What a find! I came in looking for a few things and the gals were so kind and helpful, not the fake«Hi, welcome» routine. A genuine hello and welcome and if we can help you find anything let us know, have a look around. I asked about a couple of books about Savannah as I had just moved here and was shown about a half dozen with explanations on each. I bought three books and will certainly be back! This place rocks! I would much rather keep the money local and not go to the big box stores if I can.

This is my favorite local bookstore in Savannah and one of my favorite local bookstores anywhere. It is just so classy. There are multiple rooms full of all sorts of books. I also really love the old maps and prints of Savannah they have here. The local books selection is really nice. Highly recommended for a peruse.

A charming bookstore, sure. But the rude, unfriendly staff was a surprise. I purchased just about $ 200 worth of books, and nicely asked if they could put them in a cloth bag for me because they were heavy. I was rudely informed that there’s an $ 18 charge for a cloth bag. Then I was told I could have a free $ 15CD of music I’ve never heard of. I responded that a cloth bag would be better. She shook her head at me and said I need to spend $ 250 to get a free bag. She then abruptly turned away from me. I left with three heavy books bulging out of thin, plastic bags. I’ll never go back. This is the reason people go to Amazon. The books I bought here are cheaper on Amazon, and you don’t have to suffer someone’s attitude.

Small shop but well laid out and with a lot of titles relating to Savannah. Plus a good amount of Civil War titles. Some contempoary best sellers. My wife picked up a book about gardening in Southern climate. Worth a quick stop if you are visiting Savannah. Located on Bull Street, the northeast corner of Madison Square.

I love bookstores, I use to even work in one and this one is wonderful. They are spaced out and not crowded like another bookstore in town. The staff was super friendly and when they didn’t have the book I was looking for they were able to order it for me.

This is a wonderful bookstore. It’s clean, well-organized, and relatively spacious(compared to most bookstores), and they have an excellent selection without being overcrowded with junk. The people who work there are super friendly and helpful. They have beautiful old maps and hard-to-find(but marvelous) Junior League cookbooks. I just love this place!

I’m a native of Savannah who currently lives in Austin, TX. Every time I return home to visit family and friends, I always make time to shop at E. Shaver for special gifts for dear friends in Texas. The courtesy and professionalism of the entire staff is second to none! My most recent purchase was the Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House Cookbook, which was beautifully wrapped(complimentary) by the staff at E. Shaver… a perfect gift from a PERFECT bookstore! Thanks for being a shining example of what true southern hospitality is all about. I look forward to my next visit. I’m hoping to bring a few friends who have received gifts from your establishment along for the visit! :-)

Friendly people but more tourist-geared product and environment.

What a find! This charming little bookstore in an old historic home was such a delight to browse through. We found cookbooks, gardening books, history books, and novels galore. The ladies at the front counter were so helpful and we loved wandering from room to room to room. The location is right on one of the historic squares and is a don’t miss for book lovers or someone looking for a gift. Lovely.

For a tiny quaint locale, you’d think it’d serve more for aesthetic/nostalgic purposes rather than practical — but there’s nothing more wrong than that train of thought! Besides having a varied selection, E. Shaver’s sells dolls that go perfect along with your reading selection, making perfect gifts! & there’s plenty of southern charm to go around in this place. I’d love this to be my local bookstore.

Outstanding bookstore, though bookseller is more appropriate. This is NOT your average Borders/Barnes and Noble. This is a highly selective, eclectic store with stuff that should appeal to many demographics. I found myself sitting on the ground in the back, in my suit, checking out the row of Faulkner, which was at the very bottom of the shelf. I bought some postcards and«The Mansion,» which seemed appropriate for Savannah.
