Went twice while in the area. First time got the $ 3.99 fish special. Two peices of whitting and fries. Would give 6 stars for that dish alone. Absolutely fantastic and a steal for the price. Cooked to order and used fresh fish. Because it was so good, I went back and got the fried shrimp plate and the crab rice. The shrimp were a good size, a good amount of them with fries, for $ 6.99. Again totally worth the price for the fresh cooked, good portion. However, the breading fell off the shrimp because they didn’t flour them before breading so they weren’t really like eating fried shrimp, but still good. The crab rice was disppointing, but I never had crab rice before so no comparison. Plain rice with a little crab thrown in and heated. Not much taste, but it was real crab. Not my thing, found it tasteless, but if its your thing it may be great to you. Saw another customer order a half pound of crab salad, which was not crab but that fake sealeg stuff mixed with mayonnaise and paid $ 8.00 for a little over half a pound. I almost slapped her and asked what she was thinking! They can’t give that crap away at my local supermarket for $ 2.99 a pound! Definitely worth the money for the fried plates, but be careful, other items are overpriced and lack quality as you see from some of the other reivews as well. They have a niche on fried food and should stay there. And Take-out only.

Spicy garlic crab was very good. Fried shrimp and fish; also good. Low Country Boil was ok — not disappointed at the price paid($ 7.99). Fried scallops weren’t worth eating. Three of us had an obscene amount of food for under $ 40. Took it to Forsyth Park and enjoyed a nice dinner picnic. Lots and lots and lots of napkins required! It’s not fancy, but it’s worth the short drive. Owner was very pleasant. Good value, good food overall.

You need a car to get to this place as it is outside of the Historic District. That said, Watson’s serves good low-country boil at a very reasonable price point. It’s not apparent at first that they do serve low-country boil, but there is a small sign near the cash register that says«low-country boil: shrimp, potatoes, corn, sausage: $ 7.99». We got that and added $ 2 for 3 crabs and also ordered a ½ pound of the garlic crab that was displayed. It was definitely enough food for 2 and our total came out to about ~$ 17. The low country boil was made-to-order while the garlic crab was pre-made. There’s no place to eat inside, so you have to take it to-go. There is also an option to reheat the crab in the microwave, but we didn’t and the garlic crab tasted fine cold(more than fine actually, it was delicious). You can add $ 1 for melted garlic butter that comes in a pretty big container, but the seafood was so flavorful that you really don’t need it. All in all, this is a great find. Good seafood at cheap prices and without the hassle of a sit-down restaurant.

As a caveat, it may have been the time of year, or the time of day/day of the week that we went in. However, microwaved seafood(in Styrofoam containers mind you) is not my idea of a quality meal. I can only guess that the display counter that holds their food is refrigerated, but even still it is not an excuse for using the microwave to reheat it. My girlfriend and I ordered ½ pound of shrimp, a seafood egg roll, and a small cup of the conch meat. The shrimp were fine, although they had not been de-veined. The conch was spicy and chewy, as though it had been over cooked(perhaps a result of the microwave re-heating). While the service wasn’t bad, we did not receive the same warm welcome that others reviewing this place did. All in all, it’s probably a better experience if the food doesn’t need to be/isn’t reheated.

I’m so glad to have taken Alasha’s Unilocal advice and headed out of the Historic District for our last meal in Savannah. I was not willing to leave without having tried their famous«low country boil»! We got there around 11:10 am and was sad to see that it wouldn’t be open until noon(we were in a hurry to leave town onto our next destination). As we were deliberating what to do about the lunch situation, in comes the owner, who was nice enough to open her business 45 minutes early for us, without me having to beg :) This place is located in a pretty random neighborhood(to an out-of-towner anyway) not too far away from the Historic District. It’s just down the street from Savannah High School, in case you get lost. It’s owned by a little cute Korean lady who has worked there for about 17 years now and may retire soon :( The low country boil was soooo good, and tasted every bit like I expected it to — maybe even better. All the«specials» we ordered were relatively inexpensive, with nothing over $ 10. In fact, there’s a special with two pieces of tilapia and french fries on the side, for only $ 3.99! Each of our food boxes came with A TON of food — A TON! You can also order pounds of different types of seafood, cooked in the style you want. The only downside is that there’s no place to eat in her shop. You basically get your food to go and eat it elsewhere. But seeing that this is a neighborhood mom ‘n pap shop, it’s not a huge issue for most people that frequent this place. Also… delicious 32 oz. sweet tea for only $ 1.25!

Three words: BUCKETOFOYSTERS. *passes out* No, but seriously; there is fast, friendly service and great seafood to be had here. I’m partial to the aforementioned bucket of fresh(still shelled) oysters and the crab rice. My daughter is partial to the low country boil, and would eat it every day if allowed. There’s also steamed and fresh crabs and shrimp, as well as conch. Yanno, typical take-put seafood fare, and it’s all good. All ya’ll tourists need to leave downtown and head to the eastside for your seafood fix.
