The people are friendly, but not the most professional. The salon is messy and disorganized. I went to Hot Headz in a group to prepare for my friend’s wedding. My friend and her bridesmaids all got updo’s. I got a shampoo and style. The stylists doing the updo’s needed lots of coaching to copy a hairdo from a picture, but they did get them done. My hair was supposed to be simple, but I was helped by someone who did not know what they were doing. It took about 2 hours because the stylist had to stop to get help from the owner. Although I had a picture of a simple style, they could not copy it. The stylist was supposed to trim my bangs a little and follow the curve of the existing cut. It was cut straight across while pulled flat across my forehead and I got poked in the eye. Not only was it too short, it didn’t blend in with the rest of the cut. This person told me the school they went to was not good and they were learning everything at the salon. This place needs Tabitha.

I agree with Katy M., this is not a relaxing atmosphere. It’s busy(which, good for them!), and loud. Also, it’s quite small and I don’t know that space is being utilized – for instance, customers pay at the front door, which opens inward. So of course I bump a customer who is paying as I am entering. Not the way to start the visit. Because I was getting a pedicure, I was taken upstairs. This area is open, so I could hear everything below, and I do mean everything. One of the male stylists, Shane, was explaining why he doesn’t wear certain pants because of how they affect his, um, «package.» The woman doing my nails yelled down and asked him to be quiet because she was with a customer, and she apologized to me. It was awkward. Also, I was told that I’d have to pay $ 5 for the fresh pumice and file used on me, and that this was«in the fine print» in the Groupon. I didn’t mind paying for it, but I went back over the Groupon and didn’t see it anywhere. Maybe I missed it. All I can say is, I’m glad that a fresh pumice was used, b/c she scrubbed my ANKLEBONE with it and scraped 3 raw spots on it. My ankle bled, and it was incredibly painful. I actually still have a scar from one of the abraded areas. The pedicure was done in a portable foot bath, which meant that I had to sit up in the haircutting chair and brace my feet on the edge of the bath. The nail table was tiny and cluttered, and things were constantly being knocked off of it. At no point was I ever comfortable, let alone relaxed and enjoying myself. I DID tip the person who did my nails, because I know that some of this was not her fault. I did not ask to speak to the owner regarding my ankle either, because: 1) I didn’t realize the extent of my injuries until after I got home, and 2) I honestly just wanted to get the whole experience over and done and get out of there. I won’t ever go back.

One minute you’re on the streets of Savannah and the next minute your standing inside Los Angeles without all the pretension. HotHeadz seems to go for that red & black, tattoo artwork, urban environment followed up with… and this is neato… Southern Hospitality. It’s a great combo. I had the pleasure of working with Sean Haire. I spared him the joke he must hear a million times about his last name, but he was great. At first glance you see the flame and spider tattoos, then how his biceps are the size of your head and you have that second of ‘Oh crap!’ deer frozen in the headlights until he shakes your hand. When you realize your hand isn’t crushed and he gives a big welcoming smile you’re put at ease. Shew! Something I really, really, REALLY enjoyed about Sean is something so simple… he didn’t talk my ear off. I’m not one of those women that goes to my hair stylist to unload all my problems on, if I want to talk to someone, I’ll go see a therapist. I like my professionals staying in their specialized fields. ;D He did exactly what I was looking for, kept a strong focus on the task at hand and before I knew it I was bouncing out the door.

This salon might be enjoyed by some people, because it is unconventional, but if you’re looking for a relaxing, professional salon atmosphere I’d suggest you look elsewhere.
