Went for my son’s 17th birthday. After spending $ 106 left hungry and my son two hours later was sick to his stomach. Went because of the reviews. We ordered sushi rolls for an appetizer and the waitor brought it without any plates or bowls. We waited for awhile and gave up and ate without plates. We ordered 2 other appetizers and again came out but no individual plates to eat on. When we finished all the appetizers he brought the plates. He told us that the other side was so busy they are running out of plates. Really? My son ordered the tempura udon soup. He got the soup no tempura that was suppose to go in it. He got it 15 mins later. Again another sorry but they are busy in back. I ordered a garlic shrimp noodle dish for $ 14. When I got it I thought I ordered a side dish. Had 6 pieces of noodles and 4 shrimp. Food tasted good but wouldn’t go again.

We went on recommended comments from this site, couldn’t wait to comment, FANTASTIC! sushi was the best I’ve had, presentation appealing, had the best, Godiva chocolate martini and coconut martini in the world! Prices are reasonable for what you are getting a huuuuuge thumbs up! Can’t wait to go back

I like this place for its consistently good quality fresh sushi. I usually get the rolls without a rice wrap, the ones wrapped in cucumber, but I’ve had many other of the rolls, too, also sahimi and nigiri. My non-sushi eating husband will go there with me because he has always enjoyed anything he has ordered. If you like grilled fish, run there and have the«Hamachi Kama», grilled tuna collar that is dreamily succulent and addictive. Have introduced friends to Yume, they like it, too. We have been going there for several years, followed them when they cross the street. It feels comfortable, like our ‘old neighborhood joint’, it is always welcoming, it has ‘heart’. Tried Pacific Rim a few times, but it was snooty and over priced. We gravitate back to Yume. We’ve never been disappointed in anything at this restaurant, we always leave happy.

We’ve eaten at Yume a half-dozen times and found it satisfactory — average sushi, downtown prices, service usually a little off kilter but adequate. Today was by far the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Our children, 7 and 4, chose sushi as a treat for a milestone they had accomplished, and we arrived at Yume at 1 p.m. We sat near the fish tank, which our children were quietly enjoying. Two gentlemen at the bar were talking loudly and using some unsavory swear words. It did not appear they knew children were present. There were only two other tables in the restaurant; one adult table and another table with small kids. We got our kids settled and ordered our food, and I quietly told the waitress that the men were using vulgar language and we’d need to either have that handled or we would need to leave. She didn’t want to confront the men, suggested I do it(not my job), and made 4 trips back and forth to speak with the manager. She kept telling me that she didn’t know what to do, trying to shove the situation back on us, telling us how hard this was for HER, etc… at one point she was just standing at our table for over a minute — staring at us waiting for US to solve the problem for her and whining about how«she’s between a rock and a hard place» because she didn’t want to deal with the issue, but wanted us to stay. She said«if it happens again we’ll deal with it» and I explained that I was not putting my kids in that situation, and there was no reason for it to not be dealt with the FIRST time i called it to her attention… She continued to be extremely awkward, basically implying that we should just ignore the issue or we should go talk to the men ourselves. At one point she said«If you want me to go talk to them, I will» and I replied with«Please. I’ve asked you to do that several times,» but then she suggested I do it instead. She kept hovering over our table demanding our attention, but only complaining about HER feelings about the situation and prodding US to either put up with the swearing or go confront the other customers ourselves. I said three times«We are trying to enjoy our lunch. You can deal with this however you choose.» She kept pressing us, telling us how hard this was for her… I told her a graceful way of handling it might be to just point out to the gentlemen that there were children present and ask them to keep their language appropriate, but even this was too emotionally taxing for the waitress. This went on for several minutes, and then she said she had spoken with the manager and wanted us to move to another table — outside the dining room — away from the fish tank my kids were enjoying — because she«didn’t want to tell other customers what they can talk about.» Since my children and I were comfortable, not misbehaving, and enjoying the fish tank next to our table I saw no reason WE should be punished by having to relocate. We were willing to pay for a nice lunch(and generous tip) for our family to have lunch to celebrate with our kids, but not willing to be forced to eat outside the dining room. We left. And we won’t be back. Thankfully we were able to have a lovely sushi lunch at Drunken Poet down the street without being asked to manage the restaurant ourselves.

I have been to this place before and normally it’s good. Tonight was take out. I ordered avocado maki. That’s it, avocado, seaweed, and rice. If the avocado is the focus of the sushi roll, why on earth would they serve brown over ripe avocado? For real, this isn’t a complicated dish. If saving the cost of an avocado is more important than saving a customer… I’ll just go somewhere else!

I couldn’t give more stars because I think they have to earn it. I would not order sushi sashimi from here, so I ordered a cooked-food. It’s not a Japanese master sushi place. I saw the sushi bar and my intuition was correct. I ordered Himachi Kama thinking it would come like Hamashi Kama but it came out like some regular asian food. Yume is not Yume, not a place for sushi or sashimi. Next time try not to sauce the Hamachi Kama. It’s Hamachi Kama, it should be dry without any sauce; should only come with daikon on the side. Otherwise should change the name to just Yellow Tail with vegetable sauce or something. I think people like coming here because the Japanese food is cheaper than another real Japanese food a few doors down that we went a few times. We wanted to try Yume because I checked the reviews and average reviews were good. When we went there we understood the difference and why the reviews were not meant to be. Hubby ordered sushi sashimi combo on a boated-plate. Unfortunately the boat couldn’t sail! I tried a piece but nothing beats the real sushi-sashimi. Sorry if you folks like sushi-sashimi from here. We also had a tuna tartar appetizer, that was so so. I took some nice pictures of the food, but don’t be fooled by it. Our server was very good, no problem here. In any case, in any restaurants, the food should outweigh the service(first). We go to Sarasota every year but would not come back to this restaurant. Bye bye!

I love this place and how vegan friendly it is! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat, and being vegan at a none vegan restaurant… that is a very awesome thing! The food was really good and the staff was very nice and attentive. I will be back asap!

Sounds like people are having mixed experiences here, but personally the one time I went here it was awesome. The waiter was really nice and professional and the décor is nice and the food is really good. I got vegetable tempura, miso soup, and salad(the salad that comes with the meal, not sure what kind it is). I am not usually a salad person but I actually really enjoyed this salad which is rare for me; the dressing was different from any dressing I have had before and was so good! Also the portions are really good sizes compared with some other similar restaurants in this part of Sarasota. I was quite happy with this place: D

Beautiful ambiance, great service. Roll slices I ordered were on the small side, I got the tuna lovers sushi. But was made to order and delicious! Beautiful presentation!

Busy, reliable restaurant — good quality food, OK service, but both the server and the kitchen made big mistakes on our order without apology or taking responsibility. Food was good enough that I would try it again to give it another go…

The food was so so and it took an hour plus to come out, which we finally got when we complained which we found out the food had just been sitting there. And to top it off the waiter wasn’t nice or friendly.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the food. The Hamachi Kama is really delicious, the lobster roll is fantastic and the Bento box perfect. The service when we went there was bad. I asked for water three times and to top it off, the server did not bother to tell us that the portions are huge and that we should consider ordering less food. Food is 4 stars, Service 2.

Not going to Yume again. We were there over an hour and two out of the five people never even received their meals. We never even received an apology. The waiter simply asked if we would like to have the meals that we didn’t receive taken off our bill! It was terrible all the way around. The first time we went was just OK. And this time could not have been much worse. So this is definitely not a, go back to place.

One word to describe this place… SORRY. Our server was rude and had no personality whatsoever. We ordered chicken tempura as an appetizer, it was like drinking a soup of grease. Our server did not bring us plates and when we ask she replied with«SURE» and walked away. We were a party of four Three of us received our meal while the fourth waited around for about 10 minutes before receiving his food and only to receive the roll with wasabi cream sauce when specifically asked to have without it, that then took about another 15 minutes to get and by then we were all finished eating. Everything seemed to be going wrong and our server had no care in the world. Long story short, don’t go to this place the food is greasy and heavy plus the service is terrible. This is my first and last time here.

Ok sushi. They do look pretty but taste bland. Uncomfortable seating — the faux leather table cloth sticks to your leg like octopus. Fried ice cream was a massive FAIL. The whole point of fried ice cream is hot crunchy coating with cold ice cream inside. If it’s served pre-cut with whip cream on top the ice cream doesn’t remain as cold as it should be by the time it gets to the table. Waste of $ 9.

I’ve stopped by a couple more times since my last review. The service and food just are fantastic. I always order hot green tea which is great as they bring you an individual pot so you always have enough in the pot for 2 more cups of tea. This day I ordered the seaweed salad, my favorite! A Geisha Roll and Hawaiian Roll. Of the 2 rolls, the Geisha wins hands down. It had 3 types of fish and topped with crushed macadamia nuts. It was so creamy and nutty… absolutely delicious. Hawaiian roll was good too. It had cooked shrimp with pineapple, avocado, cream cheese and topped with coconut. I ended up eating one piece and taking the rest home. Hawaiian roll stayed fresh in the frig until the next day and would be great for people that don’t like raw fish.

Sarasota residents love sushi and there are a lot of sushi restaurants in town. But its hard to find one thats open on Saturdays. I was on my was to Drunken Poet and saw that Yume Sushi was open. So I figured I’d give it a try. I was glad I did. My waitress was really sweet and accommodating. I asked her which sushi rolls were popular. She mentioned the Lobster roll but I wasn’t in the mood. So I got her second recommendation, the angel roll. It came in a circle. In the center was cut up sashimi of tuna and salmon with eel sauce and spicy mayo sauce. It melted in my mouth! The sweetness of the eel sauce complimented the fish. I also ordered the rainbow roll. Here is why I only gave a 4 star rating. The fish was very thin on top. I felt a little ripped off. The yellowtail had a slight fishy taste. But the waitress filled my ice tea 3 times. I really liked her. I finished the meal with green tea ice cream, which was creamy and smooth. Check out my pictures!

I went last Sunday for dinner and it was my first time eating at this new location. We sat in a booth which was very uncomfortable; the seating was too tight and the table cloth sticks to your legs when sitting. I ordered the Chirashi which was supposed to have shrimp but they gave me imitation crab meat instead. I was not notified when ordering that there would be a substitution. If I had known, I would not have ordered this as I hate imitation crab meat. We also ordered the Godzilla Roll and the Three-sum Roll. I liked the Godzilla Roll but the Three-sum roll had too much cream cheese. We ended our meal with the Fried Ice Cream(Green Tea). This is the first place I’ve been to where they cut up the Fried Ice Cream into pieces to make it look like a roll of sushi. I did not appreciate this as it made the plate messy within a minute and was hard to eat. I won’t be coming back. I think its unacceptable to substitute imitation crab meat for shrimp and not tell the customer when they are ordering.

Liked: Yume pizza was especially interesting. This had a crispy rice crust and sushi items on top. Our server was attentive unpleasant. The atmosphere was nice. Prices were reasonable. Lobster roll was interesting and quite tasty. The fish was fresh. Disliked: there were no luscious sashimi dishes with flavoring and spices. The caterpillar roll was scrawny. The shrimp roll was mediocre. Overall: pleasant and decent sushi establishment that we enjoyed in Sarasota. There were a few hiccups.
