Today I visited Joy Creek Nursery for the first time. I’m not an expert, so I really appreciate when someone is willing to answer questions and make suggestions based on the ideas I’ve expressed. Joy Creek came through and then some. I wanted to plant some really special arrangements in my deck boxes (hubby does most of the big gardening), and I was so pleased to find an assortment of offerings that weren’t run-of-the-mill. I found really beautiful, healthy plants, and the owner (I’m presuming here based on the depth of his knowledge, generally and with regard to their inventory) was so solicitous, informative, and helpful, I left with an assortment that’s going to make the loveliest arrangements EVER! Joy Creek may not have the lowest prices, but this is a real-life example of «you get what you pay for.» I couldn’t be happier!

I go out of my way to avoid this nursery, snooty snootertons! I don’t go to a nursery because I know everything. Anytime I have gone to Joy Creek they have treated me like I’m dumb and can hardly believe I don’t know the horticultural name of plants. I’m thankful that this isn’t the only quality nursery for miles.
On the other hand, it IS nice to walk through the nursery if you can avoid the staff and owners.

I went to Joy Creek Nursery in search of a few plants that I haven’t been able to find in Portland’s other nurseries, mainly Astrantia and Omphalodes. I am so glad I made the trip out there!
I was greeted by a trio of hellos as I arrived and made to feel right at home. I was given an overview of the retail space layout, a map to the surrounding gardens where I was free to wander and see what was growing and blooming and offered coffee and cookies. Wow, talk about customer service. I left, a couple of hours later, with all the plants on my list plus a few more, a schedule of their summer classes and the intention to return again soon. They only mini drawback is that the prices are higher than other places around town. BUT the customer service, atmosphere and overall experience can make me over look this, especially for hard to find plants.

What a wonderful garden full of display plants and an informative staff. We just discovered this gem of a nursery today. Only downside I foresee is the higher pricing on many of their plants and seasonal hours.

There aren’t enough words to describe how lucky I feel that Joy Creek exists. Every Sunday, from spring until fall, there are fantastic, informative workshops, on all sorts of topics… not to be missed.
And, the staff is so knowledgeable! Ask, and they know the answer, and have the plant.
