Windmill Cafe

I’m so glad we came across this cute little café! Reminds me of my grandmas cooking. Super homey and we had the best service. The portions are huge! Also helps that it’s very inexpensive… we were shocked when we received our bill. Please visit this place!

The breakfast food is good. The country fried steak was dinner right and not too fatty. The rest was standard breakfast fare, not the best but definitely not bad. The place is very small and chilly in the winter. The restroom was an interesting experience too. It’s a fairly typical greasy spoon café. It’s good, just know what to expect before you go. I’d rate it between 3 and 4 stars if the app allowed it.

Just what you would expect from a small town old school café. The place is small, typical breakfast and burger menu with a few good sandwich options thrown in. I ordered the Hot Beef sandwich and biscuits and gravy. Everything was well seasoned and portions are generous, price is spot on. This isn’t exactly a place making everything from scratch and they only serve lunch and diner from 11am till 2pm? Breakfast all day, this is why I give them a 4 out of 5.

Delicious food for a reasonable price. Had the chicken fried steak and it was great. Don’t let the appearance steer you away. Come and try.

Traditional breakfast items were pretty standard. Hash Browns were fantastic, eggs were good, toast was fine. I ordered the 8oz breakfast steak and eggs, and the cut of meat they used was super lean. It didn’t bode well for a flattop cooked breakfast steak. Aside from the cut of meat, the doneness was all over the place. One end was super rare, and the other end was well-​done. I ate a couple bites and pushed it aside. Steak wasn’t seasoned at all.
I will be back, but I warn you not to get the steak and eggs.

Large portions, crisp bacon and hash browns. Toast has real butter!!! Eggs, ya they have um, anyway you want!!! Pancakes!!! Ya!!! Its breakfast!!!
Seating is tight, old crapy tables, chairs from the 1900’s!!! But who cares its breakfast and they do a damn good job!
And they take credit cards!!! Welcome to the 2000’s.

Timing: Within 5 minutes of entering the place, we had hot coffee. Within around 5 more minutes, we had our breakfast (no lie).
Attentiveness: The server there was very attentive about our coffee refills.
Location: A bit tricky to get to.
Space: Even with every table full, it didn’t feel that crowded. Décor makes the place seem like it’s catering to the blue collar folk still living in the 80’s. I don’t mind it.
Food Quality: Average. Not a fan of the processed cheese used in the omelet. Everything was pretty basic.
Payment: Only takes cash/​check so that’s a bummer for anyone living in today’s world. The prices are fine for what you get.
Overall: Not a bad place but there are plenty of better options if you want larger portions, better quality food, and/​or a more comfortable atmosphere.

Great food, fair prices. Small town feel :). We came on a Saturday morning, and though most seats were taken, we got our food quickly. Will be coming back again.

Very good breakfast. Good service. Continuous coffee refills. Definitely would go back.

Food/​Drink: Greasy spoon south of the river. Small cozy place and the food follows suit, almost too much and you might find yourself thinking you could do this in your kitchen. The highlight of my combo plate were the pancakes (and warm syrup), everything else was pretty basic. I’ll come back to try a ham an cheese omelet to hopefully give them a better review.
Ambiance: Diner with a little more space and slightly better layout. You’ll feel equally comfortable here as you would in your grandmas house (assuming she was from MN). The exterior matches perfectly, dirt parking lot and a windmill to boot.
Service: Good. Menus right away, refills and our order taken. Food brought out piping hot. Coffees refilled right away.
Overall: I knew what I was getting into when I was going there, but I had to since I haven’t been there before. So if you need a greasy spoon diner in Savage, Prior Lake area, this is the place to go.

Terrible location, food is poor, service is bad and they only take cash or check. I would recommend another local restaurant to the area. The windmill is just not that good and the food is overpriced. It appeared to get a lot of customers but they all seemed irritated by lack of service. The kitchen is about the size of my master bathroom, so there isn’t much room for them to cook and keep up with patrons.

Been here three times. Great breakfast. Price is fair. Good breakfast value

It’s not a greasy spoon per se but more like a dive bar with good food that serves no liquor.
Food is good and fresh.
Throwback type of place.
Wear a sweatshirt or sweater in winter cause door opens and cold comes in.

It was fine. .. Definitely an old diner in a cement block building. Staff was friendly. Food was fine although I think the cheese in my veggie omelet tested like processed cheese which I would probably leave out. Prices are maybe a little high. The has browns and French toast were fabulous!

We went to Windmill on Sunday after several people suggested this as the place to go for after church breakfast. The Windmill is a little block concrete, non-​descript place. But don’t let looks deceive. We enjoyed a very solid well cooked brunch that was reminiscent of an old style dinner. And it looked like a lot of others already knew it, as the place was always packed. We will be back!

Tried it today after years of driving by and wondering. Don’t let the outside appearance steer you away. It’s nice inside… Old school diner… Just what the world is running out of in large cities. Good food, I had the eggs benedict, yum. The other reviews on this place got it right. No need for me to duplicate on mine.

If you love a good greasy spoon dive, this is the place for you. Breakfast is served all day, I had a patty melt and it was delicious.
Mainly locals here, so no need to wear your Sunday best.

Good casual home cooking at a good price. Very friendly staff with good service. It’s not a place you take company from out of town, but for a Saturday morning blue jean breakfast, it is great!

Hey, I liked this place and you will too, if you’re looking for a diner. Good food (not great) but good for the prices. Hot from the kitchen and made to order. Yes, it is small but that’s how diners are supposed to be.
And they DO take credit cards…

Where to start?
Well, it might be the smallest eatery I’ve ever been to, but there was plenty of seating to be sure. Mostly because of the lack of customers.
I can’t decide if there was no one there because of the location, the outer appearance, or the rap music blaring from the kitchen area.
Make sure you bring your checkbook or cash, cuz no cards accepted here.
All of the three people in there turned and looked at us as we walked in as if we were from another planet. I feel as if the group of trucker-​esque folks that were currently in the joint were more than likely the few patrons of the place.
I will give them credit on the food itself, cuz it was fantastic and the price was good. The food was prepared as if I had done myself in my own kitchen. Which I guess isn’t saying much, because I am a terrible cook. But you get what I’m saying. Everything seemed to be pretty fresh and full of flavor. Large portions as well.
All in all. i would go there again for a quaint Sunday breakfast.
