I hadn’t been here for a 6 months or so. Imagine my surprise to find it’s gone and replaced by a lottery super store. I was a big fan of this shop. Every time I went back they always had more inventory: meats, produce, etc. if anyone reads this review and knows where they moved to, if anywhere, please let me know.

Hong Tan was way out of the way for me when I lived in Savannah – especially as I didn’t have a car, either. I had to ride the bus to it, but it was worth the long, winding ride to get there and back to my apartment on Duffy Street. You see, as I love to cook Asian food, once I moved to Savannah one of my first missions was to find an Asian grocery. I was looking for mainly Cantonese foods, but Hong Tan is almost certainly Vietnamese and while they stock pan-Asian foodstuffs, they are especially good on Viet ingredients. One delightful surprise of coming here was they also sold Viet-pop CDs and hence I got into Viet-pop in a big way. The shop is crowded and yes, it’s kinda dusty, but it has some gems of ingredients, too. If you need Viet, Lao, or Thai foods, this is your place – I think there is another Viet grocer somewhere out in mid-town but this is a sure shot.

This place sucks… little variety, everything is old(even the bottles of sauces… like dust everywhere), and the place just seems dirty. Prices are a bit expensive.

This is a terrific oriental food mart apparently owned and operated by a Vietnamese woman and her husband. It is clean, well organized, and the lady-owner is unendingly cordial and helpful. I commend it highly to anyone looking for oriental food stuffs. Apparently, the emphasis is on Thai and Vietnamese foods. p. s. … I’ve been to several similar stores in Savannah and by far, this is the best.
