I had read about this place online and then scoped them out on Unilocal and was really excited to try them on a recent trip to Seattle. I checked their hours on Unilocal and confirmed on their website and showed up 45 minutes before closing… only to find a dark store and a locked door. The sign posting the store hours showed that they should still be open, and yet, the place was closed. Needless to say I was disappointed and annoyed at driving out of my way after doing my due diligence on their hours, particularly when they are located in the middle of nowhere ghettoville with very few parking options. All that effort, and I got nothing but frustration. And it wasn’t like there was a sign on the door informing of some huge emergency causing the early closing or anything either. If that had been the case, I’d still have been disappointed, but at least I would have empathized and acknowledged this as an exceptional situation. However, because I am unaware of any such emergency, I have to recommend against trying this place because this could be a regular occurrence, and really, my(and your) time, money, and stomach are valuable. *** RESPONSETOCOMMENT ***: I can guarantee you that this review is authentic, and my boyfriend as well as my Unilocal check-in can back me up on that. I could be wrong on the sign posting the hours. I thought there was one, but it’s possible that I was just looking at the website on my phone. Regardless, we were there 45 minutes before closing, and everything was completely dark, locked and deserted.

A long, long time ago; I can still remember how that music… …Used to make me smile… And I knew if I had my chance; to have some sweet and savory pies that would bust my pants; Then maybe, I’d be happy… for a while. But February made me shiver; A hot Peruvian pie with potatoes and peas would make me quiver. Good food on my place mat; I couldn’t think about the crust’s level of butter fat. I can’t remember if I cried; The day I had the Key Lime Pie; But my tastebuds buzzed from lime deep inside The day… .the music… died So hi, hi American Pie; Loved your amazing Raspberry custard pie, before I went to get waxed at the spa nearby; The good ol’ owner was sitting inside; Singing, this is a place for good piiiie… This is a good place for pie…

I just happened to be passing through Seattle today and remembered the hours of this place. +1PECANPIE! It was so good… and… had something different about it… more sugar perhaps? vanilla? I don’t know… but it was good. They seems to have two other sweet pies and a variety of savory ones in the case. +1 Cashier was friendly and asked me how the pie was and was talkative. Then we bonded when I told him about my favorite treat at home… PECANPIEBROWNIES! Intrigued right? I think so… +1 The rest of the menu looked tasty. Fries! Grilled Cheese! Pork Sandwiches. Yum. +.5 Small joint. Maybe room for 10 people. music was good though, the artwork was cool, lots to look at while eating. –1 Doesn’t show the days open on the door. I know that some don’t have an issue with this, and most likely check the net for hours of businesses… But some people don’t. The first time I came here I was just driving by and wanted a treat. The only thing on the door said,’ returning at 11′. 11 today? 11 tomorrow? Opens at 11 but not today at 11? I recommend a small sign on the door. It could just say CLOSEDONWEEKENDS. or CLOSEDONSATURDAYS. It would go a long way with this gal. And maybe others.

Stopped here after lunch in Georgetown to satisfy my sweet tooth. Friendly staff and a freaking amazing peanut butter pie. The slice was enormous, but I cleaned the plate. Great peanut butter flavor, without tasting fake like a Reese’s. I hope to be back to try some of their savory pies. This place is a great find. It’s very casual and unassuming.

Oxtail empanada! What what? Being the complete glutton that I am, with Unilocal as an excuse for my excesses, I finally stopped by American Pie and had a 3 course pie meal(about $ 13 for everything). (No! I didn’t eat all of this in front of anybody! I took it to-go like anyone knowingly overindulging would. Don’t be silly…) It all started with the oxtail empanada; this is a thing of beauty. Firstly, the bakers here have MASTERED crust, which is really what pie love is all about. The crust here is flaky but not crumbly, buttery and just the right thickness. The filling was rich, but not sickeningly so, and I was impressed at the consistency — not runny, so that it was a truly functional hand pie, yet with a gravy to keep the meat moist. I will go back just for that empanada… My main course was a beef, beer and mushroom pot pie. Again, an impeccable crust. Unfortunately, however, the filling was not seasoned. This is the only reason I didn’t give American 5 stars out of the gate. I honestly believe it was an oversight. Once I salted my pie, it was pretty good. Part of me suspects they did it on purpose so I would have to go back.(Am I paranoid?) Dessert was a sour cream apple custard. Sigh. Tartness perfectly offset by the sour cream; the custard not too thick so as not to overwhelm the apples — which were al dente and delicious, the rightful star of the pie. With flavors like chicken tikka, seco(Peruvian stew), a breakfast pie and sweet innovations like lemongrass cream with crystallized ginger, I am compelled to go again for multiple courses. Soon.
