This is a great little neighborhood hardware store on University. It sits back behind Fillipo’s Pizza Restaurant so it’s not immediately visible, causing me to forget that it’s there. I recently needed a duplicate key made for my mailbox and went to the US Post Office on Ringling. They couldn’t do it that day, but told us to come back a few days later when the«key maker» was in, and that the charge was 25.00 per. I then went to Home Depot. They did not have the capability to make the key. The employee at Home Depot referred us to DG’s. I should kick myself for forgetting about this store. We’ve been here several times and are always met with friendly and helpful staff. This time was no different. They duplicated two mailbox keys for us in less than 5 minutes and the cost was 5.00 for both. We have in the past had doors and windows re-screened here and they’ve always been friendly and professional. They go the extra mile being a local neighborhood store.

Needed to get a spare key made for our new rental home — found that DG Hardware(an Ace Hardware-style store) seems well stocked, and has(surprise!) a large and well stocked key making service. Much more than just copying keys, they have a well-stocked department of all sorts of keys, both home and auto, plus many more key services like re-keying a lock that I might bring in. Seems they have other services as well: Knowledgeable manager Russell was very helpful and friendly. Seems to be excellent neighborhood Ace Hardware-style store for those of us living on the Sarasota University Parkway area. My first experience was good, the spare key was inexpensive and worked like a charm. I’ll be back to check them out for other things, hope the future experiences as good as the first.

This store recently moved across University Blvd to a location just behind the Outback Steakhouse restaurant. Well stocked with knowledgeable staff that freely offers help and fair pricing too. The best part is they sell many items loose rather than pre-packaged like an old style hardware store. Who wants to buy 24 left handed widgets, when you only need three? You’re in and out of the store in less time than it takes to find a parking space at Home Depot, plus roaming those massive stores looking for the widget aisle.
