Definitely a 5-star place, I’d think the food is very authentic. Had Chicken Makhani and Fish Tikka Masala, loved both. Also, lassi is great(both plain and mango). Not all servers speak great English so beware when ordering. 1 on their scale of spicy is «zero spicy», not«a bit spicy».

Super cool thing is, you get a 10% off when you check in. Good ambience. Feels like an authentic Nepali restaurant. Momos are decent, I’ve had better. Tried the Nepali beer — Mustang and it was really good. Goat curry was amazing. Garlic Cilantro Naan tasted pretty good. Service is really good. Very sweet people. However, we got screwed with the authentic Nepali chicken dish, JASHAMAARO. It was tasteless. Rice wasn’t good either.

One of the best Himalayan restaurant in San Francisco area, great authentic food made in front of you in an open kitchen. Great service and great ambience. Definitely will be coming back for some more Momos(dumplings).

Love this restaurant. Excellent vegetarian fares and lovely staff. Quite different from Indian food even though they do have man bread.

My husband and I made the trek across the bridge for a last minute date night after craving some Indian food and I was absolutely blown away by our meal. As we waited for our meal to come we were brought a daal soup on the house which was a great way to begin and warmed us up on a cold, rainy night. For appetizers we ordered an assortment of momos — 2 lamb, 2 chicken and 2 vegetable and WOW — I’ve been to Nepal twice and miss these incredible dumpling-like snacks and it felt like I was back there. Very authentic with a delicious tomato based chutney, I could eat these every day for sure! For entrees we ordered the coconut chicken curry and the alu cauli matar — some vegetables in a thicker daal like soup. We also got some rice, garlic cilantro naan and raita on the side. Both dishes were incredibly delicious, and made mild as requested. The coconut chicken curry is so good I could bath in it and topped off with the raita which was just the right thickness and included nice bite-sized pieces of cucumber — oh man, I’ll be coming back for sure! We finished with a coconut kulfi with a mango sauce for dessert and again, delicious and authentic. After some terrible experiences with Indian restaurants in the SF I am SO happy we’ve found this place and look forward to coming back again soon, only wish it was closer! Thanks for your great service, beautiful restaurant and delicious food — I’m your new lifetime customer!

Overpriced dishes, about $ 5 more expensive from other similar restaurants for every dish. Service was bad. The women next to us was vegan and was suggested and served a dish with cheese(paneer). Food wise, some dishes were okay(tandoori) but all other dishes lack flavor and was just lacking in salt(goat curry, potato curry, momo). The portion was small even the rice. This is one of the worst Nepali restaurant I’ve been to and will never return. Highly recommend NOT to dine here.

Great staff, yummy food, cute little place. Used the 10% off Unilocal offer which was cool. The coconut naan was SO good. Will be back.

Five stars are not enough — can we please give ten? twenty? It is our first night on our honeymoon and we were driving around and swung in — and thank god we did! The food was AMAZING, and like someone below said, the cherry naan is addicting. The garlic and rosemary naan was so fresh, I have no idea why someone is comparing it to olive garden. The samosas we destroyed, as well as our meals. Service was top notch, so attentive and caring, and we even got a special honeymoon dessert! The ambiance is perfect — well decorated and relaxing, some place I could sit and drink chai for hours. With beer and chai, we checked out at $ 60 for drinks, app, two meals, and two orders of naan — so whoever said it was pricey, sorry have to disagree. We’ll be back… tomorrow? we wish! perhaps before we leave town though :))

I came here with a groupon after reading all the Unilocal reviews. My other half and I ordered garlic cilantro naan, the lamb bhanta, and the coconut chicken. The naan was tasty but a little bit too much garlic. The coconut chicken unfortunately didn’t have more than 4 small cubed pieces of chicken and was not properly salted. The lamb bhanta came with more meat as well as delicious eggplant. Overall the portions were average, although, the prices were above average. We paid $ 45 for these dishes. The staff was super friendly though. They are all genuinely kind and respectful. If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars. I probably wouldn’t come here without the groupon deal, however, with the deal, the experience was average.

Vegan, vegetarian and omnivore dishes. We got a 10% Unilocal*discout with the touch of a fingertip. Five of us ordered Chana Masala, Chicken Tandoori, Fish Tandoori, lamb bhanta, lamb masala, onion naan, pakoras, pista kulfi coconut ice cream with mango sauce, plain naan bread, and a ‘tasty’ Taj Mahal beer, chai, mint lemonade, and excellent service by the lovely knowledgeable, well-travelled Utsav. Instead of basmati rice for our base, we ordered brown rice. Some of the best-cooked I’ve eaten. We found the medium curry mild enough for natives of Prince Edward Island. Next time I’ll order the hot. Even with an Utsav warning. We all shared all dishes. We enjoyed all. I enjoyed the masala sauces. The tandoori dishes came out sizzling, Tibetan fajitas or pot stickers. The tandoori meats were tender, flavorful and delicious. We had particular fun with the icy hard coconut ice cream rectangles. When fork sliced with great crashing pressure, I scored many points in coconut ice cream table hockey. Ping, ping, ping. The mango sauce is an excellent projectile lubricant. Several of us got bullet-served dessert. If you order ice cream, give it five minutes to thaw.

Really not terribly great food. All three dishes were bland, that included flavor and spice level. I mean, we go medium and there was no spice to speak of at all in my vindaloo. The garlic naan every one raves about? It took me a few bites but I recognized where I had tasted it before… Olive Garden. It was just like their bread sticks. This is fine food. It’s fresh. It’s just not tasty at all. If you’re from the flyovers and visiting it’ll suit you, I’m sure. For locals there is much, much better to choose from.

Taste of the Himalayas is an atmospheric Nepali eating establishment with delicious food! I needed a place to meet my vegetarian aunt in Sausalito. Having visited Nepal I was excited to try this place. The building itself is nicely decorated inside and out. The entryway is reminiscent of Durbar Square and is covered with authentic prayer flags., inside dark wood, beautiful photography of Nepali people and religious sites, and small touches like hand made Nepali salt and pepper shakers create an exotic Himalayan atmosphere. The service was friendly and personable. The food is varied, Nepal, Bhutanese, Indian and others. We had several questions and the were directed patiently toward some popular dishes which were exquisite. We split the Beet Salad, Momo and Naan as starters. The beet salad came with soft goat cheese and a delicious light and fresh tasting dressing. The Momo was unlike anything I’ve tried before. Close to a stiffed wonton, but the sauce was amazing. The Naan was highly reviewed but I found it lightly crispy, but bland. For an entrée I had the Tandoori chicken with white rice. The flavor was very good but I wished the portion was slightly larger for the price. I also tried a Nepali beer called Mustang(pronounced MOO-stahng) which was cool both because it’s Nepali and beside it’s a homonym for an American muscle car. It was light with some body, a good summer beer. We also had quite a long conversation with our server about the earthquake relief effort and the restaurant’s direct involvement. Our server said that the restaurant owners and staff all have family in Nepal who were affected in various ways. Great food, service and warm memories of a beautiful country and beautiful people makes Taste of the Himalayas is high recommendation! I recommend taste of the Himalayas to anyone who enjoys ethnic food.

Good thing I had a deal from Unilocal for this one. Otherwise, I probably would not have come because the prices are a bit steeper than I am used to paying. The food 5 stars. The atmosphere, lovely. Although, The tables are quite close to others and it can get a little cramped feeling. I almost feel awkward not introducing myself to the people sitting next to me because I am practically sitting on their laps and smelling their food. Ha! The portions were also very small for me. I can really get my grub on. So that was a little disappointing. For the amount of food you get and the price at the end(even with the discount), I probably won’t be coming back. I can find less expensive Himalayan food that tastes just as good elsewhere. But, if you are in the mood to really treat yourself to some good tasting food and don’t mind eating small portions, go. You will enjoy.

THENAAN DOITFORTHENAAAAAAN Food: The food here is so good I think I am salivating thinking about it. I ordered the eggplant + tofu curry dish and it came with brown rice and some lentil soup. The soup comes in a tiny teacup and was slightly buttery and very delicious. The eggplant dish I ordered was more oily than how I generally like my food but it was so flavorful and amazing I really didn’t give a single shit. We ordered a side of cherry infused naan on the side. I think they put crack in it because I am now addicted.(jk don’t worry there won’t be drugs in your food but seriously it’s REALLY delicious.) Ambiance: I really felt connected with the Nepalese culture when I was eating here as dumb weird as that probably makes me sound, but the décor, the dishware, as well as the staff made me feel like I was transported to Nepal and eating somewhere besides a generally yuppy Sausalito. Price: The dish I ordered was $ 15 including the rice and soup, not bad but not super cheap. Parking: There’s a lot behind the place, and we found parking right in front of the place. Totally coming back for the naan!!!

Haven’t been here since 2 years ago. The food is even better than the last time we were here. Perhaps a tad pricey, but top quality ingredients and preparation. I had the goat on the bone curry which was good but a little bit of a hassle to eat. The grilled rack of baby lambchops was a clear 5 stars and much easier to eat. Finger foods. Just pick em up and chow down. The lamb was a better taste plus easier to eat. I think I’d skip the goat next time. The very highly rated garlic nann bread was just okay. I wish I’d have looked at the menu to see all the other variety of nann. I’d recommend the Onion Kulcha at India Palace in Mill Valley near Goodmans which is tops, 6 stars. This review is backwards, because we started with 3 different flavors of Momo’s the Tibetan dumping appetizers which were different and good.

This review is for a spiritual event we had catered. The food was delicious! Nuance in the coconut curry was just perfect. Dried fruits, nuts just the right amount of sweet hot balance. I could not enough of the sublime feast! To top it off the owner himself works the stove right in front of you creating these sumptuous delights. A family business, it seems to be the answer to what every Indian-Nepalese fusion restaurant should aspire to. Thanks so much for a great experience. We’ll be back…

This review is long overdue since I have had several meals at the restaurant during the last few months. However, since I am part of the Fond of Goat organization, I have had the same dish on each of those occasions — their Goat Curry, Khasi ko Masu accompanied by rice and naan. Although the scope of the dishes I have tried is admittedly limited, the quality of their goat curry is exceptional — in fact at our most recent lunch there we awarded them a F.O.G. Hall of Fame certificate for the dish. Apart from the quality of the food, the service is warm and welcoming. The staff is proud of their Nepali culture and cuisine and happy to share information about their home country. May we recommend to any who may be interested in exploring Taste of the Himalayas’ goat cuisine that you read the article«The Bridge that Connects America with my Nepali Homeland: Goat,» that appeared in last month’s Washington Post — . The author, Anup Kaphle, is one of the Post’s editors and is passionate about goat. Khasi ko Masu is one of the dishes he describes there and he also provides a recipe for it, and for another Nepali dish, Blackened Goat(Kaalo Maasu), which we hope to see on the TOTH menu sometime soon!

I have to say that redemption is more than a Bob Marley song. It’s also going back to this place after a two year hiatus and going into a food trance followed by a delightful food coma. I avoided goat this time around(although there was a small gathering of goat meat enthusiasts while I was there) and ordered up chicken korma with plain nan. There was nothing plain about either. The korma had just the right amount of cream and the spice calibration was perfect. The nan was chewy and puffy, lightly salted and decadently rubbed with butter. Both were ridiculously freshly prepared. In fact I could see the cooks in the open kitchen plying their craft. The older gentleman had a traditional Nepalese hat on for good measure. Our waiter was super friendly and did a brief interview with the goat meat fanatics(their was a flyer on the front door proclaiming the event). It turns out the goat meat is sources from Half-Moon Bay. It’s good to know where your goat comes from I suppose. It’s a slippery slope friends. One moment you’re innocently eating chicken korma and checking in on Unilocal, then suddenly you’ve joined a goat meat aficionado’s club. My parents gave me lots of talks while I was growing up but they did not prepare me for how to handle a goat meat lovers club. My curiosity(and desire for the killer T-shirt of the Golden Gate Bridge with goat emblem) just may get the better of me. It will not be the first time. It will not be the last. Stay hungry amigos.

Best Indian food in Marin. Maybe even the Bay Area. Hands down. So good, I went back and re-rated other Indian food places I had given 5 stars previously, 4 stars, because after eating here several times, nothing else deserves a 5. This is a 5. I have always ordered take out. I could eat there; I don’t know why I don’t. But I have to admit(guilty pleasure alert!) that I like curling up with a good book in my comfy chair at home, eating, reading, and occasionally checking my phone. Its my thing. Sometimes this happens in bed instead of the chair. Let me live. The naan. Yeah. The garlic naan is just… perfect. I mean, really. I have over 300 reviews on here; no need for me to exaggerate. The garlic naan is perfectly buttery, perfectly browned. I’ve had the chicken tikka masala(phenomenal; flavorful; thick; just spicy enough). I’ve had the chicken vindaloo curry(very good; flavorful; thick; just spicy enough). You can order online, which I adore. 5 stars.
