I love supporting local and finally found an amazing coffee shop that has excellent coffee and excellent service. For those mornings I am in a hurry they have a drive thru. The best part is when the owners know my drink and have it ready for me by the time I pay.

More of a drive thru kiosk than a true coffee shop. The coffee is quite good, maybe even excellent. They claim it is 100% Kona coffee, which is rare and wonderful indeed. Most Kona coffee is really only 20% Kona. I had a dark roast and it was strong without being very bitter, though I expect it was not roasted this morning, tasted a bit stale to my friend and me. But I would still qualify it as kind of coffee that makes you too picky for Starbucks if you eat it too often. Here’s what I really didn’t like: they totally lack the coffee shop basics. There is no place to sit, the decoration are tacky, and they didn’t have cream you can put in yourself so you have to take what the barista puts on for you, even the stir straw was too short and fell right into my cup.

This place is awesome. We visit almost daily and the employees are so nice and friendly in addition to making the best coffee around. The coconut latte and the macadamia nut breve are so delish. It’s never too busy and since the new manager took over the service has improved tremendously.

Very nice staff here. Will fix you whatever you want and it’s delicious! Love the fact that it’s a drive through and on these hot AZ days I can stay in my air conditioned car.

Kona 13 was delicious! I ordered a coconut mocha frozen drink and it was amazing. The service was speedy and the woman at the drive up window was very polite. She even had my «taste» my beverage before paying for it. The price was very fair for the size and quality of the drink. I will certainly be back. :-)

As I type this review, I’m drinking a vanilla macadamia nut roast iced coffee and OMG is it delicious!!! I found Kona 13 by accident a couple of weeks ago. It is visible from FLW but I never saw an ad/flyer announcing that it was opening — what a shame. I drove up for the first time and realized that it’s just a poster sized menu on the side of the building and the drive through window is just a sliding door — kind of nice that you can see everything going on in the coffee shop. On my first few trips, I ordered large iced coffee and it was superb, it has a deep smooth flavor. I drove up today and was offered a choice of roast so I’ll have to remember to ask going forward. Some of the coffee is cold brew which, in my opinion, is vastly superior to hot brewed coffee — another major plus for this spot. On my next trip I’ll have to go in and chat them up to find out which are cold brewed on a regular basis since they don’t have a website. For those not familiar with cold brewed coffee, google it before coming here so that you don’t get confused by how the coffee is prepared. They have some interesting coffee drinks here and they also serve teas and smoothies. Service is friendly and very laid back so come in a patient mood. FYI they offer a 32oz iced coffee, good for a days worth of errands!

Afternoon coffee — staff went to the refrigerator, pulled out some pre-made coffee from the morning, reheated it using the frothing wand, and presented it as hot coffee to go. She actually did this. She actually did this. She actually did this. Turns out it is not her idea but that of the owner. This speaks volumes about what sort of coffee shop this is. On top of that, there is virtually no seating here. Only one employee working, so things move slowly. And they didn’t have Kona coffee to drink on my visit, as it is only served occasionally — at Kona 13.

I am not one to be upset about errors and mistakes but I felt that the girl who work this morning was poorly trained, unprepared and was making the drinks completely wrong and as someone who worked in the coffee industry knowing that you don’t pour shots over ice and because it will make them turn bitter are just the basics. I feel as the company who manages this to leave someone unprepared regardless of Super Bowl Sunday is unprofessional. She was very nice and tried her best and I am not mad at her for that. I’ve been there. but your management and training needs work. I know not everyone walking in was a mangager at a coffee shop. I am trying not to come off like I only drink great coffee but the poor training there is not acceptable and it was not my first time experiencing that the baristas are Poorly trained and unprepared. I like the concept I like the location and I like the people that work there but you guys need to step it up with your products and training.

I drink a lot of coffee and appreciate a «local» non– chain experience. Kona 13 is near my house and just north of Shea on Frank Lloyd Wright in a little strip mall. I’d love to give them 5 stars– they seem to try really hard– they’re friendly and pretty quick although the drive through isn’t automated(neither is Dutch Bros, which is surprising) so you can’t give them your order in advance, but they hustle when they get it and often have someone outside to get your order in advance. Their coffee is KONA, certainly one of the best in the world, bit pricey. But they also have a wide selection of juices, smoothies and other specialties. They’re obviously not trying to be Starbucks which is good in a lot of ways. But I can’t give them 5 stars because I don’t understand their model. A «neighborhood» coffee shop is definitely missing in my part of town, but this is not a place to meet friends and hang out or get some work done and relax. They have a counter with a couple of seats. The first time I tried it, I went with my laptop and phone and thought I’d be able to sit at a table with a great cup of coffee, get to know the people working there and get a little work done in what looked like a hip little place. It IS a hip little place with a cute pseudo-Hawaiian theme. Alas, although it SEEMS like the space is big enough, there are NOTABLES, no wi-fi and apparently it’s not in the plan… much like Dutch Brothers. Also, since I’m now at the drive thru daily, I asked about a punch card or loyalty program and its a little convoluted– it’s some version of a prepaid card, which is ok, but I tend to lose punch cards. I haven’t lost my Dutch Bros punch card and got a nice $ 6.00 freebie, but without a phone app, which I don’t expect from a neighborhood joint, if I lose it, I’ve lost cash. So if you live in Fountain Hills or drive down Shea to the 101, it’s worth the detour and avoiding the crowds at Starbucks, but unfortunately, it’s not the neighborjood hang-out in the traditional local coffee shop sense that you might prefer, as I do, but the coffee and espresso drinks, while not cheap, are excellent and of you’re a drive thru type(which I often am) it’s a great little find. With a couple of tweaks, like fixing the punch card program, it could easily be a 5 star and if they decide to pursue being a neighborhood hang out by adding indoor and outdoor tables, wi-fi and a restroom, it could be better than 5 stars. I like it and recommend it as long as you know what youre getting and it’s the kind of place you’re looking for.

Kona is a great neighborhood coffee spot! From frozen flavored drinks to a black drip coffee, everything I’ve had here has been wonderful. It’s cheap and the employees will always take the time to help you decide on something if you’re unsure. My favorite is a Toddy(cold brewed coffee) that is vanilla macadamia flavor. Both drive through and walking in have been short wait times. I highly recommend this coffee shop.

I absolutely love this place and love how close it is to my house. They are so friendly and helpful when I have no idea what to order. The only thing I would change are prices, it’s a liiiiitle expensive but I go more often than most probably do ;)

My husband and I both love this place! The employees are so friendly and helpful. I love that they have Almond milk as a non-dairy option makes a great latte! The quality and service have been outstanding every visit. I would definitely recommend giving this local business a try.

I walked into this place this morning to try it out. I live directly on the other side of the street from it, so I thought that if it’s good, it would be extremely convenient to get coffee here. They have a drive-through window and there was one car at the window when I walked in. The sole employee working didn’t see me at first, which wasn’t his fault, but he was talking to the drive-through customer for quite awhile before he bothered to check if anyone was at the counter. Once he saw me, he said, «Good morning. I’ll be with you in just a minute.» He then proceeded to take about five more minutes bringing the other customer samples of what seemed like every drink on the menu and discussing the merits of each one. Given that they expect $ 3.25 for a small, plain cup of coffee, they should at least try to get you some in a reasonable amount of time. I simply walked out. As it is, I would — literally — not cross the street to go here.
