The sushi is out of this world delicious! I had the amazing lobster roll and the assemblymen roll. I love sushi and these rolls are so wonderful and beautifully presented. This dinner made my night! My husband had the steak hibachi which was cooked perfectly. He ate every bite of his dish, even all the vegetables which aren’t really his thing. The ginger dressing for the salad is wonderful too. The service was perfect. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The atmosphere & décor are great at this restaurant. The happy hour deals are awesome and it lasts until 7pm which gives most people more than enough time to take advantage of it after a long day at work. We are moving into the Stockade and there is no doubt my husband and I will be regulars here!

The sushi was good but the environment was one of drunkenness and obnoxious Millenials. It’s not the restaurant’s fault entirely, our waitress was sweet and apologetic, but our visit to Zen was not a pleasant one. The entire bar was filled with drunk 20-somethings and it was only 5:30pm on a Saturday! Somehow we were also overcharged by about $ 10 and didn’t realize it until we had already paid the bill and left. If you are in your early to mid twenties and are looking to get drunk with others who are fall over drunk and ready to start a fight, this is the place. If you are like me and in your mid to late thirties, you will not have enough patience for this restaurant. It’s unfortunate as its in a great location and has promise if they can somehow get rid of the undesirables.

We came here on a Friday night around 8PM without a reservation and it only took a few minutes for them to seat the four of us, 2 adults and 2 tweens. Our waitress was fast, efficient and enthusiastic. Overall everyone really enjoyed the dinner and we would gladly go back again to try the white tuna ceviche that the waitress recommended for our next visit. What we had: White tuna and jalapeño appetizer! Beef teriyaki main course California and cucumber rolls Sushi and sashimi boat for two Miso soup and white rice

One of my favorite places in Schenectady. Their hibachi is to die for as well as their sesame chicken. I also have gone here several Friday’s for happy hour with friends. Nice atmosphere and no drama! Wonderful staff. Oh and please try the hot and sour soup !!

Zen’s Sunday brunch is the bees knees! Unlimited sushi rolls and mimosas for $ 20. They offer at least 20 different kinds of rolls. All my faves were on the list, so I got my spicy tuna and eel avocado fix just fine. The best part? They don’t pad their rolls with obscene amounts of rice(cough cough, Sushi X). Normal, tasty, unlimited sushi. Quick and friendly service. Can’t beat it. Sundays, 12 – 2:30, go. I was surprised by the layout of the place. I know it’s a nightclub, but the bar is HUGE and takes up much of the floor. The tables are very closely spaced — if it were crowded I would’ve been unintentionally sidling up to my neighbor. Oh well, I don’t plan on going during crazy dinner rush anyway. Low key boozy brunches are the way to go.

Trendy, upscale place for a more mature night out. Went with a group of about 10 girlfriends on a Saturday night, and it wasn’t very busy at first. I think we arrived at kind of an odd time(around 9pm), so we were after the dinner rush, but before late night I guess. But some in our group are moms, and 9pm was late for us as it was :) The ambiance and décor were really great, there was some light music in the background, so we could enjoy our drinks as well as the company. We mostly stuck with the mojitos which were a great deal — $ 18, which you got maybe 5 glasses out of. The single glasses were $ 8, so that was a no brainer. I tried a couple different flavors — the raspberry, and ferrari which were both tasty, and very strong. My sister ordered food, which looked delicious and much better than the Chinese takeout that were all used to. At around maybe 10:30−11, the lights darkened, and louder, more upbeat music began playing. More people also began to pour in. It definitely got packed pretty quickly. Since this is probably the only classy bar type place in Schenectady, it would probably be helpful if the bar weren’t taking up so much space in the middle of the restaurant. That way a larger crowd could be accommodated. I definitely enjoyed myself here, and although it’s pretty far out of my way, I would be interested in returning for drinks and dinner.

As large as the building and sign look from the outside, I was expecting the inside to be more spacious. Instead, the large rectangular bar takes up about a third of the interior and the remainder of the space is filled with closely spaced tables giving the sensation of being over crowded when fully occupied before a show at Proctor’s Theater across the street. You guessed it, we were on our way to Proctor’s and had a reservation for an hour and three quarters before curtain time. Our seating and service were prompt and we were finished with our drinks, an appetizer and two entrées with thirty minutes to spare. Since the full name of the restaurant includes the work«mojito» it only seemed appropriate for me to order one. From their list of twelve choices I decided upon the Downtown Mojito($ 8/glass; $ 18/pitcher) made with Finlandia Grapefruit, mint, lime, sugar, and topped with champagne. It was tasty with a little sourness from the grapefruit flavor and went down real easy. I didn’t feel any noticeable impact from the alcohol after only one drink. My wife decided on a White Cosmo($ 10). Don’t ask me what’s in it, I have no idea. But she liked it and it look really nice. I didn’t see any noticeable impact of only one drink upon her either. For an appetizer, we shared the Salt and Pepper Squid($ 7). There were two surprises from this dish. One was that the squid body was not cut in rings. I liked that! Instead, there were nice good sized chunks of the body breaded and fried. The only pieces that were overcooked were the few smallest pieces. The rest were perfectly cooked. The second surprise was that the bed of finely chopped red and green peppers beneath the squid was where most of the salt was coming from. And boy, did a lot come from there. My wife ordered an Assemblyman Roll($ 13) as an entrée. It consisted of spicy tuna topped with avocado, crunch, massago, and scallion. It was colorful, tasty, and the eight pieces were sufficiently filling. I opted to try the Yellow Coconut Curry($ 13) which came with a choice of salad/miso, and white/brown rice. I was very pleased with the miso. It was not watery, had lots of flavor and a reasonable amount of tofu cubes, and scallion rings. The curry dish had larger than expected cuts of vegetable but they were cooked just enough to still be firm without being raw or turned into mush. I had added chicken to the curry and was also surprised that the large pieces of thinly sliced breast were actually moist. The only down side of this dish for me was how the curry seemed to have been overly thickened with something reminding me of the consistency of egg drop soup. The brown rice was flavorful and complemented the curry as I gradually added it to the dish. Kudos to our server and the kitchen. Not only did we receive our food in a timely manner on an evening when the restaurant was fully occupied, but the coordination of the staff at the sushi bar with the kitchen also allowed our server to bring my wife’s sushi roll at the same time as my curry entrée while it was still very hot.

On this particular night(there was a Proctors opening night for The Book of Mormon) service was slow food before drinks. We cancelled the order and left. Felt bad for the waitress. Kitchen and bar staff need help.

We visited here for the first time even though we live in the area. We love the décor. Great chill vibe. All of the staff were very courteous and friendly. We did try Mohitos because we had heard so much about them and they were absolutely delicious fresh fruit fresh mint very delicious. I ended up with a sashimi plate that was delicious and my fiancé had a hibachi box meal which was also delicious. Good food good service decent prices we will definitely be going back. I would have given it it’s fifth star however the service was a little bit slow but nothing to complain about.

Zen is a great addition to the declining bar/restaurant scene. It’s fun, has tasty food and the décor is really cute and modern. Drinks are really good(and strong) too. Only downside is the parking situation. Saturday nights are really fun to do a late dinner then move to the bar, where the whole place turns into a low key club-type atmosphere. The bartenders could use a little attitude adjustment though. However, I like that they aren’t dressed like trashy bud lite girls and are really attractive and classy. I was really impressed with the vibe of the place and how much fun I had. I’m looking forward to returning!

We went out early on a Saturday, not knowing Schenectady too well and thinking we could walk right into a place. Unfortunately it was Restaurant Week and this was the fourth place we tried and the only with immediate seating. I really regret not going to Bombers. First, the good. The restaurant is very pleasing to the eye and has nice ambiance. Of the items we tried, the Miso soup, sushi and both dessert options were good. Our entrees however, were barely edible. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Thai Coconut Yellow Curry. Both were tasteless and the latter had the consistency of goo. I’ve had better pineapple chicken from Lean Cuisine. Also we sat at the bar and after the first bartender who served us disappeared the second refused to make eye contact with my husband despite several attempts at politely getting her attention. Finally I just called out that we needed our bill which I hate to do but nothing else was working.

Came by to kill time during a trip from Boston. The bartenders were friendly, the place had amazing ambience and who doesn’t love amazing Chinese with five big screens playing sports. Dj came on at ten and this was one of the few places that had friendly costumers service I found in the area. Homerun!!!

Really great dinner and drinks. I had crispy duck. Hubby had sushi sashimi combo. We had a couple bumps getting a seat. Very busy, we had no reservations. We sat at a hi– top in the bar, which is a dining table, NOT bar, FYI. we were going to be bumped — as there was a reservation. However, the hostess made it work, and we had a great dinner. Not quiet, nice décor, good wait service, definitely will go back because of the effort.

I was visiting my parents in schenectady and I was told by my mom and her friends that they love Zen. They go there frequently for lunch. So, I went with them for me and my mom’s bday celebration. The food is really good, the portions are huge. We loved the berry Mojito. When they waiter found out it was our bday, he gave us a free bowl of(I don’t remember the name lol) it was huge and strong lol.
