My daughter and I got there for the haircuts. We like our hair stylist, Mieko. She knows what to do with my daughter’s wavy, curly, unmanageable hair .She gives good advice too.

I’ve gotten permanent hair straightening by Nozomi at Salon Theory about 3 months ago and I’m finally getting around to writing a review. I’ve had frizzy hair all my life; it was my first time getting my hair permanently straightened and I was excited about how it would turn out. The whole process took about 3 – 4 hours, so prepare to spend some time at the salon. It will take longer if you have longer hair. The procedure is similar to what one might expect when getting a perm, but straightening with a flat iron instead of curling. The price was $ 220 which included a haircut. The haircut itself wasn’t that great, and neither was the straightening. I expected my hair to be completely straight afterwards but my bangs were still somewhat wavy. Salon Theory is okay, but I’d recommend you try somewhere else before you come here.

Let me start by saying Nozomi is a very nice person! I enjoyed talking to her. She’s very friendly. I really wish I didn’t have to say anything bad about her. Unfortunately, the haircut I got from her was not so good. It obviously wasn’t even. The right side was much longer than the left. :(I asked her to add some layers, but she just didn’t do it right… Her skills are nowhere near as good as an average stylist in Japan. Yes, I completely agree with you, Y M! She shampooed, cut, and blow dried my hair in just 30 min, which is ridiculously fast. meaning her work was not thorough. I usually get my haircut in Japan when I go there once a year, but I decided to try her because I’d heard good things about her and she charges $ 45(plus tip) which is not bad compared to other Japanese stylists in the area. Unfortunately it was not worth the money. :’( I had a very long hair but ended up cutting 5 inches more than I’d originally planned because of the uneven layers she added.

Nozomi is very nice and will help you decide on what you want. She’s sincere and soo cute ;D Anyways, her skill at both cutting and styling is very good, and also quite fast. Hair wash also felt sooo good. I like the fact that she didn’t try to promote anything else, like coloring, etc, because that always gets annoying. I got a pretty basic cut, just some trimming and new bangs – it was $ 35, I think because I was a student. I tried to tip her… but she wouldn’t accept it, maybe because it’s my first time, and because I’m a student. but… next time :) I would definitely come here again.

I was recommended by a Japanese friend to go to Theory for Notzomi. She is a nice, sincere and patient lady. She discussed with us about what we wanted our haircut to be — which we had not made our minds at the moment. She patiently waited us to flip back and forth those newly-released Japanese hair magazines and tried to tell her what we thought. The results were great! Her skill was very fine and fast. After the haircut, she still spent quite some time blow-drying and styling. She didn’t once persuade us to get a perm or coloring, or anything to make more money. Her cut is 45 dollars before tips. I think It is definitely worth the money.

Overall, I think that this place is worth trying out if you live in South Bay. Nozomi and her staff helped us get ready for a wedding last weekend. They were quite professional in the sense not only they got their jobs done within the time allotted, but made sure we were happy with there service. Everyone from the bride’s party was happy with the hair-do. I received so many compliments after the wedding ceremony, thanks to Salon Theory!

This review is for a Japanese hair stylist. I usually wait to go back to Japan to cut my hair or go to SF. But this time I wanted to try new salon because it was closer to my house. I gave her one star because product she used to dye my hair hurt my scalp so much and her skill was sucks! I never felt that much pain while dying hair before. Her hair cutting skill was far behind from average Japanese hair stylist! My hair wasn’t cut evenly and my back hair was terrible. It looked like her next customer arrived early and she just finished my hair whatever! I will never go back there.
