When you go to this Zel’s location, you might wonder if you have made a mistake. The restaurant is not near anything and is located on a bust highway between Schererville and Merrillville. It is also next door to and attached to a convenience store. Finally, you walk in at the dinner hour and find no other customers. It is natural to think that anything you order has been sitting forever. Well, don’t fear. Go ahead and order am Italian beef sandwich or — better yet — a combo sandwich: Italian beef and Italian sausage. The sandwiches are fresh, the meat is flavorful, the bread is crispy enough, and the fries, although frozen, are just-cooked and good. You will enjoy the meal. The service is also friendly. No one is annoyed that you have disturbed the peace by coming in.

Best chili cheese fries ever! I love their chili cheese dogs and burgers too! The pineapple shakes are amazing! One of my favorite restaurants in the region! I always have to swing by when I go home!

This is not my first visit, usually everything is tasty. Today the food tasted fine, aside from half my fries being dark brown and way to crispy. My problem was the service/price. I added a cup of cheese, paid $ 1.29 for it and then didn’t get it.(I went in the drive thru) I didn’t notice til I got home(shame on me for not checking) I called to see if I could get a refund since I paid with a credit card, nope… just put my name in the complaint book(apparently they must get a lot of these to have a book) to get a free shake or cup of cheese. I said I’ll pass, I won’t be back anytime soon. I also inquired abut he Jr. Beef being so small. I was told they cut their own bread all to 4″, OK, now i know the Jr. beef is really for kids. So all together i paid $ 8.86, for a tiny dry beef, a handful of edible fries and med. drink. perhaps it was a fluke day or lazy, but courteous staff… normally it is better… but they are too expensive for me anymore!

Best chili cheese hot dogs ever! Other food great as well. Friendly staff. Call ahead and when you get there the food is ready. Sometimes you might have to wait a bit but it is so worth it. Not the most beautiful place to look at but who cares when the food is this good.

I don’t know what this particular location does different from the others but this Zel’s not only has better tasting beef, but the restaurant itself seems to be a lot cleaner than the other locations. Me and my wife always go to Zel’s when we both have a craving for a big hot beef! It’s all about the gravy!

I can always count on Zel’s for having yummy roast beef sammies. If you’re not on a diet, this place is great! This place has been around a long time and is a nice alternative to Arby’s. I think it’s wayyyyy better!

Woooweeeee. I’ve long been a believer that Arby’s is the best fast food restaurant around(and the most romantic… sorry Fazoli’s!!) but Zel’s has some damn good artery-clogging Roast Beef. Generally I always get the Regular with french fries. It runs about 6 bucks I think which is fairly pricey for fast food but it’s well worth it. It’s an Italian Roast Beef sandwich, very juicy(10 cents if you want extra juice!!!) with peppers if you want them. The building is ridiculously ugly so you can’t miss it. If you see an edifice with a bright yellow roof with yellow walls you know it’s a Zels. Stop in and give it a try.
