Outdoor country music, steaks, cowboy beans, crazy décor, rattlesnakes — as an Arizona native, these are all things that make me think of long-time Arizona staples that have been serving the Valley for years. Sadly, many of these restaurants that have ties to Arizona’s southwestern past have or are closing. Most recently are Monti’s, Bill Johnson’s Big Apple and Pinnacle Peak Patio. It has been quite some time since I have been here. I stopped in one last time to relive some of my childhood. This place was known to cut your tie off and hang them from the ceiling if you were wearing one. I see that the tradition still continues as the gentleman next to me lost his tie. They didn’t do much dusting as most of the ties were quite dusty, but then PPP still keeps straw on the floor(not sure how they pass health inspections). The food was good as I went out with a bang with the Half Rack Trio, cowboy bean and the cow pie for dessert. My beef was that the service was just ok. The server spent most of her time chatting with her boyfriend at the bar and massaging his neck. But then this reminds me of how these places have always been — service with the attitude that says ‘I’ll get to you when I’m ready’. I enjoyed listening to the music outside. I wished it were later in the evening as music under the stars would have been a nice way to end my last stop here. I will cherish my fond memories but I’m ready to move on to nicer restaurants with better service.

This place must have completely given up now that they are closing. The staff doesn’t smile or provide good service and the kitchen staff has become a fan of serving cold food. The salad tasted and smelled like it came from a bag. As well. No joke, I have been served better food at chain restaurants like Texas Roadhouse.

Doesn’t really matter what number of stars anyone gives this place since it won’t be there in 2 weeks and my review will disappear as well. We made the 20 minute drive to pay our respects and we saw alot of ties, a snake, some steaks and a property that was pretty big including gift shop and many rooms of empty space. The walls are covered with memories and selfies of the chef and whatever celebrities wandered through the doors. We never ate, but the microwave was in full use for one item and the steaks looked big enough for two. Simply had a beer and looked around at all the history and then left 30 minutes later, but the drive was worthy, as another western relic heads into the sunset.

Been to PPP a bunch of times. Overall the food is good and the staff is friendly. When we got inside the food came out fairly quick and was delicious.

The place is designed really well, but I feel the news of them closing soon has spread. Not only to the customers, but staff ect. Overall the meal wasn’t the best bang for my buck. Just a steak and beans. Nothing stood out as wonderful. The staff wasn’t lively, but was nice to have a conversation with. Kind of slow for only 15 people to be there. Music was great, but something was missing. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend, but would want to of I felt they were giving it a good shot!!! It really seemed like a has-been place, with a great idea, but missing any passion by anyone. Every one just seemed defeated.

As fun and good as I remembered! Been 25 years since I was there last. Use to be a staple trip when I was in Phoenix for work — my first job out of college. Went with my boys and friends on our last night in Carefree– 9 of us. The history of the PPP is awesome and the steaks were great! We loved the beans. I hade the rib /steak combo and it was really good. Donna took great care of us and was super attentive. Wish it would of been just a little warmer so we could of sat outside and enjoyed the music. The only thing missing was the view:(. Sad to say — this use to be a destination restaurant, but now homes block the view that was amazing. Sadly they will be closing at the end of 2016 so I am very glad I was able to experience one more time and share with my boys who celebrated their 17th birthdays. Thank you PPP

Maybe this was touristy, but we really enjoyed it. Great way to end our vacation. Service was excellent, and there was plenty of flavor in the Ribs and Steaks. My daughter ordered the Grilled Salmon, and thought it was excellent. If you want a fancy steak place, go down the street and pay 3x more. If you want a fun, quality family dinner, this is a great place.

Update: After 58 years, Pinnacle Peak Patio is closing its doors in December 2015, so get in one last hurrah! Whether it’s your first visit or your umpteenth, it’s well worth a drive out there. RECOMMENDATION: PPP has a «No Necktie Policy.» If you are seated with a necktie, the waiter cuts it off using scissors. So… stop by your nearest Goodwill before you go and buy their cheapest and ugliest tie for $ 1.99. If you go on a date, with a group, or with kids, it’ll make the experience even more fun.

Total kitsch tourist dive. If that’s what you’re looking for, and willing to pay through the nose for, then this is the place for you. Table service started well with water and glasses ready when we sat down. Also, our onion rings arrived swiftly — tasty — as did the salads; too much dressing. My strip steak was well cooked; but there was almost no flavor to the meat. When I cut into it, the plate quickly filled with juice; a sure sign the steak wasn’t rested after grilling. My dining partner’s porterhouse was cold inside. Not good. Beans accompanying the meal were bland. Wheat bread, though, was quite tasty. Table service slowed to a crawl after entrees arrived. We had to flag down our waitress to get the check. Add in the two tour busses that arrived as we finished our meal, and it all equals a place to leave to the folks looking to pay for atmosphere and hold the flavor.

Awesome place… my grandma worked here for 44 years along with my mom and Aunt. It will be sad to see this place go when they finally close the doors. So come check it out. Excellent food and service.

Food and service… mediocre at best. What makes this place cool is the atmosphere. Simple as that. It’s one of those kitschy places you should go to… once.

We had dinner here tonight. Last time there was in 1973. Eee gads 42 years ago. Surprised it still was standing and the ties still being cut off the unsuspecting men. LOL Anyway Meghan waited on us. She was excellent and totally one of the best servers we have ever had anywhere. She is full of enthusiasm and awesome. She gave a lot of credit to her managers What a gal!!! Food is still awesome… Steaks cooked to perfection. Wish we lived closer to try it again before 2016 arrives

The atmosphere is meant for jeans and, tennis, shoes. They’ll cut your tie for, fun if you walk, in there with one. Plastic plates. Plastic cups. Srve yourself water. Luke warm«hot water» Bad mixed Drinks. No gluten free drinks. Food was tasty but definitely back, yard bbq taste . Services was great but just not my kind of place.

This is one of those restaurants with so much history that you need to see it to believe it. The first time I went into this place, I was definitely awestruck. It’s huge, and there are thousands of ties hanging from the ceiling. It definitely has a lot of character. This is one of those places you come to for the atmosphere and scenery(Pinnacle Peak is gorgeous) as much as the food. The food is not fancy at all, but that’s part of the charm. You get good steaks with A1BBQ sauce. My husband loves the cowboy beans… possibly even more than the steak. Their homemade root beer is very good. Their onion rings with ranch dip are fabulous. They try really hard with the live entertainment, and it’s not bad. I’ve sat both indoors and out, and I would say that sitting outdoors is better, but it’s weather permitting, of course. The scenery is just magical. We’ve been here a few times and I am sure we will be back again.

Super casual and super expensive, by design, it’s a fun, touristy steak joint with cowgirl waitresses wearing leather cowboy boots and tool belts. You’ll plop down on your wooden bench at a picnic table covered with plastic checkerboard sheeting and get served water in plastic cups that look like they were salvaged from an old Pizza Hut. So, if you’re expecting fancy, go elsewhere. As far as the food, the steaks are cooked to order and tasted great; for the price, they should be. For anyone that is silly enough to order the chef to ruin a perfectly good steak by asking for it to be cooked«well-done,» you’ll get served what you deserve — an old boot. So, just order medium and enjoy it. Overall, I enjoyed this place. Just know up front that although it’s a casual dining joint, the pricing and steaks are uptown all the way.

If you are a tourist, this is a pretty cool place. They even have a terrarium with live snakes so you can see the rattlers up close Good food and atmosphere. Great concert venue and outdoor seating. However — if you are a local, or a cowboy, this place is straight up kitsch. A little campy and not the best steak in town — not bad, just good. My main beef is that they CHARGE50CENTS for BBQ sauce — and it is straight out of a bottle from the grocery store. If your Shi… ahem, stuff is good enough to charge for, then it had better be home made on site.

We had a very large group in town for a meeting. We selected Pinnacle Peak Patio for a night out. The place was perfect. We added in line dancing, a DJ, a story teller and photo booth. The food was surprisingly good. The group had a terrific time.

Yeehaw! I spent a week visiting relatives in Phoenix and most of the restaurants that we went to prior to Pinnacle Peak weren’t that great(See my, I Love This Bar, review) Being a foodie from Philly I know good food. First off, the elevation of this place is 2,800 ft up a mountain making the scenery spectacular. Upon entering you’ll be greeted by a friendly hostess. We went on a Saturday night so I thought we would have problems getting a table, no way, they were able to accommodate seven in less then five minutes. If you’ve read other reviews you know about the ties so I’ll leave that alone, but a lot of people forget to mention the awesome country band playing for their«captive» rattlesnake audience. Check out my photo. The food was the icing on the country cake. Appetizer medley of fried zucchini and mushrooms, stuffed potatoes & onion rings we all awesome. The dipping sauce they serve it with is what makes it. Full rack of Ribs were all fall off the bone delicious with a great sweet and spicy sauce mopped on top. The cowgirl steak was huge and cooked to perfection. I washed all that down with their in house wheat beer and it was the perfect end to a great vacation.

This place is AWESOME! My brother lives in Phoenix and on my visit to him he told me this place was a must to go to before I would have to return to New York. We went on my last night in Arizona and it felt pretty magical. The waitress sat us right next to the window and we had a gorgeous view of the sun setting and Pinnacle Peak. I love the chopped off ties and next visit will bring an old tie just so it can join the mass. When we got to the restaurant we were seated right away. I got up to use the bathroom, it was huge! Thank goodness a restaurant/bar finally got it right. Big bathrooms=no lines. On my way back I stumbled upon the restaurants rattlesnakes. Yes, live rattlesnakes. The baby, properly named Junior was all in a huss over me and coiled up and rattled that tail. What an awesome thing to behold. The mother could care less that I was there(and was probably sleeping). They look well cared for and it was a special treat to observe the beauty of wildlife. I ordered a prickly pear margarita(we don’t have those in NYXD) and I ordered the combo which was simply steak and chicken. My steak was cooked to perfection, medium rare. It cut like butter and wasn’t smothered with seasonings or sauce. The chicken was fantastic as well. I was thoroughly delighted with both of them. My margarita was delicious! I’ve only ever had cactus candy that my brother brought for me on his visits back home to NY and it tasted like that in margarita form. This would be my go-to drink if I lived out here. I miss it already. This is an awesome place, I cannot stress that enough. Good quality food, entertaining atmosphere, and really friendly staff.
