Straight out of the 1980’s comes the New Penny. Located in the Providence section of Scranton, the New Penny offers a wide variety of shady characters, pool sharks, dart leaguers and big hair.
The place is laid out as one big room with a front door on Main St and a back door to an alley leading to a small private lot.
New Penny makes me think of tight jeans, mullets, IROC Camaros, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, jackhammers and hard hats. Don’t get me wrong, this is not all a bad thing. That’s the New Penny. I’ve never felt unsafe there and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
COLD COLD BEER. One big bonus is that they keep their beer at a temperature just above the freezing point. Delicious!
CHEAP. You don’t need a lot of money to enjoy yourself here.
