We went there on a Friday night for the happy hour sushi but got tappenyaki instead because we got there too early and didn’t want to wait. Also one friend never had tappenyaki before. What? :-0 food and drinks are good but over priced. It was worth it for the nice decorating and hot servers. Our server is very patient and did I mentioned he is hot? Overall it’s very nice place for a few friends get together. Don’t mind to spend a few bucks if you want to go.

Sapporo is Japanese for average. Sat at the bar last night and had dinner with a friend. His salad came 10 mins before mine and then my entrée came 10 mins before his. Food was average and not up to the hype or cost.

Food is good, and the atmosphere is nice. The experience is hit or miss depending on how busy they are. If you go on a weekend, prepared to be disappointed… We have waited as long as 25 minutes after being seated just to get our water on the weekend.

We went with other couples on Christmas Eve and it is was absolutely wonderful! Umberto was our Chef and was fantastic. Martine, at the bar, started our evening off = her made me a «martini tower» for my birthday and we just had a great time. Food and service was excellent — so happy, as our last experience wasn’t so great!

First time here for New Year’s Eve dinner. Sapporo’s very pretty on the outside with huge torches and glass all around. The inside was attractive as well. Were greeted by two beautiful hostesses who were super-friendly and seated us immediately as we had reservations(photo). Used the Unilocal check-in for the first time and got free edamame. Our server was Victoria and that was a victory for us as she turned out to be an amazing server. Ordered two cocktails – Cucumber, Blood Orange Martini and the Canadian«something» which was similar to a Bloody Mary. I really liked my martini and my companion was just OK with his drink. He likes it with more liquor and spicier. The edamame came with tons of salt over them(the large crystal salt like on pretzels) and had to change them up. Had the skewer appetizer which had two beef, two chicken and two shrimp. The shrimp came inside a batter like an egg roll. So what’s bad about batter? He he he. The chicken and beef had not been marinated before cooking so it was just a beef and chicken flavor without any backdrop of flavors. You know what I mean? Two sauces came with it; a wasabi horseradish and a peanut/tomatoey one. Both were good and the appetizers were quite generous– a nice munch with the drinks at happy hour prices. Hubby had the lamp chops and I had the Pad Tai shrimp. But I had to send back the Pad Tai because it was just too sweet for my palate and had chicken curry noodle dish instead. The lamb chops were picture worthy so why didn’t I take a photo? Nice miso glaze on them, dark on the outside as requested and pink on the inside. Yet, hubby said they lacked something. I don’t think the lamb chops were marinated either so that could be the glitch that would have made them perfect. A little garlic/ginger/soy sauce/sesame oil marinade goes a long way folks. I do it all the time. The Chicken curry noodles were a little salty so I could only eat half of it. It was just an ok dish. The star of the evening was Victoria(photo) who was probably one of the best servers we have ever had anywhere. Attentive, informative, keep waters topped, checked in to make sure everything was ok and just super personable. The environment was beautiful and that is always a good thing assuming the food meets up to the environment. You will not be wowed by the food here but you won’t be disappointed either. I might try the Tepannaki next time.

Don’t order the sushi! It was dry and definitely not fresh. The tuna and yellow tail were flavorless. The salmon skin for the roll was obviously prepared much earlier(or, worse yet, came out of a package). It most certainly wasn’t cooked to order. I’ve had better sushi from a grocery store. My favorite appetizer for sushi is roasted soshito peppers and I can’t remember the last sushi restaurant that I went to that didn’t have it. But Sapporo didn’t. Also, they didn’t offer a high-grade tuna(like the belly). They had just Maguro and it wasn’t very good at all. Lastly, what kind of Japanese restaurant doesn’t serve Asahi? I guess if you go to this restaurant for the Teppan, you’ll likely be satisfied. Just don’t get the sushi. It is definitely an afterthought and not worth the high prices that they charge.

Stopped in here late night on a Saturday 30 mins before close. Surprised it was happy hour which was great but the staff was ready to leave for the night so I felt they didn’t really want to wait on us. One waiter saved the day… I’m pretty sure he was a busboy too. Food was very good! Especially at happy hour prices.

Of the area sushi places, this would be second to Stingray. We did not sit at the Teppanyaki tables so I can’t comment on that. Happy hour menu is good with nice menu and drink choices. Overall, I would return. You should give it a try and see what you think.

Great Teppan. Make reservations, they fill up fast because they soo good. Had a great time for my daughters birthday and they put on a show. The food was very good, not drowned in soy sauce or teriyaki. Seasoned well rice, veggies and the salad you start with is very good. Happy hour is a great deal, not knowing it arrived just in time for the last few minutes Stella at $ 4 is not a bad deal.

Nice place with great food. Loved the Teppanyaki, the chef is skilled and entertaining. I am taking off 2 stars because they made us wait for a long time, even after having a reservation.

Love! Love! Love! Never a disappointment! Came here with my best friend and wife for my birthday. We started out with some tuna sashimi, sautéed roll, and the«friends with benefits» roll. The fish was super fresh(as always) and I love how creative their sushi chefs are. For dinner I had lobster, shrimp, and wagyu beef, all were to die for. My wife is obsessed with their Chilean Sea Bass(that’s actually Chilean) and my buddy loved his filet which was cooked to perfection. Our server was also outstanding, I wish that I could remember his name! Too many margs, I suppose. He made sure that we had our own teppan table and was really chill when it came to my buddy and I’s drunken shenanigans. I have been coming to this place for years and always try to come by for dinner when I’m in Scottsdale. I have yet to have a bad meal yet, can’t wait for my next trip!

Sapporo is Nothing like it used to be… The food is unbelievably good, the service is not. Maybe, if I go back ill sit in the dinning room with a server as the bar does not have a welcome atmosphere.

WORSTMEALEVER. After looking forward to this place and making a reservation 2hours into this thing I haven’t ate anything– and wasted my time. Having reservations at 9:30 since that was the only opening we didn’t get a table until 10:15. Everyone at our table left because the service was super slow. Us as a party of two and super hungry decided to stick it out– stupidest decision ever. The busboy apologized to us and said they would take care of some thing on our tab. No big deal– but we expected better service, presentation, and food. The miso soup was super salty. The chicken egg roll had a dressing that tasted like lemon with a mixture of lard. The miso cod fish started was so over cooked it was chewy and tasted really fishy. And then for our main entrée all we could taste was whatever the kerosene like fluid they used. They covered our bill. Thanks sopporo, but we will never come back or refer it.

This place was delicious! My girlfriend and I can for reverse happy hour on a Friday(9-close). All the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Our waitress(Rachel) was very friendly and took great care of us. We ordered a few rolls and the calamari and lobster dumplings. Some of the rolls were pretty small(Scottsdale roll which was pretty basic, and the spicy salmon was smaller than most). The calamari was the delicious and the lobster dumplings were okay. I bought the spiced cranberry Manhattan as well and that was good! I ordered a jack and coke next and that was also perfect. Great restaurant to go to for a nice date night! Very pleased and will be coming back soon.

The atmosphere is super posh and cool however my family was rubbed wrong from the start by the greeter/host. We came in for dinner around 9PM on Wednesday and as a standard at most restaurants when you walk in the host says«hi» and you say«hi» and they welcome you and ask you for your table accommodations. Not in this case! We said«hi» the host said«hi» and she looked at us dumbly and said«how can I help you?» I said, «we’re here for dinner» and she had a snooty tone and proceeded to seat us. The restaurant had one other party in our section however service was terribly slow and our waiter seemed more occupied with getting his side work done for the night, but wait, the restaurant didn’t close for another two hours so why were we not being attended to? Every time we needed something, we had to flag down our waiter. For two adults and a child, we paid $ 100. I would expect much better service than this and in the future, I would go during happy hour because I was still hungry after with the pricey food and drink costs, so perhaps I could catch a bargain at happy hour but other than that I wouldn’t go back.

THIS is the PLACE to GO if you are looking for a great Friday Night Happy Hour with the Girls! Get there early to find a nice table away from the bar and you are sure to start chatting with the people around you while noshing on ½-priced appetizers and cocktails until 7pm. I have tried the Sushi, Edamame, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Banana Spring Roll Dessert and all were delicious and filling. Try the Red Apple Sangria if you’re in the mood for a fruity wine that’s not TOO sweet. Crowd tends to be more on the ‘upscale’ end but not stuffy or pretentious. It clears out by 8:30pm so you’ll be home after having a fun, early evening. If you see me there with my friends, after reading this review, say ‘Hi’ and I might even let YOU buy ME a drink! HaHa!

Came here with a party of 3 with a reservation. I checked in when I got there and was forgotten about by the hostess who told me she would seat me in a second. I waited 5 minutes and finally asked if our table was ready and she told me she totally forgot and seated us. Not a big issue. Our waiter was interesting… I could tell he was trying to be funny but it was awkward and I tried to redeem the Unilocal free edamame deal and he didn’t know what it was and tried to take my phone to show his manager… thankfully before he did, he realized that he shouldn’t take my phone and just ended up asking his manager. Why doesn’t the staff know about deals the restaurant is offering? Pretty unprofessional… Anyway, my friends ordered the tootsie maki and a spicy salmon roll. I was ecstatic to see miso black cod on the happy hour menu for only $ 10! I’ve never seen such amazing fish like that for so cheap so I had to order it. Unfortunately, it was a piece of rubber. It came out with four pieces – two large and two small served with a flavorless sauce. I ate the two small pieces, really confused and asked my friends to try. They both agreed it was cooked to sh** and encouraged me to say something. I’ve had black cod at many different restaurants and it usually eats like butter. This was so weird. I said something to the waiter about it and he said thats the way the fish is and recommended the seabass which was $ 19. I told him that I’ve had black cod before and it’s never like this and that I think its very overcooked and he said that everytime it gets ordered it is sent back saying it is too hard. Well, then why don’t they fix it? Or take it off the menu? It pains me that such good quality fish is being wasted because the chef doesn’t know how to cook it! He told me he could have them redo it and cook it less and I agreed. The chef came out with my fish 10 minutes later, after my friends had finished eating their meals. It came out with a different sauce(See photo) and seemed like a smaller portion. Honestly, it was worse than the first time around. I can’t help but think he took the fish I sent back and put it on the grill for LONGER! It was only served with the two larger pieces(which I didn’t eat the first time around) not 4 pieces and was even more rubbery(if thats even imaginable!). At that point, I was done and told the waiter it was worse and I couldn’t eat it. He said the manager would come out. The manager did and it didn’t really help the situation. He offered to get me something else, which would have been nice if it was on the house, but it wasn’t so why would I want to risk my money for something that could be just as bad after my friends had finished eating. I declined and he left. I was hoping for a little better customer service. Overall, a shocking experience since I’ve been to sapporo before – I guess the sushi bar is just so much better than the kitchen food. I probably won’t be back since there are better happy hours out there.

Great ambiance and an even better happy hour! We sat out on the patio and enjoyed half off rolls and drink specials while all the time being entertained by the various people who surrounded us. From birthday parties to after work cocktails, this place was hopping! It’s also a bit of a «meat market» but that just made it that much more fun to see the shenanigans that we’re going on. It’s a bit of a chuckle to me that all the good places in this part of town are in strip malls, but once you realize that’s the way this part of town is, you embrace it and know your view from the patio may be a parking lot, no matter what they do to try to disguise it. All in all a good choice for sushi, drinks and some pretty fine people watching!
