told me about the AYCE taco Tuesday’s for $ 10. That’s until I was finally served my food. The wait was OK about 30 mins, but the bar saved us from our impatience. My margarita wasn’t bad, I actually liked it though I’ve had better. Service was great at the bar, mediocre once we were seated. It’s fine though, I knew Tuesdays were one of their busiest nights. When I finally got my food, first of all they give you giant scoops of beans and rice which I feel like defeated the purpose of an AYCE taco night but whatever, at least they’re generous. The tacos themselves are huge. They didn’t even warm up the tortillas, they were cold and lifeless like they just took them out of the package and served them as is. They put so much lettuce and cheese in the tacos that I had to scoop some out. Plus it barely had any meat compared to the huge taco shell. Thanks but I’ll just go to my local street taco truck which are 10x more amazing than this for the same price. I’d have to say, you’re paying more for the ambiance, not the food. I’ll pass.

Service is a mess. Went there recently on a Saturday night with another couple and 5 kids. restaurant was about half empty. The waitress couldn’t seem to find time to take care of us so a host was getting involved. We ordered and after about 20 minutes the host told me he’s sorry but they didn’t have what I ordered. He offered for me to look at a menu. They never came back to take my order but everyone else’s food came so I ended up not eating. The manager, waitress and host where all oblivious to the situation while running around in a panic the whole time. Also our kids where sitting at separate tables. After the food came I realized that the food was sitting in front of them for a while with no silverware. The food was just getting cold so I went and got them forks and knives. Food was pretty bad. Overall I’m surprised this place is still in business.

Going here, I get a workout and dinner all in one since its right by the Santa Monica Stairs(it makes the food taste even better!). The food is a bit pricy, but it’s decent for tex mex. I usually stick to the chicken tostada, which is ginormous and usually lasts me at least two meals. I also like how it’s decorated; it feels like a trendy Abercrombie store with Mexican flair. However, consistency and service are two areas Marix needs to work on. In terms of consistency, the meals I’ve gotten have been better some times versus others– some days they overload the plate and other days they skimp out on the important ingredients. And the service needs a drastic improvement. The last time I stopped by, it look a whole 5 minutes for the host to even acknowledge that I walked in the door and the waitress only stopped by at the end of our meal, to deliver the check. Overall, it’s an average experience, but it’s close by, so I’ll probably come back every now and then.

There was a time when Mexican food could only mean shredded lettuce, diced beefsteak tomatoes, ground beef, and slight warmed limp flour tortillas. Marix is a reminder you can still get Mexican that way. It has been around for years and draws mostly long standing locales who live nearby. I went recently and had flashbacks to going here as a child. Nothing has really changed. The food is nothing to slightly underwhelming, service was mediocre but yet somehow I think I’ll end up being back at some point. In fairness that probably has a lot to do with Taco Tuesday, which not withstanding the quality of the tacos) is actually fantastic deal.

Delicious! Some friends and I met here for a late dinner around 8:45 on a Wednesday night. The place was barren except for a group of guys smoking on the patio and a couple tucked away in a booth. Warning: Parking in the lot is $ 7. Cash only. And good luck finding street parking(there is none!). They have a cheap bar menu(with happy hour and non-happy hour prices; both cheap) and a dinner menu. My puffy tacos with carnitas were AMAZING. Two corn tortillas, fried until puffy, loaded with flavorful, tender beef short ribs, cojita cheese, lettuce and cilantro. I ordered a side of sour cream but didn’t need it — those tacos were perfect. Even the rice on the side was addictive. My friends come here often and rave about the fish tacos. You can choose the type of fish(they recommend the sea bass) and tortillas or lettuce wraps. I’ll be back!

I’ve been coming to Marix for years, I even continued to come once I had kids. We’d go with the kids for super early dinners but Marix is permanently off the list for the following reasons: 1. The food’s just ok nowadays 2. Service was horrible the last 3 or 4 times we went(with the place almost empty, it took over 30 minutes to be served) and finally, 3. their decision to no longer provide highchairs– this is a great way to give the finger to families with small kids. Message received, Marix. We’ll stop being your early dinner crowd.

It’s entry level Tex Mex. As long as you have time to wait twenty minutes to get your first drink order and willing to get up for silverware that your server doesn’t bring over, this place is perfect for you. Food 3 stars. Service 1 star. Average = 2

Came here after beach clean up day and this place sure hit the spot. Great margritas and ice cold beer really hit the spot. My group had about 20 people and we were seated with no problem. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. The salsa was delicious and the chips were hot and fresh. I ordered the chipotle burrito and it was very tasty. Pretty good sized portion and plenty of flavor. Instead of getting the usual side I asked if I could substitute it for a single cheese enchilada and they said no problem. That had to be one of the best tasting enchiladas I have had in a long time. Full of melted cheese and the red sauce on top was thick and tasty. I really can not wait to come back and try this place again. With the great food and service, I am surprised this is only 3 stars right now.

What happened, Marix? I’m a transplanted Texan with 30+ years of Tex-Mex experience. I’ve been going to you for almost as long as you have been open and its like you have been abducted by aliens from the planet of suck! Is it new management/ownership? Whoever you fired in the kitchen, get him back. Whoever you hired to replace him, yeah, check his credentials. He’s not from Texas or Mexico. He’s posing. His fellow Tex-Mex brethren would ex-communicate him from the guild. Whatever’s happened, it needs to stop, quickly. I was in there, this past Saturday night, during tourist season and the beach was as crowded as it could be the weekend before July 4th. There were 4 tables occupied. It pains me to do this to a 20 year friend, but you need an intervention, bud. You changed the salsa. The salsa was good, not real Tex-Mex salsa, but it accepted it as a decent melding of Texas and California. Now it is too salty, too watery and looks like it came from the bottom of the bucket from 2 nights ago. The chile con queso. Why, Marix, why??? The only place in LA that I can find real Tex-Mex queso and now it you’ve cut back the one thing that makes queso queso… friggin cheese!!! The taco shells: WTH? You used to have authentic, fried, crispy tacos. The taco that came out was in a shell I could get from a grocery store. Your fajitas. How do you forget to make the crown jewel of Tex-Mex cuisine? Skirt steak, grilled over high heat for a couple of minutes, flip, repeat, throw it on a steaming plate of bell peppers and onions and call it good. I didn’t recognize what came out last night. You changed the rice!!! WTH, man! I can go on and on, but that would mean I have to sample the rest of the menu your new staff has destroyed. All of this points to a business strategy that is sure to sink this West Side icon in a few months. I suspect you are employing the ol’ «use crappier ingredients, hire an inexperienced staff and charge more money for it!!» You even raised the price for parking to 7 bucks and took away the koi pond. You’ve got the carved wooden Mexican guy that used to greet and send me on my contented tummy way in there. I couldn’t make up a better way to alienate your loyal customers and run the business into the ground. Here’s a tip, raise the parking to 10 bucks, buy the best ingredients your real Tex Mex chef can get his hands on and charge even more. Trust me, there are plenty of your former loyal customers that will gladly help you with this journey back to be better. You’ll have to take reservations in a few short months instead of shuttering the windows. Come on, Marix. You’ve dug a hole, you’ve hit bedrock. Don’t ask for dynamite. Give us your hands, bud. We’ll pull you up. I’m not coming back to watch this suffering again. Your move.

I am not a diva, I really am not. But when you give me a bad experience when I start ordering I am done. My boyfriend and I come here once a week. Usually every Saturday. I was actually going to write a really good review today because I kept forgetting to give them their props and I was telling my guy to remind me to do it today as we eat… But perhaps it was meant to be that I didn’t, because they don’t deserve any praise. All ruined today. Main reason we come here is because they always have without an issue accommodate my onion allergy. I am a huge fan of guacamole, but unfortunately can’t have any in most restaurants because of an onion allergy. To me coming to a Mexican restaurant and not being able to have guacamole is kind of a killer of my experience. Marix staff has always without an issue made my guacamole specifically for me, onion free. Today as I place my usual order the waiter interrupted me mid sentence and cut me off to tell me their guacamole is pre made and they can’t do that. I told him I come here every weekend and I ALWAYS have had guacamole made onion free due to my allergies. He walked away and 2 seconds later this catch of a manager came in; who thought he was the hottest sh1t and told me he can’t accommodate me. I almost walked out then and there, but considering we drove and parked valet I decided to stay. Never again am I eating here again. You can’t treat a customer one way continually and then take it away. Funny enough on their menu it says«let us know if you have any allergies» yet they can’t ACCOMMODATE my damn allergy!!! Well screw you Marix you have my business no longer. How damn hard is it to mash up some avocado? It’s not like you do it with a rock and it’s a long tedious process. And as I write this; while sitting here, smoke coming out of my ears; they bring out guacamole without onions. Wow was it that hard? But still one star. Waiter cut me off, manager came over and told me they can’t accommodate me. Yet when I was seemingly upset and no longer having a good time they bring it out? Thank you but no thank you. You already ruined my meal and lost my business. And the way I was treated who knows; maybe they spit in it. I think I would have been happier had they not even brought it, because why even put me through this drama and tell me no and then bring it. Make up your damn mind.

Finally! Some chile con queso! This Texan girl is a happy camper. Granted, it was a tad similar to Chili’s queso, but I will take it. The frozen margarita wasn’t as smooth as it would be if it were made in a machine, and the ceviche left a little to be desired(more FISH please!). But I will be back for the queso/chips! My husband seemed to like his ahi tuna tacos, as well.

One of the worst dinning experience I EVERHAD ! I Was served two pieces of hair In my soup yes two ! I understand this things can happen but than it took forever to get the server attention since he was to busy with his phone, after 5 minutes of waiving he looked at me and said this look like your friend hair and pointed at her !(Shocking) My soup was taken of the check but no manger came to check on us or even our server, ounce we complained about the hair in the soup the staff made us feel like we are not welcome anymore ! I will never come back here ! After 10 years of being a loyal customer Shame shame shame on you Marix.

I’m one of the regulars there, have been going there almost weekly for the last 10 years. Oppsss… I should rethink that probably. Valet is the only option to park, it’s $ 7. They used to have free chips and salsa, now it is no longer free. Update: salsa and chips are still free, you just need to ask for it.

What’s better than having Margaritas right after a nice day on Will Rodger’s Beach? Yum, I got a Banana… Margarita. Only about $ 8, plus I got some appetizer that was delish too. Free salsa and chips! Our waitress was super-duper awesome. Thanks! I parked up the road for $ 8.

Great place to stop by after hiking those Palisade trails! On a diet, but still enjoyed my «healthy» grilled shrimp tacos, replaced the beans with grilled vegetables, and wrapped with my choice of lettuce instead of tortillas! A diet also means no drinking, but the girls enjoyed a pitcher of classic Margarita for $ 24 :)
