The curtains are drawn… the doors are closed… and not a light in sight… could it be? could it be? Indeed, closed forever they be. So, don’t go here as they continue to be closed.

Not sure the the sexy blonde waitress works there anymore. None the less wouldn’t spend my money here if it were the last restaurant on earth and I was a relapsing alcoholic.

Reviewing for the late night club/bar scene. This place was in such a horrible location. The name of this place really fooled me where this would be located. Not the best neighborhood of QUEENANNE. ekkks The drinks were gross, wayy too much alcohol and not enough sweets to the mixture. Never again! The scarey part was, there was a guy who was pushing his gf around while dancing. omg… so not my scene. The bathroom was a mess. A hole in the wall place. sorry to say. I thought it would of been a better experience for me.

After several months of walking by this place cringing at the memory of our first two visits, we finally decided to try them again with the help of a coupon. one note of praise is that they only have a $ 35 food purchase minimum to use the $ 25 certificate(though 18% gratuity is automatically included). Their tapas pricing made it pretty easy. First, some continuing concerns: The music still sucks balls. Montell Jordan(This is how we do it), Mariah Carey(Emotions), 50 Cent(In Da Club), Usher(Yeah) and many other gems that range from 5 to 15 years out of date. The pimp table: Just because we’re the first(and possibly only) dinner patrons for the evening, please do not put us on display by seating us at the pimp table. We are not an exhibit at the zoo. Also, towards the last 15 minutes of dinner, the band for that night arrived and would have blocked us in with their equipment had we sat there. They increased the scope of their menu even MORE. Instead of just Southern comfort food juxtaposed with asian fusion, they added to that Continental cuisine and some Mexican. Jack of all trades, master of none? The atmosphere is still creepy. The floor tiling is uneven and cracked/broken all over. The bathroom is a rapist’s dream with dark red lighting. The tables are disproportionately small for the room and also their huge square plates. The silverware is still the vulgar mismatched pieces procured from garage sales. Being the only ones in the dining area, it was weird that the lights were severely dimmed down partway into dinner. Our server was quite sweet and nice, though she awkwardly asked if we were getting full/almost done merely 7 minutes after bringing out our food. Time warp? Overall, I was very pleased that the food wasn’t a total disaster like our other visits. They really deserve 2.5 star, objectively, but I rounded up for making huge relative improvements in the food… or maybe we had just learned to avoid the problematic items. On second thought, maybe I should dock a half star for the ubiquitous and useless garnish of mixed spring greens. Plates ordered Stuffed mushrooms $ 7 — general crowd pleaser. Well seasoned and well balanced. Generous serving. I enjoyed the slight spicy aftertaste. Ginger Thai Shrimp $ 7 — The most disappointing of the items ordered. They looked like little cocoons in size and color. I would have suspected that these were purchased as frozen apps but the taste of pickled ginger lead me to believe they were made in house. They should have sold this at the lowest price point due to the portion and quality. BBQ ribs $ 8 — I can see how these could win awards. They were pleasantly smoky and had a definite aged/cured flavor reminiscent of Oh Boy Oberto pepperoni. Yum. The BBQ sauce was slathered on the non-meat side of the rib(which always baffles me) and was sharp and pungent with flavor. The danger of being overwhelmed by it was always present. Caprese salad $ 6 — I’m always reticent to order this at restaurants since I can make it at home with similar results. I was very pleased with the waitress’ recommendation to order this. The mozzarella was firm yet creamy with a robust flavor. The tomatoes and shredded basil were well complemented with the simple yet highly effective seasoning of salt, pepper, and olive oil. Simplicity at its best. Michoacan Tacos $ 8 — This is not a Mexican place, but the authentic-style tacos were satisfying and tasty. Fairly good portions. Pinot Noir $ 8/glass — A day old and further ruined by their choice of fat-rimmed wine glasses. I don’t want to drink wine out of novelty glassware typically purchased by college students trying to be «classy». In conclusion, we felt we got our money’s worth, just barely. If you think of it as upscale bar food, then you’ll be pleased and satisfied. We probably won’t eat here often(if at all again) but at least we won’t get douche chills walking past it. They are no longer a blight on the neighborhood.

We were looking for a small, early dinner before the opera, stumbled upon this place, noticed it was happy hour time and decided to give it a try. The décor is slightly weird for a restaurant but those platinum LPs around the walls are pretty cool. The place wasn’t very busy at 4:30 on a Wednesday and unlike some other reviewers, we got good service(from the combined bar tender and waiter). The prices on the happy hour menu cannot be beat(we dined on four dishes for a total of $ 14) and the food tasted all right. I’m no Lumpia expert but it tasted fine to me. The wife wasn’t so keen on the little soft tacos and there was some chewy piece of meat but I thought they tasted ok. The pesto sauce with the clams wasn’t brilliant but it tasted ok as well. The wife liked her calamari but I wasn’t in the mood for deep fried food so I passed. How can you argue with $ 3 decent beer(Manny’s on tap) and $ 5 martinis? Not at all. So the price during happy hour is rock bottom, the food and drinks were OK and they definitely deserve the three stars for our dinner.

GAH! This restaurant frustrates the hell out of me! Personally I LOVE Ascada’s food. Everything I’ve ever tried has been delicious… if only food could speak for itself. Sadly it cannot. I’ve only sat down and eaten at the place once. And again, the food was great. The service… irritating at best. We were the only ones in the place(should that have been a sign?) and while I realize the staff must’ve been bored, you think they wouldn’t hover. I’ll let you know what I want attention. And while I love chatting with servers and owners, I also want to chat with the people I came to the restaurant with INPRIVATE! So, I never went back to sit in. But damn, I can smell their food right now. Since I work a few blocks away I figured I’d call in for take out. First time, it wasnt a problem. It goes downhill from there. Except for that one time, every time I call to put in an order for take out the phone just rings and rings and rings! No one EVER picks up. I had to double check that I was calling in business hours. I was. Okay, I’ll call 20 minutes later. Same deal, no one answers the phone, only this time it goes to the mailbox to tell me its full and cannot accept new messages. …Really? Can that happen with a restaurant? Apparently so. Great food Ascada, work on everything else.

Oh wow! I didn’t think it was possible for a restaurant to miss on every single level. Came in hoping to get filled up on some«Tapas» What I experienced was probably the single handed worst dining of my life. Service: Terrible, our«server» was a server, or the bartender, but either way, she seemed way more interested chatting with her friends at the bar than taking care of us. Drinks: Lets just say the Pinot is served warm here. They were out of our first request. As well, make sure you articulate your drink order very well or they will get it wrong. Didn’t think it was possible to F up a glass of wine 3 ways… Food: Almost inedible, the Nicoise salad($ 9) was a bed of greens tossed with a store bought dressing, and topped with, get this, half a can of chicken of the sea tuna, not the albacore style either; but the $ 0.30 per can type. Pretty sure the chicken skewers(3 skewers for $ 7) were the Costco variety served with a side of hidden valley. Last, but of course not least, the Jalapeño smoked bacon wrapped prawns served with mozzarella($ 9) consisted of what have to had been previously frozen Costco shrimp wrapped in a piece of Oscar Meyer bacon and dropped in a deep fryer, served with a side of McDonald’s sweet and sour sauce. No mozzarella or jalapeño to be seen or tasted. Ambiance: Noisy, tacky, not as advertised(band was replaced with a DJ)… Could go on all night about this place, but the bottom line is I wasted $ 50 on three plates of food we didnt eat and two warm glasses of white wine(the wrong wine at that) When we brought all this to the attention of our server, she looked like a deer in headlights, advised us she was«sorry we were having a bad evening»… what a joke. With the abundance of good food and tapas in this city don’t waste your time here.

A solid 4 stars for the happy hour scene, which is 7 nights a week. The prices are pretty stellar, and between my 2 companions and I, we managed to try half the things on the menu(at that price, why not?). My favorites out of the group were probably the tacos, the lumpia, and the thai shrimp(which were basically like shorter lumpia with shrimp and a nice jalapeño flavor). The complimentary cornbread was pretty yummy too. I’m not a big drinker, so I can’t really speak to the quality there… I just sipped on my house gin martini throughout the night. At $ 5, why not… it was a good value. I’m not sure this place would get 4 stars from me if it weren’t happy hour. But then, the happy hour menu is lacking mac & cheese, which did sound very tasty. My one regret is that I forgot to ask for it while I was there.

(this review is for the late night/bar scene, not the restaurant) This place has a lot of potential as a fun ‘alternate’ bar to go to when you don’t feel like hanging out with a bunch of douchebags(see: Ozzie’s, Peso’s). Unfortunately, the world’s slowest credit card machine ruins it all. The good? The semi-cheesy three piece cover band that was playing on Friday night was fantastic. Brown Eyed Girl, Eight Days a Week, Bohemian Rhapsody(surprisingly good), etc. The bad? Trying to close my tab. Seriously, this soured my experience enough to lower my rating. I know that trying to close a tab when the bar is starting to shoo people out is usually an exercise in futility, but at the same time with a bit of patience it can be tolerated. When I first tried to close my tab, it took me 5 minutes to get the bartender’s attention, as even though it was closing time, he was still trying to run around and pour drinks for people. Then, after telling him I was ready to close out, he nodded and went back to whatever it was he was doing. Okay, maybe he told one of the wait staff to close my tab as he continued to make drinks, no problem. A few minutes later he finally told me that I had to go to the other end of the bar, by the wait staff, to close my tab out. … fine. There was a line of about 5 people trying to close their tabs, and I assumed this would be a fairly quick operation. It shouldn’t be that bad, right? Slide the card, print out a receipt, …the whole line should be gone in 2 minutes. Unfortunately this bar has just one credit card machine, and it is most definitely The World’s Slowest Credit Card Processing Machine. Yes, somehow this bar/restaurant has one of those machines that literally takes 30 – 45 seconds to print out a receipt. I don’t know why this was so annoying to me, but I guess at closing time I just want to get the hell out of the bar. In addition, the waitresses closing out tabs didn’t seem to look at the line and try and get people in order — they were just running cards willy-nilly and then just looking around hoping that the person was there to sign. Oh, and we started off drinking Seven and Seven’s, but eventually the bartender told us he «ran out» of Seagram’s. I’m not too picky about my drinks, so I had Crown instead, but it was still a *wha* moment. So in conclusion, yes, it was a fun bar, the band was fun and the crowd was less douchebaggy. Hell, even Shawn Kemp showed up around 12:30am. Had to do a triple take when that happened. But come on… get a real credit card machine so your patrons don’t have to wait 5 – 10 minutes to close a tab. Even crowded bars like the Red Door don’t take that long to close people out.

We are chilling at ascada as I type this review in a happy drunken stupor. We came to celebrate a birthday and it’s a good choice for happy hour. And they play the best music I have ever heard in a bar. You can’t go wrong with earth, wind and fire. The food is good. The happy hour menu is fire and we had a great waitress. She was working solo and I loved the attention she gave us. A lot of people had bad things to say about this place but I’m a fan.

(Mysterious guy with British accent — «MGBA»): «Baaatenda, might I request an application?» Bartender: «An application for what?» MGBA: «For employment?» Bartender: «Sure, would you like an application?»(huh?) MGBA:(Long awkward silence while looking at the Jimi Hendrix gold and platinum records hung around the walls). «Hmmmm… I see the proprietah worked in the music buizness yeahs ago. INNNNteresting…»(again, huh?) Bartender: «Or would you like a business card?» MGBA: «Yes, yes, a bizness card will do.»(Takes card and hastily walks out.) Odd, huh? Well that did happen while I was there, and something about this place IS odd. But I like it. The space is nice, and classy. One side serves as a bar/lounge, with the requisite long«make-out» couch toward the back. But the other half serves as a legitimate restaurant, as if you get TWO places for one. The happy hour(4−7pm, I think) deals are exceptional, offering a wide range of small plates ranging in price from $ 1.95 to $ 4.95. Wait. Is this déjà vu? I could have swore that McCormick and Schmicks offers the very same price range for eclectic small plates. Hmmmm, I wonder where Ascada got THAT idea? Well, the happy hour menu is completely different, and there are more offerings than M&S has. I ordered the bbq ribs, which were tiny little ribs with house-made bbq dipping sauce. These little ribs leave one bony end that’s impossible to eat the meat off of because of the cut, but there was still a few bites that were very good, and for $ 1.95, you can’t really go wrong. The other $ 1.95HH dish I had was the 3 tacos — taco stand style — very good and filling. Even though it was happy hour, I also«splurged» on another dish that looked great — the homemade Mac & Cheese, for $ 8, and added crab for another $ 5 — pricey addition compared to the mac and cheese, but price-wise still about right for crab mac and cheese around town. Besides, I’m a sucker for crab. This Mac & Cheese is some of the best I’ve ever had(even after several attempts at cooking my own, two with disastrous results, but one a success!). It’s like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow — really great mix of cheeses with the perfect balance of noodles, and not gritty at all — just excellent. My only complaint is that they should add the crab on top, instead of mixing it into the dish for me – I’d like to do that myself next time, so I’ll be sure to special request that. The bartendress was very nice and polite, but a little bit odd, in a good way. The food took too long to arrive, with about a 20 minute wait, and they could have delivered the small plates first, then the mac and cheese which might take longer?), but instead delivered all around the same time. So I had an awkward three plates in front of me at one point. There were only a handful of people there, which is surprising for Queen Anne, and with such a great happy hour menu. I also ordered a Sapphire tonic, which was very strong and good. The menu(both lunch and dinner) has a dizzying array of food — this could be a one-stop place to take friends who aren’t quite sure what they want — Ascada will undoubtedly have something that looks good. The three-plates-at-once service was the only real drawback, along with the lack of people in there, but I think it still deserves three to four stars, so I’ll err on the side of four. I’ll definitely go back with friends next time, when I feel like hangin’ in a quirky place with plenty of room to relax, and sample more of that killer menu. PROS: Killer menu options, all over the place. Good food. Nice space, kinda quirky, with an excellent McCormick and Schmick’s-ish happy hour. Check out the Hendricks platinum record collection! CONS: Quirky(good for some, maybe not for others). Kinda empty there.

We popped in around 5 or so and the place was empty, which was actually kinda nice, we had the place to ourselves. If this place had it’s shit together, it would probably get a lot higher stars and better reviews. The bartender was great, except that he was out of the majority of the wine we wanted from the wine menu. He was also out of several of the menu selections. With that being said, once we settled down with a 4th choice Pinot Noir and a couple of pints things started getting better… minus the annoying person to my left who came with my party… but that is another story and isn’t Ascada’s fault… just his parents fault. I ordered the prawns in tomato, garlic, jalapeño cocktail. Very good price… $ 7 for A LOT of prawns. We also ordered the bacon wrapped prawns with mozzarella($ 9) which were very good, but I didn’t taste any mozzarella. and the macaroni and cheese($ 8), which is TODIEFOR. YUMMY. There were also other choices such as Cheeseburger($ 10) and crab cakes($ 16) that looked very appetizing… Again, if they would get on the ball and have the necessary ingredients to run a restaurant this place would be great! Intimate ambiance, nice staff… I’ll be back.

I had to give this place 5 stars for three reasons: 1. My waitress was cute, nice, attentive, and brought me beer… true wife material. 2. I tried a beer I’ve never had before called Manny’s(sp?), and it was delicious. 3. I got to meet the Reign Man himself, SHAWNKEMP, there! I can’t say anything about the food, because I didn’t try any, but I thought the place had a really relaxed vibe to it. It wasn’t too loud or crowded, and seemed like a cool place to hang out on a Saturday night. Any bar that has overly nice, attractive servers, delicious beer, and basketball gods is a 5 in my book. Don’t be turned off by the 1 star reviews, this place is great.

Let me start off by saying I hate being negative, but I can not recommend this place to anyone. I really didn’t find anything I could say that would be positive so I will just point out a few things about my visit. Décor: When you first walk in it looks like someones basement, like they tried to make it a cool lounge area, but as a «hip» bar this look just doesn’t work. The drinks: I ordered a Blue Cheese Martini, they didn’t have that so I opted for a Dirty Martini, it just didn’t taste right, plus I got baby olives, not the big ones you expect(Olives are my favorite part of martinis). The staff: They just didn’t have any personality and often looked lost, I took me a while to get their attention. Had I not be there for a happy hour event, I would have looked inside and kept going. Oh wait, I do have something positive to say, the happy hour pricing was not that bad, but I think you would truly get what you paid for, so I guess it wouldn’t be such a bargain after all. I visited the old place in Bellevue and I was an ok spot, this is definitely not the same.

I went to this place one evening to celebrate my sorority sister’s birthday with a group of people and everything started out well. The music was a bit too loud for me, but maybe that’s because I was seated less than 5 feet away from where they were performing. I didn’t order anything to eat(just a Sprite), but it took about 2 tries for them to get the sorority sister sitting next to me’s order right(and I still don’t think they got it 100% of the way she wanted it, but she was so hungry she said forget it). She ordered the crab cakes(I believe that’s what they’re called) and they were covered in some sort of sauce that she didn’t want. The food didn’t look too appetizing overall, so I’m glad I saved my $$$. I’m a picky eater so you have to take what I say with a grain of salt. If there isn’t battered halibut on the menu, it’s usually not worth my time. Aside from ordering some bland chicken that I could cook at home for much cheaper, there was nothing that looked good on the menu to me. At least the music was halfway decent.

Someone will have to drag me back into this place because the last time I was here it was the most god-awful experience that I had. 1. The bartender didn’t have any alcohol on hand to make several of the drinks we requested, he actually started suggesting drinks that contained what little alcohol he had in his bar. 2. My bff ordered coffee and had to wait 10 minutes for the creamer– our server had to fetch some from one of the neighboring grocery stores. 3. I think I might need a hearing aid because after 1 hour of listening to music that was a million decibels too high– you start mistaking the music for a really loud high pitched screeching sound. 4. Their menu had more typos than entrée selections. Never again.

I don’t know what warranted the negative reviews for this restaurant. I made it to Ascada Bistro on a bit of a whim. Went to a Sonics game with my brother and his girlfriend on a Friday(11⁄23), and to avoid traffic we tried looking for a hot spot to wait out the post-game hub bub. As we were walking around Queen Anne I noticed a band in the window of a small establishment. So, I suggested we head over and check it out(we had tried Peso’s and it was a little«too much»). We were very pleasantly surprised. Had a round of drinks and just chilled. Me and my bro had a couple rounds of Glenlivet & his girlfriend had a Cosmo(it was«eh»). Initially sat in the bar, but the band was just too good, and I got us a table in the restaurant so we could see the band. While there we ordered an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms — THEYWEREAWESOME! As for the band, they are a house band which just started and play on Fridays. They consist of a vocalist on a keyboard, a woman on sax, and a drummer. They were GREAT! They had a neo-soul sound and played a wide range of songs(D’Angelo, Kool & the Gang, Musiq Soulchild, etc.). Anyway, Ascada Bistro saved us: freakin’ awesome band, yummy food, and tasty libations. They should get 10Stars! What to do… It’s Friday night, guess we’ll be going to Ascada — later! *************Went again on 12/21/07*********** The House Band(which is labeled as Neosoul/R&B) was their again. Tonight the line up was tweaked a little. Singer/keyboard & drummer were the same, but a bassist was there(instead of female saxist). They played some Maxwell, Jill Scott, and Marvin Gaye when we were there — so, yeah. Definitely come here for the Friday House Band. Ordered a couple of drinks, appetizers(stuffed mushrooms & chicken on skewers), and a crème brûlée. The service was a bit slow, so beware. The mushrooms were good, the chicken was«eh». The Crème Brulee was a big serving. It was alright. Main thing: go on Friday for the BAND!

Brand new restaurant on Queen Anne(check out the website!) and all I have to say is «eh». This«eh» comes even after Melissa and I were served by the owner, a nice man who claims to be the ex-president of Jimi Hendrix’s record label and has worked with *name drop* *name drop* etc. Parking sucks – it’s directly on Queen Anne next to Peso’s. I was greeted in a lovely way. The décor is OKAY… black and red and dim. Is it just me, or is this the décor du jour?! It seems every restaurant I go to is a combo of red, black and white. We ordered bacon-wrapped prawns, chicken caesar salad, and the«famous» mac & cheese to share. The dishes we REALLY wanted to try were $ 28-$ 30 and therefore just too much that night. Salad isn’t anything to write home about… could’ve used more dressing and STUFF. It had tomatoes in it, which it failed to mention in the menu… and I HATE that. Because oh yeah, I hate tomatoes. Mac and cheese made me feel kinda sick. Basically the service was good except for Melissa wasn’t asked if she wanted another glass of wine, and the bill took forever coming. Probably not going here again. Although, something cool: you can enter your name in a drawing for Grammy Award tickets that the owner gives away. I have a feeling it’d be a million-and-one chance of winning, though. I saw that bucket!

What a disappointment ! ! This looked like it was a cool looking, but unfinished place when we walked in. However, all the way around it was just sketchy. Looked like it was a cash flow for some off the wall mafia — not sure what kind. Cash only, limited drinks, and a shady staff. Went with a bunch of friends, about 9 of us. No one was charged the same amount for the same drinks twice, drinks were added to our bill that we didn’t order, drinks on our bill were givin amiguous names — special martini — and the like. Way over priced for the quality of cocktail 1980’s Nagel-esque atmosphere — which actually could be cool — not here. We went to see a cool performer — Dan Purser — we have seen at Nectar Lounge(very cool place btw) and other live music venues. Had Dan not been playing there, we wouldn’t have gone. Now, we will never go back, to this location or the other one. Let’s just say I am glad that we were able to leave with everyone we came with and didn’t loose anyone to a white slavery ambush. Sketchy, just isnt enough. In an amazing city like ours, there are just too may other places to go! Choose one of THEM and have a great time!
