The place was packed, and we still got seated in 15 minutes. We ordered the Love Boat. Every piece of fish was delicious!!! Love this place. And the people are wonderful. The service was great.

We had considered trying this place for months, and I cannot emphasis enough that I regret it. From start to finish, our service was horrible. We were shown a seat at the bar, which was fine. However, when we ordered non-alcoholic drinks, staff at the bar did not relay this information to whomever was supposed to be taking our drink order. It took thirty minutes to get water, and the staff(who seemed like the manager) made a passive aggressive comment about«how nice» it was that we did not say anything about not receiving drinks. To exacerbate this occurrence, no one came by to ask about how we were doing, and we had to obtain our own check. Unless management tremendously improves, I will not consider returning. As a side note, the tuna was not fresh. However, this was the least of our concerns with the horrific service.

Enjoyed a nice lunch with multiple appetizers. Loved the tempura and chicken satay… Miso soup was also quite good. Can’t believe I’ve been in West Seattle all these years and this was my first experience. Can’t wait to go back.

Eww! Really save your money and go to QFC or Safeway for this quality of Susi. Really, you get better at the grocery store. Big mistake ans a waiste of your hard earned money. Don’t waiste your time and money here.

Very nicely priced and casual. Rolls are solid and well prepared. The ahi sashimi on occasion can be variable in texture. The teriyaki chicken is great and served on a fresh bed of hot vegetables. Miso soup is good, my daughter typically will have 2 bowls(she’s 4). Appetizers are nice.

This place is fantastic. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the portions are huge. Everyone who works here is very kind and personable, and they not only remember me, but my friends, and even my family whenever they visit from the east coast. I strongly recommend the volcano roll and the dragon roll if I HAD to pick, but you can’t go wrong with their menu.

Impersonal staff, out of multiple items, brought wrong items to table, bland nigiri, and finally were charged for items that we ordered but they were out of.

We went on a busy Saturday night and got a seat relatively fast. Sushi was good, and though the staff were beyond busy they were very nice to us(if not entirely prompt in checking in). Would definitely go again. I would say this is a perfectly fine place — not particularly memorable or WOW — but love having it as a reasonably good local sushi option.

This place is great! Go about once a week at this point. All the people there are super friendly and the price is very fair on everything. Highly reccommend!

My husband and I have been coming here for years now, and I’m ashamed that this is my first review of it. I should preface that when we dine in, we exclusively sit at the sushi bar. I really like Azuma for a number of reasons. The first being that the sushi chef(Harry!) is more than accommodating and as friendly as they come if you take the time to get to know him. I’ve seen him come out from behind the bar to talk to families and frequent diners before, and just the other week when we were in he asked me how school was going. He also always has amazing recommendations for us(sake, beer, and sashimi usually). Second, the staff is always working hard and communicating clearly with each other to ensure prompt service and quality food/drink. These guys can get slammed on the weekends, yet they always manage to get orders out in a timely manner. Third, the quality of the fish is fantastic, and Harry is always willing to explain the cuts, their origins, and the tradition behind the sushi/sashimi/nigiri we order. If you go frequently enough, you’ll get some big cuts of sashimi(the yellow tail and the mackrel are my JAM), and if you’re friendly enough, you may get some complimentary goodies. Azuma is great for an impromptu date-night, or a solo dinner. The atmosphere is casual, so if you’re looking to get all fancy-pants you may feel a little overdressed if you choose to dine there. You can’t argue with consistency and quality. I can’t speak for the rest of the menu(I ordered Udon noodles once, after a few beers, and they were tasty, but that’s about as far as we’ve branched), but the sushi/sashimi/nigiri is worth the visit… as is the gold-flaked sake.

Azuma sushi is AWESOME!!! All the food is beautiful and fresh– no fishy taste. They have an awesome kids menu too. The staff is very nice and friendly and very helpful and attentive. This will be our new favorite place!

Not very friendly, sushi ok, but it came out quick. Go here for your basic sushi… cheaper than Whole Foods.

Excellent every time! I highly recommend sitting at the bar if available. Service can be slow in the general deating if it’s busy but it’s well worth the wait.

Very very very very good! After calling Mashiko & being told the wait was 2 hours, we came here based on a recommendation from a neighborhood local. We truly enjoyed this place! There was a large variety on the menu to choose from, everything was very fresh and the price was right. There was no wait once we got there and the staff was very friendly. We ordered the love boat for two which came with one dynamite roll, sashimi, Nigri, tempura and miso soup. Our eyes must of been bigger than our stomachs because we ordered an additional roll(volcano roll) and we had way too much food(we had to take home leftovers). But everything was very tasty! Highly recommend this spot!

The sushi is top notch and the staff is friendly. They do an excellent job. Hands down the best sushi spot in West Seattle and one of the best in town.

This place was ok but I have definitely had better. We ordered the veggie Gyoza which was really yummy, but the seafood ramen was not good in my opinion. The noodles were not cooked and the broth was tasteless and bland. My boyfriend said he enjoyed his sashimi so maybe next time I will just stick to that instead. This place was also a bit on the dirty side– lots of bugs in the window and dusty plants and figures. Also, I was still working on my ramen broth and the waitress came and took it away without asking– huge no-no! :(There are a lot more options I’d choose first before coming here again.

So sad to see you go… Me and my wife have LOVED coming here for years, so much in fact that it is about the only place we go out to eat in west seattle. We both had worked in the restaurant industry for many years and always had great, friendly service at Azumas and we tipped accordingly. We already know what we want to order and don’t ask for much: maybe one water refill during our meal(if empty). We are the definition of a «low maintenance» table. We always left feeling happy about spending our money there. Unfortunately the last few times we have been there from the start we haven’t felt welcome. The server doesn’t smile or introduce herself she just asks if we are ready to order, writes it down, then leaves. She usually forgets our tea. When we ask for it she says«oh yeah» and walks away no «sorry», no manners at all really. Someone else usually runs our food to the table and leaves without asking if we need anything else. The food is still great. Sometime during our meal one of us usually runs out of water. No one comes to refill it. Our empty plates start to stack up. No one comes to clear them. We finish our meal. No one comes with the bill. We wait patently but after a while we start looking to see where our server is. She is bussing the table behind us. She sees us looking over but doesn’t acknowledge us. We wait 5 more minutes. Finally she brings us the bill. And for the first time in history I tip 15%. Should have been 2%. When we left the server did thank us but as we walked by the kitchen and both thanked the other server that ran our food she ignored us completely. She had to have heard us. We left unhappy. Don’t think we will come back or tell our friends and family how«great» this place is anymore.

There are some meals that you remember for the rest of my life. You don’t usually realize it in the moment, but years later you look back on them and think«that was just perfect.» These meals don’t tend to be very fancy or expensive. It is simple food, elegantly prepared, at the right time and place. I had one of those meals last night, at least I am pretty sure that I did. I am a regular customer at Azuma — I pick up take-out orders once a week on average — and I count on them for good, consistent sushi and other Japanese mainstays. It is much, much better than any supermarket sushi and on par with Mashiko for some items. So back to my AMAZING meal. Azuma is almost always quite good but last night was flawless. Every roll perfect, all fish fresh, rice flawless, salmon teriyaki seared to perfection. I sat with my wife watching House of Cards and realized that I am going to remember this moment, this meal, possibly for the rest of my life. So here is my secret formula for perfection at Azuma: Get teriyaki + whatever else you like, rolls, sushi, tempura, as your mood dictates. The teriyaki forms a great foundation, is generous in portion, and comes with a delicious salad(always with one little sprig of broccoli, like a treat!) and miso soup. Whatever you get, try to order something special. Get salmon teriyaki instead of chicken or, if you get rolls, get one of the chef special rolls. It might be just in my own head, but it seems like the sushi chef really appreciates when you get more than just the cheap basics, and gives the whole order a little special attention. On the note of the chef, make sure that when you pick up your order you don’t just thank the cashier. Catch the chef’s eye(unless he is crazy busy), nod, and say thank-you to him. He is a consummate professional, very serious and visibly passionate about what he does. Again, this might be in my head, but I always think of it as my way of making up for the fact that I don’t take the time to sit at his bar and really respect the terrific food he prepares every night. Azuma, thank you for the memories!

Had lunch with my son & was brought out two soups one with a spoon one without? Huh? Told her I needed another & it took FOREVER! Then lunch came, told her my son will need a fork(he’s still learning with chopsticks) it never came, so I sent him up to ask her for one since by now his food was getting cold. She never apologized for forgetting in the first place. Then of course had to go up and ask for a to go box & the check. Terrible service. If you like waiting & waiting for things then this is the place for you! Very frustrating :( I will not recommend or return.
