Exciting culinary venture, «The Vines», presents a tasty alternative to the local Alpine-themed city of Helen. *That*, it’s «tastiness», coupled w excellent staff, an eloquent, Japan-loving Chef, and owners who are pushing the envelope — deserve your attention. Atlanta folk should try it out on short cabin holidays, or, just because. The large parties of locals attests to the quality food we experienced. It was incredible. Wagyu(«Japanese”-beef) raised in Texas and a delicious pâté w hints of horseradish made for a memorable Charcuterie Plate. Rainbow Trout in sizable portions dusted in hazelnut flour, the Kobe Meat Loaf was tantalizing. The complements: slightly-spicy pumpkin-based soup(our Soup du Jour), fresh Vineyard salad w grapes, candied pecans & fresh Gorgonzola, we knew we discovered a true gem. The chef’s fascination w Japan was impetus for several unique offerings. Wine list? Unknown to me, Georgia is home to a healthy number of wineries. Of which, close to 70 wines to choose from and a healthy number of German and Belgian beers as well as some local micro-brews. Suggest you try local offerings: we were happiest w the sweeter varieties. The Vines works w local wineries to create demand & grow interest in the unique food & lure oenophiles to the area. One local winery was providing a wine tasting in the adjacent room. In fact, a 5 course Tasting Menu is matched w some of the more exciting wines — a true«farm-to-table» cuisine(French Onion; Beet Goat Cheese Salad; Rainbow Trout; Wagyu Skirt Steak & Chocolate Fondue). Going to Helen? The Vines is one delicious joynt … Reservations are suggested.
