Remember that great feeling of going to a neighborhood hair salon? It was the opposite of trendy, people knew each other, and there was nothing overly fancy about it? Meet Studio E, near the Santa Monica airport. Staff are friendly, great haircuts at a reasonable price. I’ve been going to Samantha for almost 5 years now and can’t imagine going anywhere else. Don’t be afraid of the weird lion mural! This place is the real(unhyped) deal.

Waiting for your stylist in a one-size-fits-all smock, freshly shampooed(Does anyone but a super model look good with wet head?), catching a tude, as well as, a chill NEVER happens at Studio E. There’s no intimidating product or service up sell either. Quality needs no sales pitch. I nixed the hoity-toity BH salon scene years ago and have been checking in regularly for color maintenance with Reba. Last week we said in unison, «This needs to be changed up.» «There’s too much ash. You need to go warmer.» «But I like ash.» «It’s clashing with your skin tone.» «True, but I don’t want to look brassy, you know, cheap!» «No worries. I’m thinking of using your base color with a few subtle, warmer highlights.» Two hours later, all tin foil removed, the blow dry revealed precisely what she intended, a glow not unlike sunset’s last remnants, not unlike the pigtail my Mom snipped prior to my first haircut way too many years ago… Thanks Reba, I needed that!

I was in great need of a haircut, not just a trim but a «new do». It had been 6 months since my last one and it was wayyyy overdue. I searched the internet and compared prices and specials. Studio E had the best overall prices AND a 20% of coupon. I called to book and was assigned to Erica. She was young and fun w/fresh new ideas and took into account what I wanted, my hair care routine(non-existent lol) as well as my desire to try to be stylish yet not over the top. I walked out of the salon 2 hours after arriving and had a fun yet classic new cut w/a few brown and blond highlights. They looked very natural and Erica said they will not have that«grow out/roots exposed» look for at least 8 or so weeks! Yippee! And, she does free bang trims between cuts– can’t beat that! I’m a fan! Thanks Erica and Studio E!

I had been dealing with ‘thin” hair my whole life and thought that I was destined to look 10 years older than I needed to because of the lack of hair until a friend of mine who religiously raved about this salon called me one night. She said that the Salon had hired a person who did hair extensions and hair weaves and that maybe I should come in for a consult. I was resistant because I had heard that extensions were pretty cost prohibitive… but went in anyway at my friends urging. I met Erica and she changed my life. She had multiple options for my hair that previously were never offered by any stylist I had… and all of the options were affordable. I took a leap of faith in her abilities and boy was that the best thing I could have ever done! Erica is highly skilled and fantastic at extensions and hair weaves! I have been going to her for 3 years now and can’t imagine ever not having hair. Most importantly people think the hair is all mine which is really the true test! She is patient and sweet and highly skilled in this area. If you are thinking of extensions or a hair weave call and get an appointment with Erica… she can work wonders! Thanks Erica!

A five star on friendliness. I love the people in this nice neighborhood salon. and Nancy does my color and cut better than my old Beverly Hills stylist! The price is right too.

A great neighborhood salon. I have been going to Ellen for 20 years and consider myself a part of their family. I’m very picky about my hair and have always feel listened to and very well cared for. The stylists are competent and professional. Oh and BTW, Linda gives the best mani/petti’s in town

I found this place through Unilocal, and decided to try it out since it had such great reviews and is so reasonably priced. I had my haircut by Erica, who was great. She gave me the exact cut I wanted, and didn’t try to do anything crazy or too trendy. She understood that I’m not the type of person who spends tons of time styling my hair every day so she gave me a low maintenance cut. I told her that I had an event to go to that night, so she spent a long time giving me a great blow-out, which looked fabulous and lasted the whole evening. The whole thing only cost $ 50. Plus she does free bang trims for all her clients in between cuts, which is great for me since my bangs grow so fast. The salon itself is totally low-key, neighborhood-y place, no frills and none of the pretentious LA style scene. I would definitely recommend it!

I have been going here for nearly seven years. Diane is THEBEST — she’s so awesome at highlights and cuts, I’ll never go to anyone else. She’s fun to talk to and I look forward to spending three hours in the chair every six or so weeks just to catch up with her. I can’t recommend Diane enough, she’s the greatest. Tony works at the station next to hers and he’s always friendly and chatty with me, too. It’s a nice, quiet little salon and I love it.

After trying feverishly to find a realistic replacement for my $ 150 hair cut, I drove by Studio E not expecting much. Other than a great address and location near the fun Ocean Park traffic, the salon is not much to look at and definitely has no frills. I was pleasantly surprised when they not only took me in without an appointment, but immediately whisked me to Toni. An unassuming, professional and expert stylist, with the patience of a Beverly Hills señor stylist and the updated vision of a Melrose stylist, Toni patiently looked over my current cut. He also asked questions, analyzed the texture of my hair and ‘kindly’ made recommendations. He was pleasant and not pushy. He knew exactly what to do. I walked out spending only $ 60, cut and tip, and feeling completely beautiful. My experience with Toni was kicked-up a notch when a semi celebrity(to remain anonymous) walked in for her«USUAL» with Toni. To see someone REQUEST the same stylist that had just worked with me and knowing that she had unlimited funds to spend hundreds of dollars at other salons, yet CHOSE Toni, made me feel very confident on my ‘drive-by’ salon choice. It has been a month since my cut and just last week I went to the LA Alive fundraiser for the Music Center — my hair held up beautifully and was a much better style than that of a friend that spent three times what I did! I will continue to frequent Toni at Salon E — although I do miss the mimosas, the vibes and the upscale location of my previous stylist, I DONOT miss spending so much money. I hope you will be as happy as I am with your experience at Salon E.

Stopped right in off the street and was seating immediately. The staff was very friendly, and the stylist was not too pushy. I’m not big on conversation, and she let it be, which is a big bonus for me. Got a wash and a good haircut for about $ 40. It’s a sunny, attractive interior with a view of the busy Ocean Park foot traffic. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a no-nonsense haircut with excellent results.
