Tasty Wok is our local Chinese take-out, and as my wife and I joke, the two hardest working people in the area. Evidently a husband and wife team — he cooks, she preps, packs and takes orders — they are the only people I’ve ever seen in there and they seem to be open all the time. The home of the original, ‘ten minne” order — if you call and place an order, she’ll say at the end, ‘ten minne”, and I can tell you, it’s ready in ten minne every time, no questions asked. Yes, we know, it’s mostly pre-prepared as most take out Chinese, but there is something about Tasty Wok that is a little different. It is ALWAYS consistent — the food is as good now as it was the first time we ever ate there. The white rice is ALWAYS steamed perfectly, we are creatures of habit as we order the same things, but they are always good and predictable. We have gone there since it opened and I hope it stays around for a long time — no, it’s not fine dining, but really good, excellent value carry-out Chinese food has a place in our lives. My ‘boys’ are now 18, 20, and 25, and when we are all together, one of our default meals is to get Tasty Wok.

Tasty Wok is a little Chinese takeout restaurant located in a small strip plaza behind Midas, between Peter Harris and Hannaford. This is a typical order at counter place with open kitchen with a few tables inside for eating in. Tasty Wok serves up around 160 dishes and items including Cantonese, Hunan, and Szechuan dishes, most priced under $ 11. 49 Luncheon Specials($ 5.20-$ 5.35) served with pork fried rice and 24 Special Combination Plates($ 6.60-$ 8.40) served with fried rice & egg roll are offered here. I ordered the Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce Lunch Special served with pork fried rice, which was cooked to order in about 5 minutes, served in a round microwaveable container. The portion of food was a good lunch size. The Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce was decent, which had few tender shrimp(deveined), snow peas, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, carrots, and mostly sliced onions. The golden pork fried rice was good, which had a soft light texture with small pieces of roast pork and onion. I definitely needed plenty of Altoids after lunch since they were very generous with the sliced onions in the Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce.
