My birthday weekend with Grigori dawns early for breakfast at Tryon Farm Guesthouse in Michigan City. I am looking to visit the Rubicam gallery in Douglas to check out their inventory of Kyle Ragsdale oils, but i am always in the market for good bakeries. I spot an ad on the pharmacy wall in downtown Saugatuck and must check it out. Caravanserai has been on the Blue Star(beside Pizza Mambo for those familiar with that great little shop) for 10 months. They feature pastries, breads and spreads like tapenade, hummus and other house made items. I chose a baguettte, croissant, cinnamon bun and tapenade. everything is fresh and delicious. The croissant is the correct size(not gigantic like some of the bakers make them for the Green City market in Chicago) and appropriately browned. They have samples on a small table and there are may tasty items to choose from. They also feature French desserts of all description. Of course at noon, the breads and croissant were nearly sold out. Prices were reasonable, understandably less than Chicago. They are entering their second season in this resort haven — show your support if you’re in the area!
