Very good food! My family enjoys this place every time we visit! The burgers are good, sandwiches are good, we especially enjoy their omelets. Too bad they are only open til lunch

I am not a breakfast person… but their menu is niiiiiiice. I ordered the lobster frittata and it was good. So good. My husband ordered the Texas skillet and it was delicious as well. Overall a very good meal that hits the spot.

Not a great first visit — and probably last. Waitress seemed too busy looking over at the event room than paying attention to us when we placed our order. Food took a long time to come to our table — I suspect the table next to us had my breakfast as an Athena was brought out and no one there had ordered it. When our breakfasts finally arrived my daughter’s Patriot waffle did not have the two eggs that were supposed to accompany it(and the waitress had not asked how she would like them prepared anyway) and two strips of cold bacon. Luckily my friend had mentioned she would take ranch potatoes with her meal as that reminded me to tell our waitress that I would also take potatoes– if I hadn’t said that who knows if I would have got grits, potatoes or nothing. And finally, we had to ask 3 times for more cream for our coffee. All in all, a less than satisfactory experience.

My husband and I JUST left The Egg And I… and I can honestly say… WEWILLNEVERRETURN. I should also mention we’ve ate there many times before… and the service and food were always fabulous. Today however our waitress acted as if we were a HUGENUISANCE… the food was greasy and cold… and when my husband asked for ketchup the waitress dropped it on the floor! Hopefully this was just an unfortunate accident… BUT…do you think she gave us a new plastic bottle… or at LEASTCLEANEDTHENOZZLE that had rolled around on the nasty carpet. All I can say about the EGGAND I is you’ve lost two good customers… and all of our friends who ALSOHAVEBEENFAITHFULFANSOFYOURESTABLISHMENT!

Really satisfied with the whole experience! Even though the space was crammed we got a table pretty quickly, and got very attentive service by our excellent server Steve. We got ice water instantly and a can of great coffee in very nice mugs shortly after. The food was very good as well, with awesome warm maple syrup! My eggs over easy were downright fantastic. One of us got ham as opposed to the ordered bacon by accident, but we got a free extra of bacon within merely seconds after complaining and a nice apology from our server. Would go anytime again!

Absolutely love this place. It’s our go to place on the weekends. The menu is great. Not a single bad thing out of everything I’ve tried. We also have a baby and they are very friendly as far as getting a sling set up for the car seat and what not. Very friendly staff and absolutely would recommend this place to everyone!

Really good breakfast and very nice servers. Santa Fe huevos are addictive. Salsa is on the hot side, so if you’re a mild to medium you may want it on the side so you control the heat. Omelettes are very good, with crispy edges. Iced coffee is syrupy. I’m not a fan. But hot coffee is great. Especially the Irish and the pecan.

Delicious egg skillet breakfast for my bday. I recommend the hearty California dreamin’ eggs! I love their grits(a tad too salty) but grainy & hearty consistency.

Not great service. Pancakes and French Toast… then had to wait for the syrup. Ice water served at the end of the meal??? Don’ t even get me going about how long it took to cash out.

Service is very prompt and friendly. I was greeted and seated right away. The first thing I noticed when I sat down is that there was dried food jammed between the wooden slats that comprise the benches at the tables which I also found uncomfortable. That was very unappetizing, obviously. They should be cleaned between seatings. I ordered scrambled eggs and potatoes. My eggs had a very odd and unpleasant flavor so I was unable to eat them. I didn’t send them back and my server didn’t ask why I hadn’t eaten them. The potatoes were ok. I won’t go back.

Initial reactions were positive but that quickly went downhill. I had the Corned beef and eggs over. Canned! Tiny little chips of corned beef with lots of potato. Probably the worst corned beef and hash I have had. Coffee was only so-so. It was just warm — not even close to hot. Wife had an omelet and eggs appeared to be from a bottle instead of a shell! I would say this place is just under OK. Prices were normal for breakfast. Not well recommended.

Great breakfast place. Saw the sign on my drive to work and decided Sunday would be a good day to try brunch. Great service… greeted immediately… ice water in my hand within minutes. Coffee quickly after. My server(Steve) was friendly and offered suggestions on a pretty busy menu. Decided to go with the«Hiker Benedict»…pieces of ham, asparagus, mushrooms, tomato with the requisite hollandaise. Also two strips of bacon and«ranch» homefries(their specialty advised Steve). And any place that leaves a carafe of delicious coffee at your table is a huge plus to start!!! Can’t forget… because it was my first time, when finished I was given an envelope(to be opened next visit) for either free endless coffee. or $ 5…$ 10…or $ 50 towards that meal. Awesome! Going back for sure just on food and service so that is a fun bonus.

Was a solid breakfast, not to be confused with the other breakfast spot with the same exact name. The one we went to was the chain out of Denver, the other unrelated spot is a unique ‘local’ spot. Our experience was good and they had a very nice selection of eggs benedict… my personal fav.

My sister and I went to The Egg and I for the first time this morning, and I’m happy to say that we were both impressed, and that we will be going back. It’s in Scarborough, in a small strip mall, so there’s plenty of easy parking. It’s a bright, open room that is very nicely appointed with wrought iron touches. There are booths and tables, and the place seemed immaculate. I accidentally dropped my fork and got an up close and personal look at the carpet and it’s cleaner than the one in my house by far. We are early risers, so we were there before eight on a Sunday during season and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly, personable and answered our«first timer» questions very patiently. We loved that they offer different types of coffee, and that they leave a carafe of it on your table, so you’re not constantly begging for a refill from any passing stranger, other patrons, etc. The menu is large and extensive, with everything from breakfast sandwiches to homemade corned beef hash, plus all of the usual breakfast suspects, and our order was taken promptly. Although my head was nearly turned by the description of the breakfast burrito, I decided to order something basic and save the more exotic offering until I’d evaluated what they’d done with a more mundane choice. My sister ordered the hash with eggs over easy and raisin toast, and I had the«Eggs Plus» — two eggs scrambled, a blueberry muffin — grilled — sausage, and their ranch home fries. We happened to peruse our fellow patrons’ plates — unobtrusively, of course — and spied a pancake that was so big it was hanging off the plate, which prompted us to ask the one question we always ask that determines a truly excellent breakfast place for us — whether they serve real maple syrup or the artificial«mayple» crap. Considering that Maine produces maple syrup, we think it’s atrocious that any decent establishment would even consider offering the sub-par(but granted cheaper) alternative, and we’re happy to say that The Egg and I does provide the real stuff. We go out to breakfast a reasonable amount and have noted a dearth of good breakfast places in the greater Portland area, frankly. As we live south of the city, we tend to favor Cole Road Café, but always want to expand our repertoire and include any place that meets our relatively lax criteria — not too crowded, attentive staff, not too expensive and good food. The only negative we encountered was that, after ordering, it did take a big longer than usual(a bit more than two cups of coffee’s worth of time — that’s how I noticed was that I was reaching to pour my third cup) before breakfast was laid before me. Now, considering how happy we were with it once we got it, we both felt that the added time was fine, because the food was as plentiful as it was flavorful — everything had a distinct taste, unlike a lot of places — the sausage patties seemed to be a cut above the usual quality, the blueberry muffin was wonderfully moist, the eggs were well done(I hate watery eggs), and the ranch home fries were nicely seasoned. My sister was just as happy with the hash, and there was so much of it that she had to take some home! They also do lunch for breakfast, which will make one of our friends ecstatic. As the waitress said when we asked, they’re happy to accommodate. The food was no more expensive than anywhere else we’ve tried, and they also have you pay at the register, which is a boon to both the waitress and the customer, as far as we’re concerned. All in all, a very pleasant breakfast. We’re happy to have found another quality local establishment at which to spend our breakfast dollar.

They get their bisquits and gravy right! Uh, why can’t we have places like this on the west coast!!! The portion here are huge and tasty, no matter what you order. My husband ordered pancakes with eggs and bacon and he had more than enough food that realistically, any entrée you order here, you can technically can split with someone if you’re willing to share breakfast. The staff here is super sweet and if you order coffee, they’ll just leave you a carafe so you don’t have to wait around for the caffiene :)

Lobster Eggs Benedict had lots of lobster. Eggs were perfect and hollandaise sauce was smooth and seasoned to perfection. I usually end up adding black pepper but I didn’t even miss it this time. I also usually skip the side of potToes but there’s were so «herby» and crispy I kept going back for«just one more bite». The staff was super sweet and attentive but also considerate by not interrupting our conversation. I tasted the Mexican Skillet and loved it too. Good quality green chili with just enough heat. Can’t beat to price for the quality! I’ll be back.

My folks tell us about all the new places they try or find and this one has been suggested over the last several visits. We finally made it! The location was spacious, but not heated enough for our taste. The waitress, Amanda, was friendly/patient and all smiles. We all enjoyed our meals and had no complaints beyond the building heat. I will say that if I had to pick a star item from this visit, it would be my dad’s buttered raisin toast. My sourdough was good, but his was just a bit better. My iced mocha was a bit under sweetened for my pallet, but good none the less. The Mexican omelet my hubby got had his choice of green chili already mixed in, which we had to ask Amanda about.(We asked cuz my choice of salsa had come on the side.) The hot coffee my hubby got was in a carafe that’s left on the table. Absolutely interested in coming back!

We came to this place this morning at last minute for a team breakfast meeting. We sat right down and they accomodated our request for 7 people in our party with no hesitation. The servers were all super friendly and were outgoing and very attentive to the table’s needs and showed excitement when talking about the specials on the menu. The food here that we ate was great. It seemed very fresh with the special being a pumpkin waffle with a cinnamon butter and also candied pecans with homemade real maple syrup which topped it off with deliciousness. I also asked for over medium eggs which were cooked perfectly and two patties of sausage to go with it all. The rest of the table was raving and ranting about their plates with some getting waffles and some getting eggs benedict. Our experience was a really good one and the food was fresh and delicious. To top it all off we had a pumpkin coffee that was very good and didn’t taste fake like some that I have had before. Check this place out for some breakfast!

Food is just ok, the service on the other hand is wonderful. Very friendly, attentive servers! I had the veggie Benedict with dide of potatoes. Potatoes were undercooked and cold. Eggs poached perfectly, but I didn’t care for the cold slices of tomatoes. I do love the choice of coffees
