Performance Bicycle

Went into this store a couple days ago. I was there for 20 minutes. Not one employee approach me to say hello, ask me if I needed assistance or say they would be with me shortly. They weren’t that busy. I noticed another person was also there without being helped.
After reading some other reviews, it looks like this has happened to several other people. Guess Performance isn’t really interested in new business. I sent an email expressing my disappointment. I received the generic «someone will follow up with you» response. Still waiting.

Performance has a Full selection of bikes to choose from. Tons of accessories to out fit any ride. The service department has skilled techs that will dial your bike in regardless of make or model. Performance is you one stop for cycling gear!

These guys did a great job fixing the free wheel and adding new brake cables to my 28-​year old aluminum Raleigh Technium, black/​silver racing bike. Friendly and accommodating; I recommend!

Went into the store a little nervous with the prices I saw online, but decided to give it a try and didn’t think I’d walk out of the store with a bike. When I walked in and told Joe my budget and what I was using the bike for, he showed me 3 options to try out. He was extremely patient and answered all my questions.
I got to test ride the bike outside after signing a waiver and grabbing a helmet. Once I decided to purchase it, they had Jon help me with all the accessories needed and he was extremely helpful as well going over everything with me. I never felt rushed or as if I was a burden for not being able to «speak bike.»
A huge thanks to Joe, Jon and Chad for helping me to get the perfect bike for me.

Reasonably priced mechanical service — they fixed my bike for less than I was expecting. Not sure where all the negativity in these reviews is coming from. I like this place!

Went in to replace a freehub body. I already tried buying a part online that «should fit 9-​speed shimano,» but it didn’t.
i brought in the part and talked with a mechanic. Nice guy. I told him how my freehub body took an 11 mm hex wrench. He agreed that was strange. He looked in a catalogue for awhile. I confirmed the size, and he basically guessed, even though I brought in the part I wanted.
I prepaid and was told it would take a week to come in. A week goes by and no call. I call them and they say it’s not in yet. I received a call a couple days later, which was nice. Part comes in after 2 weeks.
I go in to pick it up and it’s the wrong part. It’s the same part I tried buying online. The guy starts to play the guessing game again and I stop him. I get refunded, but i’m still upset. I wasted two weeks waiting for the wrong part. I had a gut feeling the mechanic was unsure. Next time just admit that you’re not sure which part it is. No big deal.
I went over to Bike Connection and they were much more helpful. They told me that the part I was looking for was going to be very difficult to find, but replacing the whole hub is the same price if not cheaper. Those guys were much nicer and more helpful. They explained to me what I had to do.

I’ve never been in this store before but I do have an interest in biking, so I thought why not! When I walked in, the first thing that I noticed was that the store wasn’t really decorative. The flooring was just concrete.
This is a simple bike store and not very large. Everything was easy to find. They’ve got their bikes organized by types and brand, but there wasn’t much of a selection of mountain bikes. I like that they have all different types of bike pumps as well as bike seats. There’s also some clothing. They’ve got their workshop in the back but I didn’t get a tune up or anything here, I was just looking around since it was my first time. Nobody really asked me for help, but that was fine. I did find a pair of biking gloves I liked but it had two left hands — pretty strange. I gave it to a worker at the end and he was surprised too.
I did notice the camelbacks here are cheaper than what we got them for. They have also got a few things in their clearance section, but it isn’t very organized so you have to dig around. Other than that, everything here is fairly priced and I’m pretty sure the staff would’ve been helpful had I asked for anything.
They can expect me back to buy a camelback in the future.

I initially went to Performance Bicycle with the intention of purchasing a bicycle either that day or in the very near future. Me and my boyfriend walked around for a few minutes to get an idea of what they have and what my options are. The employee came and offered some help but really didn’t seem too knowledgeable. He pretty much just pointed at each section and said what types of bikes were in each (mountain vs hybrid vs road).
We asked if I could test a couple out to see what size frame I would like and what brands felt better and he pretty much completely ignored the request.
I walked out without trying any bikes and didn’t intend to go back.

Great staff very knowledgeable. Had a flat a few weeks after and they replaced it for free and tuned the bike up.

I recently bought a brand new bike at this Schaumburg Performance. Coming from a long history of customer service jobs, and currently working for a company that places a huge importance on customer service, I tend to judge an experience largely on that. I had 2 people help me, one was a girl named Christine, and the other was named Joe. At any rate, I was approached immediately upon walking in the door by the younger girl. She was friendly, interested in helping me, and informative. There was no pressure as we discussed different types of bikes. I was interested in the lower end Fuji Sportif model. As we discussed the different components, Joe chimed in with his input on Tiagra vs. 105 components. The the of us talked about what bike would sit me best for a a sorry while, before I decided. I ended up walking out the door with an order placed for a higher end model. Not only did I got a great bike, I got a fantastic deal on it! I got it for $ 300 less than asking price since it was on sale, and being a team rewards member, I got back almost $ 400 in store credit, 30% of the pretax price! And I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Without their helpful tips, and incredible knowledge, I can only imagine that I’d be riding a sub-​par bicycle. Joe was as friendly and helpful as can be, and Christine really knew her stuff. I won’t be going anywhere else from now on. This bike shop is clean, well maintained, and well staffed with employees who are serious about their work. It’s extremely refreshing to walk into an establishment and get the level of service that I received. Great job Performance in Schaumburg, and thanks for all the awesome help!!!

We are looking for tires for my husband’s bike. I called 2 different bike shops looking to see if they had his size in stock and to ask the price. When I called this shop and asked if they had his size in stock I was told… we carry all sizes. OK good to know but can you please check to see if you have it because another place we went to was out of stock. Then told… yes, I think we have it. Ok… and how much would the tires cost. I am now told that he is too busy to check the price for me. Huh? is that not your job? Tells me he is the only one there, etc. etc. I tell him that this is really poor customer service. I am thinking a really smart associate would have said, sorry, but can I check in a moment and call you back? No, nothing! I told him thanks but we will be purchasing the tires at the store that took the time to not only check for stock but also let me know the difference in tires of the same size and the different prices!

I came here looking to see the selection for bikes and see if I could get a good deal on a bike. We weren’t greeted when we walked in so we figured, we’d just look around and flag someone down when they passed…30 minutes later still no one around to help! So finally I walked to the back and asked a service tech, if he could give us a hand, and he called someone from the back. The guy who came from the back seemed as if we had irritated him, so we said we ran out of time and left promptly, nearly as soon as he said good bye he started walking back to his hideout… wouldn’t shop here with this kind of service, ended up buying the bike at Two Seasons

Decent shop, good selection, and pretty good staff. The reason for the pretty good staff is the lady (manager?) seemed to want to nickel and dime for a repair when the maintenance guy told me all the parts were included. It ended up not being a big deal but the manager seemed more interested in the bottom line versus being of any assistance to me.

I wanted to like this place. But after my repair I got back on the bike two days later and the spokes busted right back out. Turns out the rim was bent and they failed to mention it.
Now I am already set bat $ 35 on a $ 35 bike and I have to spend another $ 70 for a rim. It took TWO WEEKS to get it done and they have very poor communication when I tried to call every couple of days to find out what was going on. I had a pretty solid feeling I was jerked around.
Go ahead and pass. Again, Check out Dan’s in Berwyn — solid people.

After MANY failed attempts to buy our three year old a bike at the big box stores, my hubby decided to upgrade and look at a real bike store. He called ahead and they held the only 12″ boys bike they had in store for us. The woman that helped us was super friendly and informative. We weren’t sure which size was right since we didn’t want him to grow out of it quickly, and she helped us confirm our choice. They have a great program for kids where you get a discount on subsequent bikes as they grow, nice touch. Yes the bike ended up being more than we had planned on spending but I’m fairly confident it isn’t a death trap like the others we returned at Target and Walmart. I’m fairly certain we’ll go back in the future.

I come here often for various bike problems and concerns. I find this place to be honest and quick with repairs. There’s plentiful parking and the hours at this place are better than most. It is, however, busy on the weekends, so it can be hard to get in and out. Plus, there are so many shiny new bike parts to distract me from getting out of that shop before I can spend money.

Recently a friend of mine got me reintroduced to the world of biking, the last time being when I was 12 years old. My Diamondback was purchased from Two Seasons in Streamwood. However, I did a fair bit of comparison shopping at Performance before finally getting a killer deal of $ 299 on a floor sample Diamondback which retailed for $ 899! Two Seasons was great!
As a relatively bike greenhorn, I felt that the staff of Performance took a lot of time to answer questions about gear and accessories that I wanted to add to my bike without pressuring me to purchase one item over another. In addition, they helped me sign up for the email newsletter in the store which helped me save an additional 15% off my purchase of lights, water bottles and other assorted items, all which where way cheaper here than at Dicks. Their prices are competitive and the service was solid as well.

If you are a female cyclist and know your way around a bike, DON’T GO HERE. Not one female employee in sight and the sales guy was condescending. Aw, silly girl, you can’t POSSIBLY know what you are doing.
The Performance Bicycle shops in Indy (thank goodness) have female employees and all employees treat women with respect. I’ve been in two or three different Performance locations around Chicago and in every one, they treated me with so condescendingly. It was awful. One was so bad that I actually left without purchasing anything. The low prices are not worth being treated like crap. Lesson learned. I will never go back to the Chicago stores.

So we go in on an empty Sunday morning because my girlfriend needs the tube replaced on her wheel, and the repair shop guy says that it will take 40 minutes since it’s a Japanese bike with some weird parts in the back that need to be taken off first. No problem.
We come back 1 hour and 40 minutes later and they are maybe halfway done. As we stand in line to ask why, we watch as the guy in front of us gives them his bike for repair, where they then spend a half hour fixing it and then give it back to him, right in front of us. They don’t move on to fixing my girlfriend’s bike until I ask them what’s taking so long, with their explanation being that they were «really busy» that day. 20 minutes later (!) we finally get it. Oh and they popped someone else’s tire while we were there.
The repair job was good, the service was terrible. Why should we have to babysit them to get them to do their job?

Under promise and over deliver… just my style.
I purchased an item off their website (with 20% off coupon) and had it shipped to this store with an estimated shipping time of 2 — 3 weeks (can’t beat free delivery). It arrived at the store in less than a week! Yeah, it would have been nice if they could be more accurate with their estimate, but I was pretty happy with the early delivery. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had a great selection of products in the store and good sale prices.
One word of caution, if you order from their website, you’ll be receiving their catalog every month. I called their customer service number to unsubscribe because I feel like I was killing a tree every time I got one in my mailbox. 800−727−2453.
