I have been waiting years to go here, because every time I’ve come to Savannah it was closed. I wasn’t disappointed with the food, but I wasn’t overwhelmed by great flavor. I had the godfather, which was a very good sandwich. The weird thing was the clove flavor in the African sausage. Everything else tasted like a chicken parmesan sandwich. I probably won’t visit again because I can’t see myself paying $ 17 for a sandwich and bottle of coke at a takeout restaurant, during lunch – no side dish included. If the price was $ 10, I might go back. Food was a solid 3⁄5. The price was 2⁄5. I think a smaller portion at a lower price would be better. Maybe $ 7 – 8 for half the sandwich and a drink. For $ 15, I’d rather go to Treylor Park on Bay Street and have their fried bologna sandwich or their loaded nachos.

Walk inside to Zunzi’s(after waiting in line for half an hour) and you’re guaranteed to hear two words«Shit Yeah!» because they know you’re going to love their food! I’ve got to give you an extremely important tip BEFORE you visit: pre-order. Is it a secret that you can call ahead, place your order and skip the line?! Well, I’ll never stand in line again. Even if you arrive and didn’t know this tip prior, you can still call in your order and wait at a table around the back(and if you’re picking up your order, walk around the left side of the building and enter through the side door). Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, the classic Conquistador with their rotisserie style, über tender chicken with tomato, lettuce and a creamy vinegar based sauce is kissable. Try the South African ice tea, it’s delicious and so unique, and the sandwich paired with some Voodoo(New Orleans style) Zapp’s chips work perfectly. Great customer service, you’re able to glimpse the sandwich work in progress and a delicious product, if their other products are as good, I could definitely see this place as a 5-star location.

Best best affordable flavored food we have enjoyed in a long time. Also were very nice to our little doggie and brought him a water cup. The homemade sausage was just buckets of flavor.

Giant sandwiches! They are the best gluten free option in GA. One time they put cheese on my sandwich when I said no cheese and they bent over backwards to make things right. Super friendly staff and great food. This place is a must.

This place sure has the best sandwiches in town. I never had flavored grill sandwiches. The service was great, they add chicken to my mash room sandwich, the server came out personally asking if he can offer me something else to make me happy. Highly recommended for lunch, worth standing in line.

Went here off a recommendation from a friend and the great reviews and we were not disappointed! We had the godfather and the portobello and they both were awesome. They put so much on the French bread that it’s overflowing. You must try their sauces too. These guys love what they do and it’s great going to a spot where the service is on point and the atmosphere is just as good as the food.

All I have to say is shit yeah! Once you head to Zunzi’s you’ll understand. We ordered the famous Conquistador and the Bunny Chow. The sauces are to die for and the chicken is super tender. Also suggest trying the African Tea, it’s super refreshing with all that food. If you’re in Savannah this is a must!

Oh gosh these subs are so damn good! This place hits the spot it’s amazing. A little too saucy so I asked for my sauce on the side. Best part … all the protein on each meal! My sub was Loaded with chicken! I dig South African food!

Three words. Shit yeah sauce. I’m a big fan of the fisherman’s deck slathered in these delicious sauces but seriously— you could put the sauce on cardboard and cardboard would start to taste good. Go try anything on the menu. You won’t be disappointed.

I’m not sure it’s worth the hype. The staff are extremely friendly and amazing– they clearly love their job. The roobois iced tea is also great. We ordered two Godfathers and two iced teas– total came out to $ 30. A little heavy on the price and the sandwich destroyed our stomachs(word to the wise – share one). One of their sauces was too tangy, the cheese seems misplaced, and the marinara didn’t add anything either. I also notice that there’s no prices listed anywhere. You have to either ask or look at a takeout menu which is hidden in the storefront. Why aren’t the prices advertised more clearly? It pains me to write this review as we fell in love with the staff and service. However, I’m not sure I would recommend this as a stop on your trip to Savannah.

Ok so this place is a must while in Savannah. The Godfather with the hot as shit sauce was the best food I had while in Savannah. The sandwich is huge so don’t bother with sides, in fact think about sharing. No nevermind don’t share… it’s that good you won’t want to. This sandwich was loaded with a ton of fresh juicy chicken breast and two different kinds of African sausage. Need I say more? The staff was super friendly all of them recommend the Godfather! On our way out we asked for directions to a local bar, none of them had heard of it, but that didn’t stop one of them from getting out his phone to Google it for directions. Thank you for the good food and good service our first night in Savannah.

What to start with? How great people are at Zunzi’s! How simple but tasteful and fresh our sandwiches were! How great the outdoor seating is on a sunny afternoon or a cool night. You should go there to experience it

Conquistador! Both Sauces! SHICHYEAH!!!(Gata be Unilocal!family friendly ;)) And don’t forget the tea! … Ive never missed a single food entre’ so much in my life as when I graduated from SCAD and moved away from Savannah. Conquistador… If you’re listening… I think of you often and I will always love you. I compare everything to you. Nothing will ever be able to touch what we had. You are in a league of your own. Irreplaceable. Yet, better to have Conquistadored and moved then never to have Conquistadored at all! ‚((

This place was recommended to us by friends and we stopped by for lunch on our last day in Savannah. Our expectations more than exceeded and we highly suggest making this a stop if you are visiting this neat city. I love chicken, and the chicken here, smothered in the most delicious sauce, was simply out of this world. This place is the ultimate in tasty. In addition to the eats, the staff here made the start to our last day as awesome as it could be. They offered us samples of tea and the various meats to try, and had us laughing with their puns. After we had stuffed ourselves, we stopped by the counter to bid them farewell and they gave us parting gifts. Totally unexpected and it completely made our day! Thanks so much for being awesome, the only thing left I have to say about this place is SHITYEAH!

A hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a ballsy slogan and a menu with a interesting combination of South African and Italian influences. Zunzi’s menu comprises of a bunch of subs, such as the Godfather, or hearty platters, such as «Oliver’s lunch.» I won’t post Zunzi’s slogan here, but I’ll just say that it’s a bit politically incorrect and it was inspired by an old employee who loved the catchphrase. It’s all over the restaurant now, from the restaurant’s T-shirts to a mural that proudly sports the restaurant slogan in several different languages. If you like it, you can purchase a T-shirt at the checkout counter. The food stands out, in my opinion, as much as the restaurant’s slogan. I came to Zunzi’s with my friends after a race and was starving. The Godfather is the staff’s top recommendation, but I decided to order Oliver’s lunch because it had more food. Oliver’s lunch gives you a sampling of a few of the restaurant’s meats(chicken, smoked sausage, and house sausage). In addition, I got rice, a side of peas and carrots(this can be exchanged for another side item), mashed potatoes, and a piece of French bread. I walked into the restaurant starving and was completely full after my Oliver’s lunch. The chicken was tasty and juicy — they cut the chicken for you right before they serve it to you. If you’re not very adventurous, I’d recommend that you stick with the smoked sausage. The house sausage has a texture similar to chorizo and a unique flavor. I liked the sausage, but my friends preferred the smoked sausage. Overall, it was a great post-workout meal. On the drinks menu, you can order a South African sweetened or unsweetened tea. You can order a cup or you can order a gallon. The sweetened tea is a little bit on the sweet side, so you may want to dilute it. After you get your order, you can sit in the yard next to the restaurant at a bunch of tables with umbrellas.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it because I’m in the minority, but I was not impressed with Zunzi’s. Aside from Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, Zunzi’s was one of the places I HAD to try while visiting Savannah. My friends and I ordered The Godfather(one with smoked sausage, the other with homemade sausage) and the Conquistador so that we could try a little for everything. The only difference between The Godfather and Conquistador is the former has sausage and cheese. Between the 3 sandwiches, our fave was the Conquistador because the cheese on The Godfather was too overpowering. I preferred the homemade sausage over the smoked, but you can get it with both. Honestly, I thought the sandwiches tasted like meatball marinara sandwiches. They were all very similar. The pros: the line moved quickly(10 min wait), the workers were super friendly(sh*t yeah!), and there was plenty of outdoor seating available.

Believe the hype, this place is amazing. Great food with unique flavor profiles. We had THEGODFATHER: baked chicken & South African sausage sandwich on French bread. The flavors of the meats were great, but it is really all about the sauce to give it that something extra. I do recommend getting the sauce on the side, as it can get a bit messy. This is definitely a fork and knife sandwich. We also got a side of the lasagna, and it was by far some of the best lasagna we’ve had. I don’t recommend eating it along with the sandwich though, as the sauces for the sandwich don’t meld well with the lasagna. My recommendation to the owner; put that lasagna on the french bread with some marinara… It is the bomb!

Busy touring downtown savannah but still want to experience a popular savannah spot for lunch? Try Zunzi’s! Conveniently located in downtown savannah walking distance to trolley stops, Zunzi’s is a small but popular sandwich shop. They feature other items such as wraps and lasagna, but as tourists, we had to get their popular sandwiches. We got the conquistador, which won an award for being one of the best sandwiches in the U.S. On Food Network and the godfather, a local favorite. Personally preferred the conquistador over the godfather. But if you go with someone, get two different sandwiches. They split them down the middle making it easy to share! ;) Try To go before 12pm to avoid waiting. Much like a food truck type of restaurant, you order your food then go to a semi shaded seating area out back. Periodically, one of the staff will come out and make sure everything is okay.

Portobello sandwich, shit yeah :) Not only is this place serving up some ridiculously good grub(my bf is also giving big thumbs up to the Conquistador), the place is run by some chill staff who seem determined to make you have a better day. «You new to our spot? Sweet tea shots!»…followed by «do you like curry? We’re known for our sauces — let me get you some»…and I overheard a bowl of water being offered for a dog patron. I’m won over. Great vibe, great service, awesome sandwiches.
