This place has good food, but the Nigiri sushi is a rip-off. I didn’t mind spending a lot for the appetizers and sides as they were made well and very tasty. Likewise, the maki rolls were very good – lots of care was put into them. But if you want nigiri, you pay through the nose. They price it by single pieces, not two pieces, and they charge $ 5 to 10PERPIECE depending on the fish. The found the quality to be just so-so, and not worth the money. Moreover, we ordered a glass of wine and it was anything but chilled. If you’re going to charge more, you’d better be on your game.

Very clean, classical Japanese food. No funky rolls with crazy sauces, not even a California Roll. Service was impeccable, prompt, friendly, knowledgeable. I have to admit, I left a bit hungry… it’s pricy and portions are small. However, this is one of those places where quality reigns, not quantity.

Went to Sushi Ran for a celebration. We reserved a table but we were ½ hour late. They kept our table for us, even tho it was Saturday night. Cool. We arrived at 6:00PM and were seated right away. We ordered edamame, spinach salad and miso soup for apps. Our entrées included two spicy tuna rolls and a Nigorito roll, which is blue fin tuna, wasabi and scallions. The edamame were very good, as was the soup. The miso was prominent in the rich broth. The spinach salad was tasty as well although our guest, who had dined here many times, said it had changed for the worse. I thought it was good. My wife got the Nigorito roll and it was very good. Extremely fresh, with plenty of tuna and a good balance of flavor. She enjoyed it immensely. I had one of the spicy tuna rolls and it too was excellent. Fresh tuna, good umami and bright, crisp sesame seeds. Our service was outstanding and checked in us the right amount. I would definitely return if I was in Sausalito again.
Sushi Ran is a one of those places you can walk by a dozen times and never walk into unless trying to get out of main street crowd dodge. This restaurant, by all measures, is nondescript and flies under the radar outside of its big reputation. The pieces of sushi are the largest I have ever seen, as can be the size of studded stilettos you might see crammed in here on a hot night. It’s a scene, full sweeping gestures and air kisses. If it’s the raw fish you’re really there for, close your eyes to savor its sweet flesh as you chew or let it slowly melt in your mouth. The people are much better dressed than the any of the dishes, and that is what you pay for.

Marin’s best Japanese restaurant — hands down! Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in the Bay Area. Like another favorite — Matsuhisa down south in LA, the décor is nothing to write home about. There is a separate bar and the restaurant itself is quite small but very bright with a welcoming sushi bar. We’ve eaten at the bar and at a table but for this restaurant we prefer to sit at the sushi bar. We do not generally make a reservation but simply wait at the bar until something opens up which typically does not take too long if you are prepared to sit at the bar. The service is excellent and the food is super fresh and very well presented.

Ambience is quite nice. Staff knowledgeable. Food is extremely tasty, however it’s not cheap. Dinner for two with only a glass of wine each cost $ 225. Still, the uni we had was unbelievably tasty. Sea Urchins and Second Chances | The Secret of My SucCecil

Sushi Ran is on my top 10 sushi places in the Bay Area. Reservations recommended. Please do Omakase and sit at the bar. They have a good amount of bar seating. Piece by piece was amazing. Love watching the sushi chefs make its piece. It’s like art. The fish was fresh and everything was tasty. It’s not the best I had but its good. Can’t wait to come back.

A disappointing 1st experience at sushi ran to celebrate Mother’s Day. The hostess(Sabrina) was clearly stressed & unfriendly & not at all welcoming. She then proceeded to tell me my reservation was at 7.30 not 6.30 despite me pulling up the opentable app & showing her. Instead of being gracious she complained I didn’t tell her I needed a high chair… despite me phoning earlier in the week & specifically requesting a high chair. It seems they switched from opentable to resy & we’re experiencing issues… but this really wasn’t my problem. Long story short… really poor experience… due to the hostess.

I have one criteria for sushi — the fish has to be fresh. The fish at Sushi Ran is very fresh — so points there. We started our meal off with the sashimi platter — which consisted of two pieces each of five different types of sashimi. Some places are very conservative in how they slice their sashimi, but not here. They were very generous with the fish. We followed the sashimi with their combination tempura. Again, the portion was perfect for two, and most important, not greasy. Nothing turns me off as much as lifting my tempura out of a pool of grease. In addition, we tried several of their daily special sushi offerings as well as a spicy tuna roll. Although it may not sound like we ate all that much, what we had was more than enough for two healthy appetites. Sushi Ran may not be cheap, but I will say that between the quality of food and the generous portions, you don’t feel like you are not getting your money’s worth. We’re looking forward to visiting again.

Before I say anything about the food or service, you must know that I HIGHLY recommend reservations. I came by on a Monday night around 6:30-ish and while there were plenty of open tables, it was a 45-minute wait because all the tables were for reservations. Welp. The great thing is that the bar counter is open seating and the full menu is available there. The bf and I settled for the bar counter because ain’t nobody got 45 minutes to wait for a table when they hongry. The bartender(I forgot to get her name) was FANTASTIC. She was so friendly and attentive the entire time we were there. No doubt 5 stars for the service. Now for the food. The menu is short and to the point — one page, back and front. On one side is the sushi(nigiri, sashimi, rolls) and the other side are appetizers, hot/cold dishes and soup. I wish they had a slightly larger nigiri selection(no squid or scallop nigiri listed and I wasn’t sure if we could order things off menu or if there were specials). Crunch roll: YUM. I’m not a fan of eel, but this was very tasty. The tempura flakes really gave it a nice, «toasty» flavor. Negitoro roll: There is wasabi in the roll, but you can barely taste it(not a con, just a FYI). Creamy scallop roll: Definitely my favorite roll! «Creamy» is the perfect way to describe it, and all the roe on top adds great texture. Honmaguro — Very smooth and light Binchomaguro — Buttery and soft Umi masu — Shiso leaf was the perfect complement Aji — Meh Kinmedai — Had a great smokey flavor Zuke chu toro — Good flavor, but the texture was a bit… The meat was stiffer and less buttery than I expected Zuke sake — I’m not a salmon fan but really enjoyed this. It was super creamy/fatty tasting without being overwhelming. I think they may have seared it a tad even though that’s not noted on the menu Menuke — One of my favorites of the meal! The fish had a nice crunchy/chewy bite, and the lemon juice was a perfect pairing Fresh wasabi is available! Hamachi kama — This was the first time I had hamachi kama, so I can’t say how good it is compared to others or if this is legit but I enjoyed it a lot. While I love all things sushi and sashimi, I don’t really care for cooked fish(go figure!). But this was really good! The skin was grilled perfectly, so crispy and flavorful. The meat itself was just perfect and chunks would just fall off the bone. Ponzu is ponzu haha I wish they gave two lemon wedges instead of one. I personally like the acidity with cooked fish. As of writing this review, it seems like the nigiri listed on Sushi Ran’s website is different from what’s on the actual restaurant menu. The menu does say that there is seasonal variation/depends on what’s at the fish market, so that may be why. Printing out a menu every day must be such a hassle, plus bad for the environment =/ The fish was super fresh at Sushi Ran, and I think pretty reasonably priced for the quality and taste. The nigiri were a good size, and I’m no expert on the fish to rice ratio but I thought it was a good ratio. We went to Sushi Ran because we had a gift card. I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to come here in the future even though I really enjoyed the food and service. I’d definitely make reservations the next time around because dat wait is no joke. Plus after all that food, I was satisfied but not full — I could’ve eaten more, but that’s always the case with sushi: P

This place is such a cute and romantic date spot :) I’ve been here twice and have not been disappointed by the quality of the food either times. Be prepared to spend a lot of money, this place is pricey! However, it really is worth it because the quality of the food and freshness of the seafood is what you pay for. I’ve pretty much tried a majority of the menu at this point and everything’s pretty good. My favorites are the sashimi cuts and the foie gras potstickers. Exploded with flavor but I do wish there was more foie gras in it. The raw oysters were also really good, super fresh but on the small side. All of the sashimi selections are fresh, melt in your mouth quality *drool* Stay away from the rolls! Nothing too special about any of the rolls so don’t bother wasting your money. The only complaint that I have would be the service. The second time I came here, our server didn’t seem like she knew anything about the food so her recommendations were vague and not very helpful. Seemed like she just steered us towards the priciest items on the menu. She also wasn’t very attentive to her tables and didn’t check up on us at all. We actually had to flag down servers from different sections to help us. With a bill that pricey, good quality food, and for a really nice restaurant, the service should’ve matched. Food is crazy good so I will continue coming back :)

A solid place to have fresh sushi, but it wasn’t the best I ever had. Being spoiled with great sushi restaurant all around the Bay Area, I find that Sushi Ran has slowly become a thing of the pass. It was once good, but now there are even better sushi places… Don’t get me wrong, the fish was fresh, but I wasn’t «WOW» by any of their dishes. Even the dessert was very disappointing too! However, the service was great and attentive. Overall, I might come back to this place if I was in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way just to eat sushi here. I also saw Tyler Florence that night. Whoot! Woot!

Just about everyone we encountered recommended we try the sushi here and it did not disappoint. Pure and simple flavors with natural but unique embellishments really highlight what sushi is supposed to be and bring out the natural deliciousness of the fish. No sugared rice(most American sushi places do this which is ridiculous and unnecessary) no cream cheese(don’t get me wrong, I love cream cheese in rolls) no goopy sauce, just authentic Japanese sushi. I enjoyed some of the unique pairings such as salmon and pear, whitefish with cherry blossom and so much more. Go early, one of the few places on Sausalito that filled up quick.

So I’ve been to many different sushi places, but so far this is one of my favorites. This is my second time coming to Sushi Ran(the first a regular table seat, this time sushi bar seats), and I have to say — I’m never going back to regular table seats. My boyfriend generally doesn’t like nigiri sushi too much(but I love it), so we originally picked this place for their kaisen futo-maki roll and the great nigiri selection; best of both worlds! We decided to try the sushi bar this time. We started with the omakase, and then proceeded to order a few nigiris that we knew we liked. The fish is really fresh, and the time that the chef took to prepare each piece was amazing. In general, I would rank this on my top list of omakase(I personally liked it more than Maruya in SF and Nobu in Vegas). The type of nigiri that was presented included both the normal type(various types of fish and rice nigiris), but also some unique ones. This was the first time I had oyster sushi(raw oyster, caviar, yuzu sauce and rice), and it was amazing. Not only that, but the raw shrimp sushi was interesting(and fun to watch him prepare). The thing that really set Sushi Ran apart from the other high end sushi places that I’ve visited was the last three pieces. The omakase has an option to «keep going» which essentially means, let the chef make whatever they want. The last 2 dishes was what set this place apart for me. Our chef had a ton of fun making brand new(pricy, but delicious) nigiris for us. The first one was wagyu, pear, lemon, black truffle and gold flakes. And the last one was toro, Bonita leaf, and seared salmon skin. These were probably my favorite out of all the omakase and nigiri we ordered, and they were all on-the-spot chef creations! Definitely something that you can’t get at a table. The chef also had some fun preparing the pear dessert for us. All in all, Sushi Ran is great if you do omakase. It’s fresh, the chefs are fun and the price is decent. It’s slightly on the pricey side, but surprisingly, compared to the two most expensive sushi places that my boyfriend and I have had, we still prefer Sushi Ran.

Lives up to the hype! The restaurant is beautiful and has impeccable service. They were so attentive and friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable especially for the quality. My boyfriend and I walked in a weekday for dinner and there was no wait. For the appetizers we got the seaweed salad($ 10). It was a colorful dish and you could taste how fresh the seaweed was. The texture was great and the sauce was a perfect combo. I definitely recommend this as a dish to start. We got the manila clam miso soup($ 6). It was flavorful with large pieces of clam but didn’t really stand out to me. We ordered the crunch roll($ 18) which had eel, crab, and shrimp. WOW that was my favorite roll! Amazing flavors mixed together. I loved the creamy scallop roll($ 10.50). It practically melted in your mouth. The salmon & pear roll($ 10) was unique with the crunchiness of the pear and softness of the salmon. It might not be for everyone. The highlight of the meal for me was actually the grilled hamachi kama which was yellowtail with ponzu sauce($ 20). It was a nice serving size and the fish was soo soft and buttery. MUSTTRY! We added a side of green beans and rice for $ 5 which I might not get next time since I’d rather fill up on delicious sushi. Finally despite how ridiculously full we were we got the dessert sampler($ 13). All of the desserts were great but by far our favorite was the coconut mochi cake. I would order an entire plate of this next time. Overall one of my favorite restaurants!

WOW… just WOW! So much to say about this place. If you love sushi, then this restaurant has to be on your list. I’ve been to many sushi places and this was the first time I had sushi and it just melt in your mouth. I’ll take you guys through the journey my family and I had. *Manila Clam Miso Soup I was thinking I was gonna get a small bowl of miso soup here, but nope. I had enough for at least 2 or 3. It was the best miso soup I’ve ever had, The broth was good, the clams were good, and I just wasn’t expecting anything special about the soup. *Seaweed Salad Again, I was thinking of a traditional seaweed salad. I mean what can you do to a seaweed salad to elevate it? So when it gets served, visually I am impressed. The colors are vibrant. With every bite you can distinguish different types of seaweed. You have you sweet taste of seaweed, and even a earthy flavor in there as well. There is even avocado tucked into the salad. After having the soup and the salad I could tell it was gonna be a great night. *Assortment of Nigiri This was probably the disappointment of the night for me. I was looking forward to trying their Nigiri because based on the pictures I’ve seen it just looks so to fresh and I thought, probably the reason why people came. But the fish we did have was just okay, Nothing special. I couldn’t rave about how fresh it was or anything. Just felt like I was let down here. *Sushi Rolls Salmon And Pear — The best roll of the night for me. As I mentioned at the start of my review, this was the first time I had sushi melt in my mouth. But with this one, you get the creamy salmon, great sushi rice, then you get a sweet and crunchy pear for texture, and it creates a savory and sweet bite. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever put a pear in a sushi roll. But the chefs here are genius because it works. *Shoutout to all the Pears! Shrimp Tempura Roll — This was different. I love shrimp tempura and the actually tempura inside was delicious. Wish I could have just had a order of it on the side. The sushi roll also had little shrimp garnishes on every piece which also add texture, Not the best tempura roll our but a different perspective. Creamy Scallop Roll — Another impressive roll. I don’t really order rolls with scallops in my sushi but this one is a must. The scallop has a lot of flavor and with the avocado it balances out to create a super creamy roll. Just looking at it you can tell its soft. But it really does taste as great as it looks. Crunch Roll — One of the most expensive rolls on their menu. It reminds of a inverse Dragon one, because the eel is on the inside. The roll was delicious, my favorite thing about this roll is the crunchy flakes they added on top. It unique and I haven’t seen it in green because the added seaweed. I wouldn’t say that this one is must have, but its worth a try. Spicy Tuna — A simple staple of your everyday day sushi menu… And somehow its elevated too. The tuna off the top looks fresh, and the spices they put on top of it is what makes it memorable. Can I buy that topping from you guys? Cause I would love to have that in my pantry for my sushi nights. *Dessert We had the sampler because we wanted everything. A great meal is always topped of with a great dessert to seal the deal. My favorite dessert was the Mascarpone Ice Cream. First time I’ve had it so now I’m gonna be a snob about it and hold it the standard of Sushi Ran. The sorbet and gelato were both refreshing. Im not a fan on coconut so I didn’t try that. The chocolate cake was good. If you want to try them all, then I suggest the platter. But next time I come back, I will be back for the Mascarpone. I really enjoyed my experience here at Sushi Ran. I was expecting more Japanese dishes to choose from, and they also have a small sushi menu, but Its all good. The chefs really understand sushi and what elements to use to create a memorable dish. I say that because it isn’t always about having the freshest fish, or as much as I like multiple types of fish and seafood on a roll, that doesn’t necessary make the sushi thee best rolls or even good. Most of the rolls are simple, but there is a reason why I’ve only seen it executed here, and thats because they have a great understanding of sushi. So I applaud you guys for a memorable experience. The staff here also matched the great food with great service, a big thank you to George who served my family. I appreciate that he was genuine with us, as well always checking up on us.

Our friend said we were in for a treat, when he suggested we dine here. After learning Sushi Ran are michelin rated I said absolutely yes! It wasn’t until just drafting my review that I recalled some of my Unilocal lady friends had also recommended this place. Ladies your were spot on — I loved it! We walked in with no reservation and were quickly seated at a large table with window view. First things first; service here is exceptional! There was never a moment that we had to wait for any beverage refill, placement of additional orders or removal of dishes. Our server was knowledgable about the menu and equipped to offer solid recommendations when asked. To start, we began with a bowl of miso soup. Though I enjoyed the mushrooms and green onions, the broth could have used just a sprinkle more of sea salt. Our sashimi platter was amazing! As was the unagi. We ordered 2 plates of sashimi so our table could have a variety of options, definitely worth i! I also ordered what I thought was fresh mackerel, but ended up being half of a fried fish. including the head. I didn’t try it, but the others in my group said was was very good. The star of the evening was hands down the Toro. The seared fish blew me away with its tangy, buttery texture. The bits of garlic were an added bonus that absorbed the peppered sauce. Everyone at the table wanted more! Next time that I come here I want to sit at the bar. I want to see what ‘specialties’ the chef will share that are not on the menu.

FABULEUX A ESSAYERABSOLUMENT
