Amazing and incredibly knowledgeable owners. I stopped by the nursery to get advice on a maple that was gifted to me. I’m not from California and didn’t get the maple from this nursery but Sachi took a look at the pictures I brought and gave me excellent advice on what to do for my maple that isn’t doing well. She told me I could email her for more advice if needed and spent over 30 mins trouble shooting my issues. These are people who are serious about their product and truly care about the service they provide. I cannot thank Sachi enough for the excellent customer service and attention she gave us. When i order my next maple it will be from here. Thank you again!

Great selection of maples raised from seed, carefully grafted and well cared for. As a bonus, it is a unique experience to meet wonderful people who really know what they are doing, take pride in their work, and yet remain polite and friendly. I wish I had a bigger yard.

We drove for an hour and a half for our tree and the expertise found at Momiji. I really needed their expertise since Japanese Maples have over 700 cultivars. I had spent so much time on so many sites looking for what I wanted without much luck. Upon arrival we were greeted and I explained my site, preferences and requirements and the owner led me to several trees that fit the bill. In very little time I had selected & paid, he wrapped it up and we laid it in the back of my GLK(a 15 gallon one). —- I wish I had not wasted so much time searching the internet. trying to figure out what to get. All in all, even with the drive from East Bay, going to Momiji was faster and more productive. Kinda miss old fashioned knowledge and help that the internet is missing sometimes. Mike also gave us a tip on a good Peruvian place for lunch that I’ll post elsewhere.

There is no one who knows maples better than Mike and his wife. We are so fortunate to have them in our area. I can not recommend them more. I would not think of purchasing a maple any where else!

One of the very best growers of Japanese Maples in California. Sachi and Mike are masters of their craft. Don’t settle for ‘balled and burlapped’ trees from Oregon, or the undistinguished trees from other ‘industrial grade’ nurseries. Momiji’s trees are acclimated for our area, and each tree is grafted and grown diligently in the nursery. They have a vast selection of all sizes and varieties, and very reasonable prices. A tree from Momiji is more than just a pretty specimen – it will be a ‘member of the family’ for decades to come. With nearly thirty years experience in landscaping, I can attest that there are few growers as dedicated and knowledgeable, and even fewer nurseries that are as welcoming to visit.

Visting Momiji Nursery is the best therapy you can get! It is so peaceful. Sachi and Mike are incredible and passionate about their Japanese maples. Sachi has the neatest personality and really knows her stuff. Mike is extremely kind. He gave me great ideas on how to landscape my yard. They have such a variety of Japanese maples to choose from and each tree has its own personality. All of their trees have beautiful shapes and colors, they definitely have this art mastered. I am so excited to spend many years watching my red dragon grow! Thank you

I have not yet had a chance to visit the nursery in Santa Rosa, but I was fortunate enough to meet Sachi Umehara and her daughter at their display at the SF Flower & Garden Show this year. We had been trying to settle on the right red-leaf Japanese maple for our San Francisco yard, and Sachi took the time to educate me on several different varieties, ultimately recommending a few specimens that seemed suited to our location and climate. She actually recommended that I speak to some of the other Japanese maple vendors at the show — which I did — but I ultimately returned to her display to purchase a lovely Fireglow maple because her knowledge and experience raising these trees really went above and beyond that of the other nursery owners. She provided me with planting tips and urged me to get in touch if I had any more questions — it’s obvious that she cares about each and every tree she raises. We plan to fill out the rest of our yard with some smaller maples over time, and we will be making the drive up to Momiji Nursery when the time comes!

Sachi and Mike are hardcore Japanese maple experts. It’s obvious that they care immensely for their trees and customers. From the time that Sachi takes to make sure you get just the right tree, to the wonderfully shaped trees cared for and delivered by Mike, it really doesn’t get any better. A quality tree is an investment that you’ll be living with for many years, possibly your whole life. It’s a commitment. Momiji Nursery does everything they can to make sure you have the perfect match.

If you’re looking for that perfect Japanese maple, you can’t do better than visiting Momiji. We had visited thier dispaly at the San Francisco Garden Show for years, and finally went to visit the nursery about six months ago. They had thousands of trees, big and small in more varieties than I knew existed. I so wanted to buy one of their large specimen trees – they were just spectacular! Alas I don’t have the right spot for one though. We’re near the coast – not the ideal location for most maples. Sachi and Mike spoke to us about our home and location(how much wind, what is the soil like, what kind of sun where you want to plant it, etc.) and helped us pick a two varieties that would do well despite our challenging conditions. Then they showed is hundreds of trees in those varieties, taught us about picking a good tree, etc. We finally chose one that wasn’t even in a pot – it was in their growing area – so we made the deal(very fair) and arranged to pick it up in the winter when it was dormant and they could pot the tree properly. When it came time to collect our prize, Sachi told us just what materials to bring and carefully prepared the tree for the ride in our pickup back to the Bay area. She gave us detailed watering and planting instructions, and couldn’t help but prune a few branches to prepare the tree for this spring’s growth. She invited us to call if we had any questions. We couldn’t be more pleased. If you want to pay much more and have only a limited selection – go elsewhere. If you want to go to a family owned nursery where they live and breathe Japanese maples, and probably make a friend as well – go to Momiji!

Japanese Maples and only Japanese Maples. Of all sizes and varieties. Excellent, healthy, well maintained and organized selection. Owners exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. Tell them what your local planting, water and sun conditions are and they will definitely have a tree to recommend. And will have it available to buy, that day. Highly recommended.
